People use the phrase "it's the thought that counts" but never truly understand it. When your disabled son says that he would like to have taken care of his father (in so many words), it's done. That gives a father all the courage he needs to move mountains. Obviously not all fathers are built like this one. So if you are lucky enough to have one, go tell him you appreciate his ass and hit him in the feels.

"One of the greatest love stories of all time" says it all! Dick never once took other people’s credit, where it belonged to the brothers or mother they got it. This isn’t the story of two men, it’s the story of a strong loving family who were decades ahead of thinking at that time. My wife and I both have acquired disabilities and met volunteering at the Disabled Peoples Organisation (DPO) where I now work in the UK. Prior to becoming disabled I’d spent many years working in the learning disability/mental health sector. Even in the U.K. I can see where this family and many others like them changed so much, I don’t even think DPOs would exist without them. When I married my first wife in 1983 we lived with her late cousin who had cerebral palsy, so much has changed since then. With disabilities America and Britain have advanced together and I thank Dick, Rick all the Hoyts and people like them from the bottom of my heart.

My son Was diagnosed with trisomy 18 and died at birth. The cord was wrapped around his neck too. They gave him no hope and told us to abort but his father and I wanted to give him a chance! He was OUR baby! I cried watching this as Rick represents my son and how special he was! 🥰😘

My son has CP but he is diplegia and can walk use a walker and he is working on using canes. I showed him this video today and he told me that one day he also would run a marathon. I ran my first marathon last year and I will, hopefully, run that marathon with him one day.

Thanks for the encouragement! When Darren was diagnosed with CP, the doctor told us that he would never be able to walk. But after these years of work, including a few surgeries and the SDR surgery performed in St. Louis Children’s by Dr. Park, he can use canes and some times even walk without the canes at home. These days he walks 2-3 hours per day using a walker and we are training for a 5k! As parent, one just needs to believe in the kid, have hope and put the time and effort in it.

My name is rachell from the phlippines,i used my step dad phone to watch these awesome inspiring father and son great bond and the love of a father toward hes son ,me and my family are in situation today because our step dad is milld stroke he couldnt speak well sometimes we cannot understand what hes saying too and we tried to understand what hes saying to us to the best we could and he couldnt walk properly,before our step dad comes to mild stroke he suffered a mild heart attack and we thank God hes fine many days and weeks passed by that he can do everything but alas now its not he suffered mild stroke hes sickness that he get was because of our step dad lifestyle dringking and smoking,

As dad of our beloved Alessandra this story pushes my heart in a way I cannot even describe, she is blind, has Complete Agenesis of Corpus Callosum and Spastic Cerebral Palsy. We have done all we can so far, and this video makes me feel so empowerd to do even more . Even she is only 3yr old and that our road with her is barely starting; I deeply believe God has placed this story in our lives as a fountain of hope, love and courage.
