Check out the new Dewalt 20Volt Max 21 Degree Cordless Framing Nailer Kit, model number DCN21PL. This tool will be launched in September of 2018. I'm thankful to The Home Depot and being a member of their ProSpective Program, so I can give you a first hand look at this tool before it launches. The kit includes the nail gun, a carrying bag, 20V 4Ah battery, no-mar tip, and a battery charger. This tool is completely cordless, so there's no need for a generator, compressor, fuel, air hose, etc. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to respond.
DEWALT DCM21PLM1 NAILER: homedepot.sjv....
Question of the day: Are you ready to switch from pnenumatic to battery powered? Is 845 nails per charge enough for the work you would do?

This tool is provided as part of the ProSpective Program with The Home Depot. I just want to say thank you to them as well as DeWalt Tools for providing this tool and sponsoring this video.

I am a homeowner with a day job who does not do anything construction related for a living. That being said I am working on framing out my basement and Bought this kzbin.infoUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt gun. I have done a few walls already, have probably shot a couple hundred nails through this thing and have yet to have a misfire. It works awesome, good depth on every nail if you have your compressor set right. My literal only complaint is that it is a bit heavy and my arm can get a little tired especially whrn I am nailing at odd angles. That being said I am super happy with it and would buy it again. Hoping the old girl allows me to get my whole basement finished out!

I just got this gun and it is amazing. With Battery Technology like it is today I've literally cut the cord on all my tools. And only use battery power and get better performance now. I have two big DeWalt bags full of batteries and they last me about a month before I have to recharge again.

Cordless nailers are high high on my list of needs. I got to use a friends and fell in love. And, I thought DeWalt already had a cordless nailer out? I dont think cordless will ever replace framers and roofers pneumatic. Those boys have them pneumatic nailers down to a art.

You'll probably just see cordless slowly take over in the renovation and repair market. If you're doing production framing for a townhouse complex or something the chances are you have a compressor and power set up nearby and it wont take long to move. If you're a contractor doing a large number of small jobs though, the cordless units will probably win big time in productivity, since you wont have to pack up and move your pneumatic setup to a different job and send time setting it up, and there's no hassle of having all that shit crowding your small work space. In fairness though, it should be said that the cordless units can do everything the pneumatic units can do (just a bit slower in fire rate), but the pneumatic units cant necessarily do everything the cordless units can, in respect to mobility. Battery runtime is not a realistic concern as long as you're not a cheapskate or an idiot; as long as you get another battery and remember to put it on the charger you'll never be able to burn through one before the other charges.

If only one stick why didn’t we go shorter yet on the magazine? The reasoning it’s not shorter is because whether we went with the 1 stick or 2 stick design, the dry fire lockout still needs to be in place regardless (which adds about an additional 5 nails of capacity to both magazines). Additionally, we looked at all types of nails….ours, Grip Rite, Paslode, other generics and found that not all stick lengths are compatible (same length), so we took the length of 1 stick of the longest strip of nails we could find plus the dry fire lockout distance.

So I just bought one used (very little) it is in great condition. I didn’t get a manual with it so videos like this really help. I do have a question; the battery is rated (4ah). When looking at batteries at Home Depot and Amazon, they show 20v batteries in many “ah” ratings from 2ah to 6ah. I sort of understand the difference but if I use one with a different ah rating, what will happen? Are there any good/bad to using different rated batteries?
@MarkThomasBuilder

4ah is a good all around size. You will get longer runtime with a higher ah battery. I would think the nails would still drive in the same, so matter what size battery you're running.

Seems decent. A little slow. I prefer hand nailing which I know would be slower but it keeps the wrist strength up. That way I know I won’t have an issue picking up my tackle box later in life.

It was one of the first battery powered ones to hit the market. It's pretty amazing compared to a pnenumatic one that requires a compressor, hose, oil, etc.

markthomasbuilder I’ll agree with ya mark. Gonna give in a another few months to see if these things fall apart. I’ll say it would be nice to not deal with parts breaking from forgetting to oil. But you know how it goes by the time I figure it out they be on the 24v system.

This nailer worked well at the time of testing it with no fuel cartridges to power it. The only issue I have now is that it has to ramp up for firing a nail first. Once it ramps up, it fires 2-3 nailer quickly. The technology improved this year with Milwaukee not having to ramp up. I'm guessing DeWalt will introduce a new version soon.

I think the DCN692 is superior because: 1) Holds 55 nails max vs this gun's 49 nails. 2) It weighs 8lbs vs this gun's 8.5lb weight. 3) It will drive 3 1/2" nails vs this gun's 3 1/4". Can anyone tell me why/how the DCN21 is superior to the DCN692???
@MarkThomasBuilder
@MarkThomasBuilder 6 жыл бұрын
Those are good questions. I don't have the DCN692, so I'll have to look into it and see what the differences are. The DCN692 uses different nails, 30-34 degree. This one in the video uses 21 degree nails. DeWalt also mentions it has increased power and drive quality.

@@MarkThomasBuilder , I went to Home Depot to conduct some research on nail availability & discovered that the only 30° - 34° nails sold are Passlode brand, as opposed to the assortment of 21° available. So, in short, the only two shortcomings of the DCN692 are its 21° nail availability and also code restriction of using "D Head" nails (depending on local municipal code regulations).

This model uses a full round head nail that is required by some building codes. The othe model uses a clipped head nail or offset round head nail to gain the extra capacity. That's the main difference. I really like Dewalt tools but my research has led me to believe both of these guns don't hold up in the long run. If you need a full round head cordless nailer, Hitachi has a beast of a gun. If you can use the clipped head/offset round head nails, the Paslode Impulse will serve you well. Just be sure to purchase the latest model. They have come a long way since the early black and orange models.

@@briancrisler6660, thanks for the reply. I'm a general contractor, so the frequency of need for a framing gun is marginal for either some pick-up framing or the odd side job, in which case I don't need it to stand up to the day-in-day-out rigors that a "full-time framer" would need. I already own all Dewalt Cordless 20V MAX & FlexVolt, so a DeWalt cordless framer makes sense. I likely will sell my DCN692 & get the DCN21 because it meets code in all municipalities and the nails are a lot easier to find...

@@MarkThomasBuilder maybe i was being harsh, I love Milwaukee brand. Had tried the Dewalt and found ramp up time a hindrance...The Hitachi and Milwaukee nailers use air/nitrogen pre charge which is less moving parts and lower maintenance.

Had a ton of problems with this gun. I wanted it to work so badly but kept jamming every time I tried to shoot it once it jammed the first time. Brought it back to the distributor company I got it from where they service the tools and the tool guy said it’s a reoccurring issue with those guns. They are in the shop more than in the field. I love the concept of this gun but sadly it’s a liability on the worksite. Sorry guys.
