im a new revert alhamdelillah. i used to play video games a lot, listen to music, smoke weed..... let me tell you it might feel good in the moment but at the end of the day, you feel empty and you feel depressed. I love this lecture because he hits everything spot on. When I have children insh a Allah i won't allow tv/violent games, However it is very important as Muslims to have good fun safe alternatives, otherwise the kids will end up going to all of this bad stuff.

Brother I will give you a remedy. Find your favourite reciter of Quran (mine is Minshawi in maqaam Nahawand). Listen to the recitation, find those portions (may take a few weeks) which impact and move the heart. Next stage listen to these portions, repeated over and over again, hours a day, till the tears start streaming. This will undo the damage that music had done to the heart, and soon, insha Allah, after a year or two the heart will no longer desire music. This is a treatment I came upon by accidentally and I no longer listen to music with intent for a decade now. The Quran is a cure.

As a young adult who lived in North America most of his life, I watched this video for the first time a few years ago. It opened my eyes to not only the influence of the media on the world but also how almost each of these things effected me in a negative way from the age of 10 onwards. I am 26 now and have learned to be more wary of these things. InshAllah, I hope Allah allows all the young muslims like me who got trapped by music, movies, gaming, etc. to see it for what it is -- just another distraction to keep us from our true goal to worship Allah. Ameen.

At first, I wondered WHY Allah SWT let me wander SO far into the dark before calling me back to His service. Why I lived with sorrow in my heart for so many years. I had wished I never knew these things. But I have come to understand. As quickly as others are running away from their fitra...I am running towards mine. I appreciate with my whole heart the love and light Allah SWT showed me when He answered my call that filled that hole in my heart and now want to fill it more each day. My sincerest thanks for your tireless efforts to warn the ummah of what we're up against. JazakAllah khayran to ALL who strive in the way of Islam!

The moment I started remembering my dreams the morning after I realized all the junk my mind was being fed, most of it even passively just passing by TVs, random jingles, ads, and images. Some of the dreams are so sick and frightening, it’s scary to imagine it’s coming out your own subconscious. I had this disgusting dream that a yellow cat with no arms and legs was going door to door to seek shelter and I kept closing each door and saying no to it every time it was such a sick dream full of ugly sights of dismemberment and disgust I have no idea how I can even have dreams like that. I definitely have less dreams like that once you pay more attention, seek protection, and limit yourself to content like this. But it’s hard work! Definitely.

Thank you for bringing out the 'malady of relativity'. If we don't have a spine of steel formed by High Principles, which hold us Up and Straight, we are bound to deviate. High Principles NEVER CHANGE with 'modern views, etc. Like 'Do not do unto others, what you wouldn't like others to do unto you.' It is clear, it is eternal, if one practice just that commandment Jesus gave us, you will never wrong anyone and your life will have the quality only a pure heart aligned to God's ways can give us. We just have to adhere to High Values and Principles given to us by God, not make up our own relative, or adapt to 'whatever everybody is doing'. Thank you again. I am an Epichristian, which means Above What is now known as 'Christianity, which Allah warns you against saying, 'Do not befriend, those Christians, and dJews who befriend each other/. What is called 'Christian' in our days, it hurts me to say it, but has nothing to do with Christendom as taught by Jesus. The Vatican has been invaded by demons and is now - as Vladimir Putin publicly said - under the control of a very dangerous man who is taking advantage of his position to establish a global system of Communism. Thank God Putin dares to go beyond politics and speak the Truth. You have the Koran, which has never changed. That is a magnificent record and I feel part of the strength that holds a true Moslem up right. I descend from someone that had a strong respect for the Principles that hold Islam strong. He and Saladin were respectful of each other, although each one found himself holding war against each other., Saladin gave him a name for which he was known afterwards, it is Saladin who called him 'El Cid' name for which he was later known. I enjoy very much the intelligence of your teachings and welcome the fact that they are available to all of us, Thank you again. This is a very important point, every Muslim recites and is required to recite these words before reading the Holy Quran, "auzubillah minash shaitan e rajeem" meaning "I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan". Non Muslims dont know this and dont recite it, and then read parts of the Quran and get deceived and deviated from the message in the Quran and start misquoting.
@rickstorm89484 жыл бұрын
and this is not only for reading the Holy Quran, its whenever we have impure thoughts or impure feelings, or anger etc, so we recite this all the time.

Assalamu alaykom wa rahma'tullah, I can see the relation, however, Hannah is the name of the mother of Maryam [as], so we have to be careful and not go too far. Jazaka Allahu khayran wa barak Allahu feeke.

He was saying that people that worship the devil like to read back wards, and in this case her name was hannah which wasn't her real. But also I'm a Muslim and my daughters name is hannah but we didn't use it for that purpose.

Shaykh is right, I was playing a lot of games as a child, and it really hurt me in the long run. I mis-prioritized and self-sabotaged my life carelessly. I enjoy games, but I realize there is a lot of life to miss out on, and I'm a lot happier, I'm reading, exercising, studying. I do think that there is something deeply problematic about the materialism, violence, sexually explicit overtones. I also think it is possible to craft good games and experiences, I like Nintendo, and some of the more kid friendly stuff, but I'm old now, I'm not a kid, I just don't have the time. I was never interested in the GTA or FPS shooters to begin with. I only recently in the last few years managed to shake myself out of it, and I'm really reluctant to pick up something new, for fear of getting sucked back into it.

I also think that video games can be highly artistic, and the discourse around video games is very black and white; Either it's benign, or it's the spawn of the devil, nothing in between. I don't think video games are responsible for/cause violence. I simply think they are an outlet for aggressive tendencies, possibly destructive ones, and that the discourse surrounding video-games is quite divisive, and it doesn't need to be. People are violent, and art reflects people. The types of games are broad and far reaching, there are puzzle games, action, adventure, role-playing games, tactical, board games, real time strategy, fighting, platforming, shooter, point and click, card games, arcade, 3rd Person, Indie. While it's true that FPS games are the most popular genre right now, the beauty about creating simulations is we can dream something better, and we should. I deeply respect/love Shaykh HY, but I also think that there is a lot of potential for VGs. Skepticism is good, I don't think it's so clear cut to paint with broad brush strokes.

@@tesselationstation i love hamzah yusuf but watching things like this (black and white) categorising makes me hate myself really, i mean what should i do sit all day pray in masjid and read quran, even hamazah yusuf doesnt do that, sometimes we need to take things lightely and its good to fire up some game online and just play for a while. I have tried before to stop lisnteting to music and movies and videogames for several years, i was super religious, was feeling great for a while, but with time i got depression severe depression, and almost lost all my hobbies, ended up feeling a void like no other, like everyday is just a drag... the common man like us is not a sheikh, we are not travelling the world for dawah or having a college to run like sheikh hamzah yusuf, not everyone is destin to be a sheikh, straight up, so i think the best thing we can do is being in the middle, i cannot live like hamzah yusuf even if i tried, the guy is a genius and have studied islam from one of the biggest ulama in our times (in the malaki sect), i mean if i had his genius and got oppurtinity to study with an alim i would not have time to play videogames anyway, and i will be having little to no knowldge about it which is apparent when he addressed videgames, Mind you my comment could b a cope... an excuse i make to tell myself to avoid what hes saying and presenting, allah knows best.

Solitude is an amazing gift for humans beings. Solitude is an amazing opportunity for people to reflect on themselves and the environment around them. Some times at home when I am with family or friends, even when we are not talking just living amongst each other, I would feel like I can't really think because I am sometimes too conscious of others around me. So for me personally, there is a great benefit to solitude. Many messengers, or even philosophers and scientists of all sorts etc. have received or discovered enlightening knowledge whilst in a time of solitude.

And there is nothing wrong with music or freedom freedom does not mean that people have to misbehave.And if there is a god I have nothing to prove I am a good person do no harm to anyone.But to think all the time, God would be happy with how I live is terrible And Muslims are so scared that they will go to hell, that is absurd.

The problem with TV and social media etc. is that it is so time consuming and a total distraction from reaching a spiritual state. From reaching a closeness to Allah. People don’t sit and just ponder anymore. People don’t wonder anymore. Just by observing people who watch TV or on their phones one can easily see how distracted they are. They won’t even here you, when you call them. The ”black box” pulls you in and it literally grabs and holds you like a devil. What happened to our society is a shame. We’re loosing every aspect that makes us human. Humans are not supposed to be antisocial beings who are on their phones all day. Doing nothing but staring on a black screen. Becoming nothing in life...
