It's not anyone's f*cking friend. I've been a drunk since the summer of 1982 and now it's 40 years later. It's not a friend. Grow a brain. It's a killer and it goes right for the Central Nervous System. It messes up everything in its path, then it concentrates on other parts of the brain. I started drinking regularly when I was two. I'm 42 now, so I've fought with this beast you call a friend for 40 years now. After kindergarten, I was drinking martinis handmade from an old cocktail waitress in Las Vegas, Nevada. I'm a real alcoholic and that sh*t isn't my friend, but I'm drawn to it. Alcohol is a frenemy and we fight often. It's not a friend. It's a pseudo friend, a killer, a controller. It's too much and many things all at once, but it is nobody's goddamned friend. It won't let me go. Keep your kids away from it. It's not funny, cute, or entertaining. It's debilitating and disabling. No, dear, it's not a friend. It's too demanding and controlling to be a friend. Live and learn, you, but learn well before you put out your advice. It's important that you understand this thing thoroughly before you dole out advice. God bless you so much for caring enough to toss in your two cents, though. It's big of you and it's thoughtful. Learn more and continue to. Thanks for trying to help, though. It matters. Your support matters. Please keep learning. Awareness is important. However, above all else, don't give a toddler, a child, or a teenager booze. It doesn't make you cool, it makes you an assh*le. Keep learning and God bless you in the process.

Its amazing how songs bring back memories. I used to work in a casino back in 2012. It was a miserable job. I worked in one of the camera monitor rooms. I spent about 6 hours a day, staring at coworkers trying to find something to get them in trouble. I hated doing that, but I had another camera room that watched me, to make sure I was doing my job (I got written up a few times). I REALLY needed the money, so I stayed until I could find a better job (I did thankfully). Every day after work, I would sit in my car and stare at the lights on the nearby interstate, listening to this song, and feeling absolutely hollow as a human being. Its so weird. That was such a miserable time in my life, but listening to this song now feels so pleasantly nostalgic.

She ended up working in a casino and would tell us stories about people who won 70,000 and were still in the hole for the night..that always blew my mind. A lot of people around here work their ass off just to make less than that in a year.

@@Steve-1269 there were so many crazy and sad stories from the casino. Like how a bunch of the regulars were literally homeless. They lived in their cars and gambled all day. The casino enabled it by comping them free food and occasionally a hotel room. But they would gamble away every penny they could get their hands on, over the years, the amount of money they lost was in the millions. Or the shockingly common occurrence of people not wanting to leave their machines to use the toilet. They would just shit their pants and keep playing. Security would then ask them to Leave when others would complain of the smell. It was a wild inhumane place. I'm so glad I'm not there anymore.

This individual showed it to me " because it would help me understand the condition better". I listened to it for about a week none stop after that. And after the research I did in to the artist, and the reason he writes these songs. Which I can not strongly recommend enough for you to do yourself. I can also say ( the reason I am here making this comment) that the other day I was taking part in an update training course, and they played this song. I can also tell you, that in my job, that when ever I come across someone who needs to hear this song. I play it for them. Ren, you don't know how many life's you have helped with this song.
