It's not about holidays and working hours. It's the children and the bureaucrats. They are absolutely vile now. The culture in this country is foul. Children are rude, disrespectful, aggressive and violent. Teachers have absolutely no authority in their own classrooms which are totally out of control, and are then lambasted by their seniors for not delivering lessons and results that are up to standard. Imagine doing a job where meeting expectations is completely impossible so you feel like a failure every day and get treated like dirt by all the children you're trying to help.

Parents need in depth training on how to be parents rather than their children’s friend. Being a parent should be difficult and hard work if it is to be done well. Having small children not being school ready is a disgrace and parents have let their children down before they have even started. Probably a life time disadvantage for the children someone will reveal in the future.

When the last labour government toke away power from the teacher in the classroom, the influx of children that cannot even speak English, as they parents have not learnt the language as well. Then you have teacher training in term time, instead of in the holiday time. Then you add the very bad Administration and lack of support. Then add the got to help this group or that group because of the skin colour or race etc..instead of being able to treat all the children equally. Then add the fact that teachers have to deal with the disorder from some children in the class room, who do it knowing teacher cannot touch them. Add the parents that seem to think their child is special and have a go at the teachers, because the brat come out complaining about the teacher. Then we add in the religions of peace who go after the teachers, remember one is still in hiding two years on from showing a picture in RE. An you wonder why teachers don’t want to do the job or no one wants to become a teacher.

Their parents visit & contribute and the kids have rules but don't need discipline as they are brought up properly by the parents! Parenting in the last 45 years is poor; no rules set down; no discipline if kids break those rules and all they do is put them in front of TV or given a phone! NO OR LITTLE INTERACTION AT ALL!😡😡😡😡😡

I left school in the early 70's and saw the start of the decline. Our head teacher was changed, from a disciplinarian, to a woke pacifist. At the same time as they banned the cane. I saw for the first time, a pupil having a stand up fight, with our maths teacher. Nothing was done. Pupil remained at school and the teacher not supported. All power has been given to the kids. They 'know' their rights. Teaching has to be done with one hand tied behind their backs. Informal seating arrangement in clumps, instead of facing the blackboard and teacher. I wouldn't want the job.

Both of your guests are wrong. There are some fantastic teachers who do a wonderful job with the students in their care. It is and always was a profession. However, there are also some extremely poor teachers. It has always been difficult to remove poor teachers. Poor attendance and attitude as evidenced by the number of supply teachers now required on a daily basis. Some deliberately play the system! School management is also to blame. If you have a good headteacher in place then you will be supported and enjoy success ( eg Michaela Community School ). Bad management can destroy a school. No surprise good teachers are leaving the profession. Poor pay and conditions need to be addressed as well as status.

A stress free job actually requires the ability to separate private and public life...ie NOT work. A lot of employers are more than happy to get employees to to voluntary work in their own time, in order to cut costs. It is literally the equivalent of demanding unpaid work as a condition of employment.
