Both saws are great but you would think that they would learn already and added these two features on the new power detect but they didn’t and that’s making the shoe adjustable and four-way position.

Hi Vince Can you please help me with reciprocating saws please. Which is better between the dewalt xr and the dewalt xr flexvolt. I am after a reciprocating saw that doesn’t have the heavy weights with the battery attached to it. Which brands do you recommend please. In a kit or separately I don’t want Ryobi. Because I have broken 2 pivot shoe on the Ryobi. Ryobi tools are doe doe’s. You and your wife do a marvellous job with the tool reviews in the different stores. how does the 20v power detect compare against the flexvolt with a flexvolt battery. Does the saw draw the same amount of power from a 60v as it does from the 8ah 20v? I'm thinking of getting either one of these sawzalls but i dont want to have to buy the 8ah battery to get that sort of power.

20v tools become under powered when using a 60v battery. Its weird but it happens.

​@@juanmancinas56very incorrect. At least with most of their tools. It's well known that the 8 amp xr will power tools better than the 6 flexvolt. Even the 6 XR is at least as good or better than the 6 flexvolt. The 6 flexvolt is a rather weak battery. The 9 flexvolt uses different cells and is a real animal on any of their tools.

Great video. Much appreciated and for the most part, i got what I was looking for. But. Now it’s almost 2023 and I need a new saw. Dewalt has 2 other big dogs that I d like compared, the DCS382B and DCS386B. One thing that I would have liked to see is how the 20v xr saws performed with the flex volt battery. I’m sure all the tests are going to be close like this one but still curious

I've had the DCS382 for almost a year now and the amount of vibration it has is unbearable for long term use. It's fine as a home use diy tool, but the DCS386 has waaay less vibration which consequently lets you work longer with fewer breaks from fatigue. I just got the 60v flexvolt saw today and it's definitely worth the extra cost. I tested it with the DCS386 and the only advantage I see with that one is that it can use smaller batteries (20v) which would only lower the power output of the tool being used. The 60v did seem to have slightly less vibration, but it was almost unnoticeable. The boxes for the 60v flexvolt and the DCS386 both say you get "50% more power" with flexvolt vs a 5AH battery, so there's that. No difference there. Battery selection DOES matter btw. You definitely get more power out of a 9AH flexvolt than you do out of a standard 5AH. Remember that it's the battery which determines the tool's power output. The tool isn't the same with every battery. 8AH is also better than a 5AH if you're on a budget. Ultimately, it comes down to what you need the tool to do and for how long.

I was down to lowes and was able to check out the 382 and the power detect model. The 382 is way lighter. I’ll take a little vibration over lugging that beast around. One downside of the 382 and power detect is neither have the 4 position chuck. Only the flex and flex advantage have that. And the little xr of corse. Kind of a bummer.

Do you live in georgia? I saw a probably 2018 2019 white Ford f250 with I'd say maybe a 5 or 6inch lift on it with some nice wheels and the back window had VCG construction decals on it at home depot yesterday and the guy looked like you but I didnt wanna ask cause the pandemic

A lot of the quick cut tests at the start aren’t very accurate . You could do it a 100 x and get 50/50 . It’s only when you went to the longer and harder work tests did it start to show which one had the most power (flexvolt) the 20v doesn’t seem much behind it though.

Like others, i think some of the tests are awful close and the only way to determine would be to test more and with different people running each tool. That being said based on the tests, and the weight differences (60v flex is >2lbs heavier) and batteries... if I had both to choose from I would use the 20v for everyday stuff and I would use the 60v for long cuts and cuts in beefy material.

Hello Ny name is Jesse! Want to ask you a question or for you Opinion. I looking to go buy a Reciprocating saw and I haven't decided what to get yet! I want it for home use and doing my wood working stuff so ill basically use it alot on taking pallets apart wish I do a lot! I'm invested in Dewalt batteries system already but Milwaukee just seem like they make a better Saw I also work construction but the companies I work for alway Supplies the tools most the time its a corded Milwaukee sometimes cordless Milwaukie and there nice but we burn the hell out of them because we do demolition with them most the time it's because its in the hands of someone that use the tool the right way! Lol I'm sure you know what I mean. But anyway was hoping you could give me advice on what I should get i don't mind spending a little more if I get a Milwaukee because they seem to run a little smother but I am invested in the Dewalt line! What would you recommend me getting?

If you don’t mind spending the money, get the Milwaukee, it’s the best. If you wanna save a couple buck but get a good performing recip, give the DeWalt xr compact a shot!

We have both red and green and I know very much for a fact the 40v makita will eat a Milwaukee for lunch on big heavy cuts.
