Devilbiss FLG5 SGK600 V ANI F160 1.3 For Base Coat And Clear Coat, Cheap But Good

A revisit to the ANI F160 v FLG5, I like both these gun's, they work well, last well, don't break the bank and give very good results, I prefer the F160 for the reasons stated in the video but you won't go wrong with either, thanks for watching 👍

As a fellow sprayer, I don't really rate the UPOL 2080 as a clear, in a DIY setup anyway. Even with a fast hardener, it's so slow to cure! If you can get hold of it, try the Roberlo VT141 with CT6 fast hardener. That is a proper fast drying clear, which will happily cure without the need to be baked at 60 degrees, unlike the UPOL. Just putting it out there. Great video!

Hi Jay, I haven't really found that with the Upol 2080, I use X fast hardener in winter, so under 15c, and it goes off pretty quick although you lose some gloss with the X fast, even with the fast hardener it still does pretty well. I haven't used the Roberlo VT141 with CT6, so I will give it a go. For better jobs, I use Mipa CX4 with HS10, which is very good and goes off fast, with HS10 anyway. I do realize the 2080 isn't a great clear coat although I get on with it ok, in many of my videos you may here me say, spend some money on a better clear, as it makes the task much easier and normally you'll get better results. Hi Pete, great video as always mate, before I came across your channel I nearly bought the Devilbiss SRI Pro, but after watching you as you know I decided on the ANI R160Q the little ANI,s are a great set of gun’s and I’m very pleased with mine, great for a starter like me in the hobby. I got great results from when I done a clear on a wheel, I was using the cheap upol clear that’s out of date by over 2 years, so anyone reading this don’t be to afraid to buy any of these guns just get out there and have ago the hard part really is the preparation and is definitely how your project will finish is how good your preparation is from the start. Cheers Steve, wise words indeed, preparation is definitely the key to a good finish, I still think the little ANI R160 is the best vfm mini gun and the F160 is the best vfm in the bigger class, both still around £100 and capable of excellent results, cheers buddy 👍

Hi Dean, I've had the FLG5 for 6 or 7 years, sold it once to a mate who bought an extra 1.3 tip, never used it so i bought it back for what i sold it for. It was getting the F160 probably 3 years or more ago that made me want to sell the FLG5, i happily plod along with both now, these are great guns for smaller budgets so deserve a video once in a wile, cheers mate, thanks for the support 👍

Thanks Rob, I really like it, last time i did a back to back with these it was just clearcoat on some bike tank's, bike and cycle stuff is normally my thing, the difference then seemed greater than now but the F160 has a wetter center weighted pattern which i like, it's still just over a hundred quid which is a bargain and there are loads of options, I really like it in 1.9 for HB primer, much better imo than the AZ3, both these imo are much better than the AZ3 really, thanks for watching mate 👍

FLG 5 is not for me, but ANI F 160 1,7 is maybe the one..? Question; How many F160 version are there? There are black, silver, Plus, and more.. What (new) version you recomment for primer use? Hi Juuso, hope alls well with you in Finland, There are a few different versions but they are all the same bodies just different finishes on the exterior of the gun, the S on some versions means it has reception for there digital gauge, they also do 4 caps,HVLP, HPS, WB and Clear. I've only used there HPS cap on this gun which is a good all round cap, it uses just under 8cfm although it's a little less than that due to the pressure not needing to be anything like as hi as they say especially for high build primer. I don't have the 1.7, I have 1.3, 1.9 and 2.5 but they are all really good so I'm sure the 1.7 will be too, highly recommended

If i understand right, Primer gun quality is not so important than clear, as long as we could say it as "spray gun".. Obviously you can read my funny English.. Lol ; )

Your English is excellent mate so don't worry about that, the ANI F1 is the same body as the F160 but not as good a finish, it also has a less refined cap and tip so if you can try and go for the F160. You are right a high build primer gun doesn't need to be particularly good and the F1 would be ok but doesn't lay it as nice as the F160 so leaves you more work to do afterwards, I have the F1/NS which is the F1 without air adjustment and is very cheap, it doesn't spray as good as the F160 though

Good side by side comparison Pete and as you say the finish from then is the same, really interesting video mate but please stop pinching my colours as I've just posted a flow coat in that colour 😂🤨😉 The only ANI gun I've got is the R150 mini gun which I used to use quite a bit when I was learning to paint but I do have 2 FLG5 guns and all the tip sizes for them, I used to use them for primer and base but never tried clear through them but will give it a go now I've seen your vid, cheers Pete 🙏👍

Todays effort with the W400 ended the same as I posted today but not as bad only a sag this time, Sonia had a bad fall on Friday so I'm very busy looking after her, she's ok but in a lot of pain so my head is not in the right place atm!! 😟👍

Hi Lee, the Devilbiss is supposed to be just under 10cfm and the ANI around 8cfm, the reality is the ANI draws slightly more than the Devilbiss!

Silly question...do you move the clear from the tin can to the plastic bottles when you first open them as I see many bottles on your table . Do you move the hardners to a plastic Bootle to? The flexible top of my tin can of my hardner as broken and I move it to a small plastic bottles,for some reason I noticed that the hardner as become solid in some parts of the bottle...I guess the bottle is taking air .... would the hardner go off and would it be better to don't use it? Are all hardner the same ....can I use a brand of clear with a different brand of hardner? Can base coat be moved to plastic bottles to make it easier to pour them in the measuring cups?Thank you very much for your vids...I have just started to learn how to spray.

Hi buddy, I normally use plastic bottles as they are normally faster and easier to use. With hardener, you need to store it in containers that have little or no air. You also need to keep them cool as possible. If the hardener is going off, it may still be ok, but there are times when even if it's liquid, it's still no good, it's best to try it. You can put paint in bottles for easier dispensing as long as they are HDPE bottles

@@peteshobbies5383 can I store harder in the fridge 😁? I have some clean bottles where isopropyl alcohol was stored ...I believe they are those type you mentioned. Regarding the hardner ...sprayed a tail gate ....first few days seemed not cured ..2 weeks later some rain water seems to have damaged??? Could it be the hardner problem

If the clear has been mixed at the correct ratio and it hasn't cured,then it does sound like a hardener problem, yes, the fridge is fine

Hi Ivan, neither will disapoint but i prefer the ANI F160 particularly as it's available in 1.9 which seems to lay high build primer better, there's not a huge gulf between them but i would go ANI

I bought an flg5 before because it had good reviews. When I got it sorry to say I immediately hated it. The fan is so small in my opinion and I only liked it for sealer.

Ha Shaq, your right, it doesn't put out as much material as the F160 in the same tip size, the fan is very similar but the FLG5 isn't as wet so it slows it down, I was happy with my FLG5, mainly in 1.8 for primer until i got the F160 which is imo nicer to use, cheers buddy 👍

Hi buddy, there's nothing wrong with the FLG5, I still have mine, but the F160 is imo, that bit better and a bit cheaper most places, but it probably won't last as long as the FLG5. You can't go wrong with either, and the FLG5 may well suit some people more than the ANI F160. I appreciate the comments, buddy, cheers 👍

Hi Dave, yes, these days i do, and primer, it helps, particularly if its cold and even if its warm, it also makes the paint, primer or clear go off quicker which helps keep dirt, runs etc to a minimum and speeds things up 👍

Sorry Dave, i misread you question, I'll leave the wrong answer up as it helps others who read these, the answer to your question is a microwave, if you look in the reflections of some paint jobs you will see a microwave, this is not recommended and not something you should do but it's what i do and it works well for me, for most materials 8 or so seconds per 100ml is fine
