Question... Leapt like dog from man... Terminate high thinking... Known in your prophecy... Sun... Sun it shifts, and brittleness subsides To sleep... sleep away Sun comes, The rain will always be And things I am are things that should not be They laughed at me, but we never bothered My friends and I There were no others Now it comes... Bolt across the blue... Shadows dance over the land... Walls high, water deep Brick and steel gathering speed The water deep I guess it's just a feeling ...Guess it's just a feeling... The rain may come The rain may never be In things you are are things I need to be My friends were there but they never bothered Now there's you and I and there are no others It's like a death becomes musical ...It's musical It's like a death becomes musical musical [3x] And it comes... To make sure that he will never rise And the groans from the bellies have never cried this hard And the eyes of the wicked ones have never been so full of dust In the middle of the sea it waits... ...Closer... Home, nor anywhere on Earth on that final day will anyone be apart ...one...schooled...together... Towards the sea... And we may drown, fly, fall from faith ...but the pain won't be realized Because the emotions will hit like God should And the mountains will offer no shelter And the clouds will be no cover No matter where we run We will simply not be alone [4x] Don't die on me, don't go away When I need you here in my need The rain will come The rain will always be In things I am are things that have to be My friends have come and I never bothered 'Cause myself and I There is no other It's like a death becomes musical, it's musical [2x] "See this thing here? Oh. That's not what I'm trying to say. That's the wrong one. See here... there it is. It's a driving range. In the air. You stand in that corner there and you, uh, shoot golf balls. Can't catch it, and it's in the middle of the city." "Wow!" "See, during the day this place is pretty lively. Head back the other way, see if you can get any more things that are open. That is great lights here. Not doing it now, man, it's too early. Maybe it's too early, but during the day... When it's rush hour, you cross the street... And this really stupid tune comes on... It's playing a digitalized version of 'When a Body Meets a Body Comin' Through the Rye.' This stuff on the ground here is all for the blind. Lights up at night. My eyes are all wrong and I run into something. 'Parlor Fukuoka'... see? 'Fuck you OK,' eh? Heh. On all the roads there's beer machines and cigarette machines. It's the karmic aura, it must be in harmony."

I was lucky enough to meet Devin Townsend on a Chicago sidewalk before one of his gigs...Saw him walking down the sidewalk in front of me and I said "Uhhhh, Devy?". And when he turned around I couldn't help but freak out a bit. It was hard for me to stand, and all I could say was "Holy shit, it's Devin Townsend". What do you say in the presence of a musical genius and your all time musical hero/inspiration? He asked me and my gf if we wanted a photo with him, and I asked him a few questions regarding his music. Very chill and awesome guy. And later that night, I got to see DTP, Gojira and Opeth put on an amazing show. Absolutely killer day that I will never forget. Love your reviews and commentary, man. Keep on kicking ass and enjoying great music!

You're one lucky guy!They say you should never meet you're idols but I'd definitely make an exception in Devin's case.He seems such an interesting,likeable gentleman and an awesomely talented singer/writer/performer as well.I'm very jealous lol.

Also met him - awesome guy. I have a tattoo that's a DNA strand with the DTP logo in it. put it on FB - his Social media guy PMed me to say he showed the tatt to Devy and he loved it (could be BS, you never know). Saw him in Sydney with Meshuggah (heaven gig) and he recognised the tattoo. Best artist and dude.

I've only recently discovered Devin so never got to experience DTP live but I was lucky enough to catch him on his Empath tour last December and the show was awesome.The guy is an insanely talented performer and always surrounds himself with great musicians.

Yeah, it's really hard to top that performance. His vocals are just unreal. His range is just amazing. What is really crazy is that he claims that he has no singing technique, that he just does it through pure force of will. And there is absolutely no reason to doubt his honesty. Pure talent, pure genious. One aspect I really love about Devin is his musical span. He doesn't care about preconceived boundaries. He just makes what he wants, and fuck it, everything he touches turns to musical gold in my ears. It almost makes no sense to recommend just one or two songs from him, because his music spans over so many different styles and emotions. It's almost inconceivable that someone who made Deconstruction could make Ghost, but he does it, and it sounds as whatever style he dives into just comes out naturally from him. That whatever he plays really sounds like it comes from his heart, naturally and not forced, just makes me as a listener drawn in whatever he plays. There are so many songs I could recommend, but I'll name just 5...Grace (from Retinal Circus), War (also Retinal Circus), Daddy (live version from the Casulties of Cool live DVD), March of the Poozers (official video from Z2) and Juular (video from Deconstruction).

You commented on how amazing his vocals here were. One thing to consider is that this was at the very end of a 2 hour long show, and he was still singing this well... If you want to check out something a bit different from Devy, check out some of his stuff from his Casualties of Cool project. The stuff is very atmospheric and has allot of blues and country elements in it, which Devin executes beautifully (like basically everything else he does).

Awesome!! Happy you finally watched it!! You had the same reaction as a lot of people after hearing this. Goosebumps and chills and just being mesmerized. I would like to recommend Bastard from the same concert. It is actually the song he plays just before this and it flows right into the death of music. I suggest you watch the entire performance when you get the time. The first half is a conceptual album that's pretty silly but is awesome at the same time but the last half has some of his greatest songs as you have seen already.

It wouldn't make much sense as a reaction video, but honestly what you need to do is just listen to the entire Ocean Machine album in one go then tell us about it. It'll be one of the most satisfying hours of your time you could block out for something. The Death of Music is entrancing, but the build up starting from Funeral through the very end is just magic. Take it from a fellow devy head here, and I'm certain most everyone else. that first full run through of Ocean Machine is where it's at. To have that again, I envy you.

The Plovdiv live version tops this one just a bit and it has nothing to do with Devin's performance. Flawless in both. The entire Plovdiv set is split into two. The first half is with a full orchestra and full choir backing the band and they play a good variety of Devin's work (not just DTP). Then after a break, it is only the band, only the bass player changes. It is John "Squid" Harder. The second half is Ocean Machine in order in its entirety. That is the album The Death of Music is from and Squid is the recording bassist on it and he now has MS. He plays the whole album from a chair and sounds amazing. I would never do a reaction video to this one because I don't like people seeing me tear up and this song does it every time.
@JudoGeoff
@JudoGeoff 3 жыл бұрын
I think that was one of the most perfect ways that Dev could have handled that performance. I heard that the decision to have the orchestra there for only the first half could have been due to budgetary reasons, but I don't know if that's actually true. Artistically/performance-wise, it worked well to have the latter half be just the band grinding through the album. Having Squid there as what in a way served as a send-off for him (I understand that he can't play anymore and that this was his last public performance, or at least one of his last). When presented with the opportunity to have him on stage to run through such an incredible album at a concert that was specifically organized to honor that album, one would be crazy *not* to do what Devin did. I'm so glad that he brought JH in for that performance.

he played this song at the show I went to here in Australia. I'm not gonna lie, i had tears in my eyes from the sheer power of hearing that song live and I'm not normally one to react emotionally to anything live. it definitely felt like it was on another level. would love to see you react to Steve Vai - In My Dreams with you. Devin got his start as Steve Vai's singer. it's crazy to think that 4 years after that album, he was able to write something as epic as the death of music
