That's nonsense. 1. Everyone in America making legal money pays these things. 2. Fighters keep more than 30%. The standard is 10% corner, 15-20% manager, 20-30% promoter. Lower tier fighters get reductions on those/outright skip those/just get paid flat fees. Big name fighters get the best deals on those. PBC fighters do NOT have a promoter at all so they pocket promoter fee. 3. And taxes are paid AFTER all other expenses so it wouldn't be 37% of $6m. It would be 37% of ~4.2m

As for what you said about the benefits of being an elite, being past the age of young, I'm happy to see a young brother on the scene of your accomplishments who seems mature and well-balanced. Only the top 1% are making any real money. Plenty of fighters are actually paying out of pocket for travel expenses to fights and after paying your trainer 10%, cutman 5%, you are barely breaking even. Not to mention paying taxes at the end of the year. I knew plenty of guys who were fighting in D.R and mexico for $400 and spending more to get there. All to build a record and one day get a decent pay day. Its a rough sport.

This a bad example because the basketball and football players making veteran minimums were elite earlier in their careers but they still add value to the team. This is the same as his example of fighters that used to be elite but still making money. To his credit though, in team sports, you have role-players. There is no such thing as a role-player boxer.
@whydopeoplealwayssayuhm
@whydopeoplealwayssayuhm Жыл бұрын
you dived too deep into the team sports aspect. he's saying there are "mediocre" players in those leagues that earn more than "mediocre" boxers. he's not saying there's role players in boxing, where's you get that from? rewatch it again if you'd like. i'm going to explain what he's trying to convey with more details than devin was able to. he's basically saying your first or second contracts in the nfl or nba can guarantee you a certain amount, based on your base salary, if you're "mediocre", which is usually an average of a few million. rookie contracts for lottery picks can earn a few million per year. anything above the 10th-12th pick is usually just under a million per year, around 900k per year for 4 years, unless they renegotiate the contract for a re-signing if they exceeded expectations (rookie max). and then you have contracts for veteran minimums which are around 2.5 mill per year. so he's right, players in the nba can earn a few mill per year while being decent. BUT if you're an undrafted player you're getting paid less in your first contract until you exceed expectations and are nearing the end of that contract, and then they'll re-sign you for more. in the nfl a rookie earns around 750k a year for their first 4 years. after finishing those 4 years, your base salary becomes 900k minimum. so if they sign a 3 year contract they'll still earn a total base salary as a vet, earning close to 3 mill in 3 years. an upcoming "mediocre" boxer would not earn half of what they're earning in a 2-3 year time span compared to nba and nfl players. and the examples of salaries i shared aren't for star athletes or players who were elite when they first played, or mid-level contracts, they're the rookie base salary and veteran base salaries.

Its numbers. Alot more people can be pro fighters than be NBA players. There's no roster limit. That's why there are pro boxers today that look like they started fighting yesterday.

The problem with comparing mid NFL players and NBA players to mid boxers is that there are no leagues in boxing, a truly mediocre American football/basketball player is nowhere near the NBA or NFL and is literally not getting paid a thing. A mediocre boxer can atleast just about get by.

Right, you can lose and boxing needs to have less fighters protecting the holy '0' and it used to be that way. One example more recently has been Derek Chisora, a top 10 heavyweight who loses most fights BUT he puts hell on opponents and sometimes comes close. He's entertaining as hell so, despite losing he's had a fairly impressive series of good paydays. Ryan Garcia will earn more big money superfights despite losing to Tank.

Floyd started that. After Floyd marketed that “49 have tried, 49 fell short” etc All these boxers don’t want to lose that 0. He helped boxing and screwed it up at the same time.
@jonathandewberry289
@jonathandewberry289 Жыл бұрын
@@Ishbikes there seems to be recurrent phases of this (Floyd reliving/remaking the famed Marciano 49-0) and then it phases back to demands to see the best of the best fight where both the winner and loser go up in value and acclaim. Mayweather definitely did not help (and did and didn't as you rightly say) but here's a place where the rubber meets the road: Fans. casual fans who see a loss and post 'EXPOSED!!!' videos and comments. fans who decide x-boxer is who they're about UNTIL a single loss and they abandon them. There comes a time and place where its on us. It's on fans to realize everything in boxing gets better when a '0' is not magic and losses aren't always a 'lowering' and if you want to see the best fighting the best then you can't worship this Holy Zero thing, you can't get hot over 'Undefeated!!' like that's all that matters. We MIGHT be seeing that change happening (?) but just recently I saw something about Joe Joyce AND Zhang Zilei BOTH getting bigger money opportunities. Another insisted that Tank Davis AND Ryan Garcia are BOTH getting higher offers than ever before. IF that's true then that tells me fans are starting to put their money where their mouth (internet comments) are and are now rewarding and supporting, ala tickets and buys, the top fighters who risk their '0s' but giving fans the big top ranked fights they love. Garcia goes UP in value. Juggernaut goes UP. but fans have to be the ones who make that happen.

The one thing I hate about sports, especially, sports and entertainment that the black race dominates is, we get the shittest deals. People don't know this but a lot of fighters actually pay a percentage to their trainer, cutman, agent, sometimes other management or promoters and even governing bodies, these things are unacceptable. Athletes need to negotiate more, the idea of a standard contract and standard industry practice is ridiculous. Bankers would never allow this type of nonsense in their field. They wouldn't try this nonsense with anyone else, at a certain level they'd simply be compensated for their time and services, nothing more nothing less. If you're paying 5% to a cutman of a $10M bag that's 500k, that's unacceptable, even 100k is unacceptable. Paying 10%+ to a trainer that's unacceptable. These guys need to understand that they're basically companies, they shouldn't be retaining merely 30% if they're lucky of their bag after taxes and all other expenses. They need to set themselves up like an actual business. You have NBA players making hundreds of millions of dollars... that's a corporation, why are you giving away half in taxes... why are you giving agents 5%+...

@@Axqeus I was talking about the industries and spaces where the deals are terrible unfavourable, they're industries dominated by black people. Sports, entertainment, music or at least at the highest level in each of these fields. The deals and contracts are nasty, fields dominated by other races like Hedge Funds, Investment banking, Natural Resources, Mining, Construction, the contracts are very favourable. Imagine a luxury realtor telling a client that they're going to take 20% of what they earn from sales. That could never happen, even advisors in the music industry take commissions, same with managers, in corporate, managers earn salaries, they can never ask for 20% of the companies earnings not even CEOs lol There are certain industries where they violations are crazy, boxing is one of them. That's why a lot of people didn't like when Floyd decided to have control over his situation because it cut out a lot of the middle men that were trying to rob him

You are more likely to get rich as an elite boxer than anything else. You can't compare a million playing 82 games vs a million for going to training camp for 8 weeks and fighting one night. Think about all the D1 stars that won't even make the NBA or NFL. Shii, you can be trash in boxing and still make money as an opponent. You have to be one of the best basketball or football players on the planet to make a penny in those sports.
