DeWalt DCD999 Hammer Drill Chuck Jammed

Brand new DeWalt DCD999 hammer drill had to go back to the store and exchanged for another one. This is the 2nd one having the exact same issue as the first. After drilling only like 3-4 holes, the chuck won't loosen or tighten, makes a clicking noise when it's not supposed to, and won't turn counterclockwise. Ended up exchanging it also and now trying the 3rd one.

Mine did the same thing. If you are able to tighten the chuck all the way that should fix it.

Well, the 3 prongs don't move at all, no matter which way you turn the chuck. No way to tighten it.

@@BenEverett1 if i open the chuck all the way to fast it does just that. but if i tighten the chuck all the way or put a bit in it. so far that would fix it.

Mine just did that. Sprayed PB Blaster in it and kept working it loose.

I have encountered the same problem. Mine happened while digging some backyard soil with planter auger bit which is like 2” diameter. The auger bit fell off the chuck and the chuck became stuck like this. I fixed it by holding the chuck, driving the 3 bicepts(?) to close then driving again to those 3 fully opened up. Like some other commenters said. Surely, this a good walk around. And I do not need to use drill for any professional environment for now. But if this happens frequently on a job site, this will be not only annoying but also drags productivity down. I can now understand why all the contractors around my town use Milwaukee.

It looks as if he is pushing the chuck into the body of the drill while turning it. Which sorta makes sense do to the way these chucks go together, after the shaft is threaded in, the whole chuck assembly is then pressed/smacked into the drill.

Mines was doing the same. I was ready to take it back. I fixed it by closing it, holding the chuck and letting it spin until it was all the way closed then reversing the spin while still holding the chuck. It opened.

The close it all the way only works for one time then jams again. Mines a 998. Love it but now hate it. Low use but it’s 3 years old.

Dewalt dcd999 do not buy. The chucks are a defect. So the three jaws that grip the tool bit have threads on the back of them. When you open the chuck all the way, the jaws derail off the outer threads that cause them to go in and out. When you try to close the chuck they will not rethread or get cross threaded in the process. It has no stop to protect the chuck from opening to far. Dewalt come on. I’ve used the drill max 20 times and it needs a new chuck already. The jaw threads are stripped. Should be a recall on this model,,,,

I just got a 999 I can already tell the chuck has wobble. I’m considering returning it and getting a 998 or a 996 any thoughts would help man…

@@JCW4238 once I replaced the chuck it’s been the best drill I’ve ever owned at this point. Only reason I kept it and dint return it was because I was past the return date so had to fix it.

One of the teeth has come out and now sticks above the others after, opening chuck all the way and pushing teeth (tooth) against a block the thing re-engaged, but still a tooth off. then it came completely un-done again! I am using it on hammer setting for drilling concrete, and it is several years old now and never had this problem before.

Same problem less than 1 year old! really disappointed - due to pandemic, I didn't register until 30 days later (instead of 28 days / 4 week as it requires), no warranty! Really disappointed.☹

I have the same problem with my 999, the Chuck is empty no drill bit inside yet it clicks no matter which direction I spin it

I have same problem, fix by tool shop, 3months later use twice jam again, I change to AEG now

Only had mine a few months and this same thing happened. I've barely used it! Conversely, I've had my Ryobi for YEARS and never had this issue. Makes me regret moving away from something that works to this garbage. #dewaltsucks

Это особенность патронов dewalt. Решается данная проблема очень просто. Надо затянуть патрон до конца и прокрутить до щелчка. Тогда треск пропадёт.

Этот способ помогает только в случае , если кроме треска во время вращения патрона ещё и кулачки движутся. Обратите внимание, что в данном видео показан случай, при котором КУЛАЧКИ ВНУТРИ ПАТРОНА НЕ ДВИЖУТСЯ при вращении патрона

Eso me pasaba con el dcd996 pero se soluciona con solo dejar de girarlo, ponerle una broca, ajustarlo y listo. Cuando la quites ya se ha solucionado el problema.
