@Romulan2469 Жыл бұрын
I always saw the Devon character as sort of a father or uncle figure to Michael. In the early episodes their characters clashed with each other and Devon was quick to fire many jibes at him, but never in a bad way, always with respect and admiration and then over the years Devon and Michael grew a greater appreciation for each other. It's great to see this kind of character development in a show. Also yes, Edward Mulhare was perfect for the role, bringing a sense of class, sophistication and respect for the character. When people talk about great tv shows, it ultimately comes down to the interrelationship between the characters and the storytelling. The special effects are nice, turbo boost, super pursuit mode etc, but that isn't what made the show great. Try explaining that to producers today and they don't have a clue where to begin. The 2008 Knight Rider series was a complete flop because the special effects became more important than the writing and the characters.

This scene started with a chance of being a good movie, but the choice to remove KITT in this way sort of soiled it. As excited as I was back in 1991 when this came out, and as good as it was to see Devon and Michael again, this could and should have been a lot better. Funny how the parts bin had a round steering wheel, exhaust tips from a 2nd gen and basically nothing from an actual KITT car, except the dash. Furthermore this looks to have been shot on videotape instead of film. Nonetheless I am glad this was produced, it just should have been a lot better. Thanks for sharing this scene as I haven't seen it since 1991.

Everything backfired even though the TV movie had very good ratings. I think the studio never liked the concept that the show was like 10 years in the future which required so many fancy location and set work to be done to make it look futuristic. Of course in the end they just went with excuse that the new cast was unlikable so they won't make a series or other TV films. And yes I don't think Knight Rider 2000 was post-produced on 35mm more like it was done on analog video just for the cheap digital effects.

@@Q80Warlock Thanks. Back then I clipped and saved the ratings from the paper. It rated high that night but I don't remember now. So I thought they might make more but nope. It's a shame they didn't relaunch the series back then when David was still young and everyone was still alive. The 3rd gen Trans Ams were cheap. They could have "upgraded" to the 4th gen in a couple years. Plus it didn't make sense, since he didn't make anything that could do something the old KITT couldn't do. Even in real life, you don't get rid of especially good machines that easy. I really didn't like that they killed Devon off, I know it was the catalyst for Michael to temporarily return to FLAG but it diminished the whole film because Devon was a crucial part of Knight Rider/FLAG and to Michael himself. Also it was sad that KITT's original car was scrapped, the new car of KIFT wasn't a favourite compared to the Trans-Am from the series, but it was good that Michael installed KITT's CPU on the new car. Overall it was really odd to see Michael the way he was because in the fourth/final season of Knight Rider, he is with Devon, Bonnie and CJ celebrating four years of his new life with his closest friends/family. He knew after the death of Stevie that he could never lead a normal life but he accepted that.

I somewhat disagree. At the end of the “Scent Of Roses” episode where Stevie was killed, Michael and KITT returned to the Foundation, but you could see in Michael’s face, a part of him died with Stevie. I think this is what lead to his eventual burnout that you see at the beginning of this movie. The puzzling thing to me is that Shawn, in her advanced researching abilities w/KITT’s chip in her brain, couldn’t seem to figure out that Michael’s depression could’ve been related to losing his true love.

I have the movie on DVD, and I watch it sometimes. When I was a kid, I was happy to see David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, Edward Mulhare (RIP) as Devon Miles, and hear William Daniels as KITT in the movie. Two things I didn't like; one, Maddoc, I really didn't like him, still don't. Two, I hated him even more when he dismantled KITT's Pontiac Trans Am body. The only thing they kept for KITT was his voice modulator and his red scanner, which saddens me that I didn't get to hear the scanner sound in the movie. Don't get me wrong, I like the Knight 4000 car, which was a Pontiac Banshee concept, but it wasn't the same without the black Trans Am. I only watched the Film again because David and Edward Muhlare were in it. If it hadn't been for that, I wouldn't have even watched the Film. I hadn't really watched the subsequent Series Team Knight Rider and Knight Rider 2008, apart from a few individual Episodes. I find it funny that he says here: I love to go fishing. And in the Season 1 Episode Good Day at White Rock, when he asked about fishing too, he just says: I find it boring.

After this tv movie and Edward Mulhare';s death in 1997 it pretty much made it impossible to be able to recapture that special chemistry between Devon, Michael, Bonnie and Kitt. Oh sure they tried to reboot it several times but Over-sexualized the show and hired new actors who were generic and boring. which is why they all failed and were subsequently canceled. Even trying to do a movie now would be hard to green light at this point.

I still watch this regularly, and I'm wondering what happened to the 57?

Michael puts KITT into it, KITT drives it off a pier. Then it gets restored and Michael drives away with it. As for the actual car, probably either scrapped, or in some collection somewhere.

the REAL Kitt and the semi, and the trailer Kitt use to drive into are owned by “Knight rider historians “ youtube channel. The semi was found abandoned and recovered, and the trailer was only recently recovered, and is being stripped down and restored to TV series condition.

Aside from touching scenes like this, the story is really not that great. I saw this when it aired when I was in Jr High. We were not impressed.

Why did they dismantled KITT again? It was no reason for that and what steering wheel is that

Because Maddoc didn't think him worth to keep around due to his age and sold him for parts.
