Another reviewer showed the frequency response of the Devialet, and it started dropping off at 7kHz, so that may explain why the treble is so muted but then maybe the high-frequency driver isn't pointed at the microphone.

Listening on the Beoplay EX, Mania sounds better for EDM, sound is more whole and enveloping

Try to arrange a comparison with the h/k citation 200. Seems to be a logical competitor.

I’ve gotten the speaker and I’m going back and forth in my head. So they both sound amazing, the Devialet has a 3D sound to it it’s quite amazing. The bass is very good for the size, I love bass so I don’t get enough out of it for me but it’s so small how can I hate it. But it didn’t blow me away, the app is not nearly as good as the Beolit 20 and the EQ is garbage. Yes the Beolit only has a wheel for the EQ but that EQ is honestly very very good. The Beolit has a softer sound. I like the Devialet more but $200+ more? Idk I haven’t tested every speaker ever but I think there may be Better options.

Thanks Yoshi, and a most interesting report. The Mania obviously has better bass, but the Beolit holds its ground in comparison. The Mania sounds like it has an unusual and enticing sound stage which needs to be experienced in person; similarly it's one thing I really like about the Beolit 20 - its sound stage is quite wide and bright for a mono speaker. I had look at a few other bluetooth speakers around the Beolit price range, the HK Citation 200, Sonos Move, several Bose units. I could have seen more brands if I ventured further, but all in all the Beolit 20 seemed the "best sounding for size/portability" and the price I was willing to go up to. I saw the B&O Level and the Devialets, but I did not bother to audition them cos' the price hike was way beyond my budget. Alternatively, I know in my price range I could have gotten a great pair of (say) active Edifier bluetooth stereo bookshelf speakers which would blow the socks of the Beolit 20, but the practicality of carting around a pair of bookshelf speakers is a killer issue for me.

The only issue with this review is the proper point of listening to these. You want to listen to them in a room. Not right in its face. i want to hear how these fill the room.
The Beolit is a far better product. I’ve just tested both in the Middle East. I wanted to like the Mania so much, but the Beolit has it beat in every department sonic wise. And it can charge your phone.

1) Mania costs much less 2) Is pretty much half the size 3) Much better battery life on Mania 4) What's it even gonna charge wirelessly at a mere 5W? 5) It can go down to 30Hz compared to 37Hz on the 18 6) Has Bluetooth 5.0 compared to 4.2 on the Beo 7) Has much more precise and tighter bass thanks to the sealed design whereas the 18 has 4 passive radiators which cannot offer that precise bass. 8) And Mania supports Spotify connect & Airplay whereas the 18 is a bluetooth only speaker 9) In my opinion the mania had much mids and a more even distribution of sound around it

@@ashyouknow7420 The Mania costs about $150 more, and in the real world clearly didn’t sound as good with many different types of music. It doesn’t do wireless charging without a separate device too. I found the treble quite weak and with little in the mid section. It had plenty of bass but it wasn’t as well controlled as it was on the Beolit 20. I went to buy one as I think it looks great, and it sounds great too. But it was clearly bettered by the Beolit. Just my opinion.

Hi StoryTripper and Chris, many thanks for this useful test and your comments. I’m using my Beolit 20 extensively for dancing activities; I find it be a superb looking and sounding speaker for its size and portability. I was therefore intrigued by the launch of the Mania, which similarly looks very beautiful, super portable, good sounding, and also high-end class like the Beolit. But this A-B comparison certainly suggests that the Mania is outclassed by the (less-expensive) Beolit 20, thus reinforcing how happy I am with the B&O at present.

@@127Foxtrot I spent a good couple of hours testing it extensively, and had the cash to buy the Mania in my pocket. I’ll keep the Beolit.
Why mania sound so muffled and closed compare to beolit ?
@artjomnoorlind Жыл бұрын
the middle and tweeters of the devialet are directed upwards at an angle, therefore, with this arrangement relative to the microphone, they sound muffled than they really are. if get mic 1meter away and half meter up/ sound will be much clearer. listened to them in the audio salon. one of the few mobile speaker systems that can build a legible sound picture. directly compared with harman onyx7. Harman is just a loud boombox with tweeters.
@bornaetemadi Жыл бұрын
@@artjomnoorlind so you mean in person mania sound better than beolit and onyx studio 8 ? I was thinking about sonos move but i have to test both of them 🤔 I saw a frequency response graph in rting site and it shows that mania has a roll of from i think 6000 to 18000hz and also in bass region so it might need 3 or 4 click boost in treble and bass at least to become more balanced sounding speaker
