This is one of my favorites. A lot of people don't understand that this is not a flashlight, flood light, spot light or large area light. This is for small areas. I use this for working on service panels, underneath kitchen and bathroom sinks and under the hood as well as underneath the truck. This small area light excels at those tasks.

I bought this light but never used it much for a long time but ended up being my go to light for working on stuff and I’ve tried and used a lot of lights over the years.

The only major difference is new 1000lm version marked as Type 2 on the label, but old 500lm light is Type1.
@pitcherthis64833 жыл бұрын
I didn't know that. I just checked my light and it is marked "Type 2" on the label. That's a good way to tell which light you have if you don't have the package. Thanks for the info!

Nice video and review. Would be nice to actually see how it would light small work areas or furnace panel and try the mount on around work areas to show us how it would hold. Maybe for your future videos. It's seems like a solid work light.

I want a cordless work light, and I have a small variety of DeWalt 20V batteries. This light seems to fit my intended uses best, but seems to lack versatility / features compared to the competition. Milwaukee has an additional hook for more hanging options. Ryobi has a lower height, three brightness settings, and a head that not only tilts, but rotates as well. Maybe if these go on sale for $50 again, I might pick one up, but I can't bring myself to pay $70-100 for one.
@pitcherthis64833 жыл бұрын
Some very good points. And this light is starting to get a little dated now. Another option for you may be a stand-alone rechargeable light. I just bought a two pack at Costco for $40 Canadian. They have a strong magnet, a hook, and a tiltable handle. Plus, three levels of light with a maximum of 2000 lumens. I'm hoping to do a video on them soon and compare it to this light. Thanks for commenting!

The only thing I don’t like about the Dewalt light is when the battery is getting low the light shuts off for 2 seconds, complete darkness then comes back on and continues to do this until it’s dead, it’s really bothersome and sometimes not safe. Instead Dewalt should’ve put in a beep for a low power indicator. Other than that it’s a great light.

DCL050-XJ is the model number that produces 1000lm/300lm... I was confused as well, by the different specs from store, dewalt webpage as well as amazon. In the end the "XJ" denotes the later model years (after 2019) that produces 1000lm on high and 300lm on low.

@@bennycorless4801 if it’s the old 18V that pushes up into the tool, then no it won’t fit. If your battery slides onto the base of the tool, then yes it will work. You can see the base of the light in one part of the video. As far as I know, If you live in Europe, Dewalt’s batteries are 18V.

I have a Type 1 dated 2017 and have used it a lot. Only gripe is the light is a bit blue in color. Don't like blue light. If I knew that the new ones cast white light I might buy another one. Hard to tell on video but it looks whiter & brighter than mine. Lowe's website still advertises it as 500/250 lumens so I presume it's the old one. Anyhow they jacked the price to $79.

They do this often. Even when there should be a recall for poor performance ... they hide the problem best they can. Ex the framing nailer needed a second speed do achieve 3.5 nails as claim. Same model just new version.
@scsc93113 жыл бұрын
It's not poor performance. When this light came out, it was top of the line. But technology advances. It's good to see Dewalt update tried and true designs with the latest tech. I remember the original Maglites. It's all I used for decades. Have you tried using one of those now? I can't believe I got anything done with those, but that was the latest tech at the time.
