I can only apologise for the hurt that will besiege your eyes in this video today.. I build the ugliest McMansion I can muster, using all of my least favourite items in game.. ENJOY!

McMansions really started popping up in the 80s in my area. They are charmless, lifeless abominations that I feel should be destroyed along with the architects and builders who thought it was a good idea.

In all seriousness, "why do they keep building these", Americans as a trend want to feel as wealthy as possible without paying for it (or admitting to themselves that True Opulence and Quality is out of their price range), so they demand affordable mansions. Architects then build these houses as cheaply as they can, throwing as much random architectural details as they can to Make It Look Fancy without caring about balance or symmetry because their clients don't know the difference, they're just gonna be WOWED by the double-height entry way! and the columns! and look honey, it has turrets like a castle! So basically, they get built because there's people who can't afford a real, well-designed mansion & want to feel like they're wealthier than they actually are, and builders slap them together as quickly & cheaply as possible to meet said demand. (and before someone gets mad that I'm trashing Americans, I AM one and I KNOW LOTS OF PEOPLE LIKE THIS so I'm speaking with experience)

OK. I know this is an older build but you made my night. (I found you a few months ago) I live in an area that is closely adjacent to a McMansion neighborhood. The McMansions have been around for decades. Huge houses, large windows, nothing matches and they are built so close together it is absurd. They aren't as... colorful as yours to be sure but the "build" looks familiar. LOL My city (suburb) isnt that old...1850's and was farm land so not a lot of old houses. Cookie cutter blocks. The history we do have is mainly seen in Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Still, 1850's. I am a Minnesota girl. My heart is much older and I love historical homes, builds, castles. Maybe my English heritage is tied into that? Who knows. Anyway, I thank you for the laughs!!!

As someone who has lived in Connecticut my whole life, I love this idea. These houses are hideous and have seen all too many forests get completely cut down and replaced with entire neighborhoods of these McMansions. The backs usually totally have those decks, but often lead into an in ground pool. :p

I agree those Get Famous objects look hideous in that house, but I use them all the time myself! They're not for everyone's taste, but my style is a mixture of opulence and Moroccan/Mediterranean vibe. In real life, I just moved into a bigger flat and ordered a pink velvet sofa!
