Picked this up as a lighter alternative to the 20v drills, pretty impressive!

I love that drill. I just used it today to wall mount a desk. I sold all the 2.0AH 12v batteries I had and made the 3.0 and 5.0s my standards. The drill gets a 5.0; it gets quite a power boost with it. My DCF 601 screwdriver gets a 3.0 since that's just used for light assembly tasks. I highly recommend getting a 5.0 or two if you can, they're great batteries. They only add a bit of height and weight; the drill still feels balanced with the 5.0. My 20V drill is the DCD800, it's an amazing drill. Compact, light enough (3.5lbs with a 1.7 powerstack) and very powerful. In regards to the powerstacks, I use it with both the 1.7 and 5.0, with the 5.0 on there most of the time. The 1.7 powerstack weighs 312 gr btw. I'm seriously considering adding the DCD794 to the arsenal so I have a lighter 20v drill that I'll just keep a 1.7 powerstack on. I'll see what pops up around black friday. edit to add: The DCD703F1 uses the same body, motor (same speeds too) and motor housing, just with the swappable chucks. That one is my main assembly driver. The hex chuck lives on it 99% of the time. That's another amazing driver.

Never thought I would hear 'RONA' from a KZbin video!! I have this 12V with hammer function. And it fits almost everything 'inside' work. Not a warship like powerful but the grip and weight distribution is so good. Moreover, the trigger sensitiveness is better than the Milwaukee counterpart which is actually better for 'delicate' stuffs: like a PC assembly, electronics, etc. I picked up the hammer function to work with backyard flagstone stairs, but well, it's never going to be used that way in near future. So, I think getting this drill without hammer function seems to be a better idea since 20V tools are better suited for those jobs.

I put that 12volt drill through the gardens. Put in 4x4 studs into the ground about a foot down using a 2 1/2inch wide auger doing multiple passes to widen the gap. That little drill can twist your wrist if you ain't careful. Of course i was using a 5ah battery. It's a little beast.

Although I am a big fan of DeWalt kit (I have a lot), they have made a big mistake in their 12v range (IMHO). Sticking the batteries on the bottom in a block makes them as clumsy as an 18v. Others have put them in the handle- much neater and easier for what is an assembly drill (12v brushless is as powerful as 18v brushed). Sadly had to go to Bosch for their drill- with the detachable nose, giving right angle, offset, and hex fitting at any angle. It is a great drill, use it all the time. There are other makes that got it right too- come on, DeWalt, admit your mistake and go for the in-handle battery.

Agreed. It's probably too late for Dewalt to switch now though, changing a battery format is a huge pain for everyone concerned and would risk lots of customers jumping ship in favour of Bosch or m12

True. I actually like this better as I can stand the drill up on its battery and I find that makes it easier to grab.

@@mbwoodbutcher If you want to do that with the Bosch, you just insert the 6Ah battery. More flexibility…

Started buying DeWalt 12v a few years ago now I have all the drills except the hammer drills. As an aging cabinet installer their great! The 3ah or 5ah is most for bigger jobs.
