Devon Days Out #1: Okehampton & Alder Vineyard

Welcome to the first in a new series of days out in our local area. Today we have a wander around the Dartmoor market town of Okehampton followed by a visit to a local vineyard with a tour and some lunch.

Thats my home town...we lovingly call is 'Soakhampton'...wet weather gear required alot :-) But when the sun shines it is fabulous!!! A small town with some great little shops. The Moors right there and north and south coast about an hour drive away....perfect! By the way, us do have internet...lols!

Some shops are starting to sell some bananas like that for cooking things like banana cake. It did say on the box perfect for baking. The more ripe they are like that the sweeter they taste and you don’t have to wait for your bananas to ripen more before you can cook with them.

Great vlog! You Brits are such troopers..inclement weather doesn’t stop you you just “carry on”. Here in the Midwest if it’s bad weather we just cancel and stay in. It's not just England - we have been battling Tropical Storm Elsa, where it has been raining, thundering and lightning for days, with today producing torrential downpours, street flooding etc. We've had two heatwaves (3 days of 90+) and then it dropped into the 50's over the July 4th weekend. Thanks for this - I love sticky beaking to see what other places look like!

We went on a bus tour to a winery ,as it turned out they were understaffed on this particular day .The tour guide asked my husband to help out and while she set up glasses etc,.he opened the bottles. Then he helped out giving everyone a glass of wine. The only thing was he poured one ...for a visitor...one for himself...one for a visitor ...one for himself.....you get the gist !!! He ended up pissed as a newt . If looks could kill ( as far as I was concerned ) funny enough he was Mr.Popular with everyone else ! xx

In many vineyards in Victoria and Tasmania walking through the vines is forbidden because people may spread diseases to the vines.

Loved this! Even though the weather was not brilliant. Im so annoyed too as we are due to go to a theme park tomorrow for my eldests birthday and its now forecast to rain all day. There was no rain predicted last friday when I booked it. We will have to go and make the best of it. Looking forward to Days out in Devon, really enjoyed the vineyard, that view was lovely for lunch.

Had lots of holiday in Devon & stayed in lots of different areas, had some amazing weather & some bloody awful weather in equal measure, its perfect when it's warm & sunny but as a 'tourist' when it rains its not so much fun, quite expensive & the parking fees are horrendous everywhere, Sidmouth is a lovely place.... Weather permitting!

Caroline, I bought a little squirrel house off Amazon,and I filled it with peanut ‘s without shells. That’s important because they will eat their fill there and then and they won’t touch the birds food.It works for my birds and in two years I’ve only had 3 squirrel’s come visit.Starlings are more of a problem for me.
