If they're going to mess with the timeline, I feel the best and least confusing option is to just make the seventh film a direct sequel to the 1996 original, yes, just like Halloween 2018. Otherwise, making it a continuation after 3 or 4 may get a bit murky. I was not a fan of Dewey being killed off, if I am being honest. However, it's done and if you essentially retcon it, it comes off like they're admitting, "Yeah. This shouldn't have happened so we're undoing it."

Well he would have had a reason to be there had they left him still be the sherif of the town . And honestly they could have left him and gale still be married . Very unnecessary changes that created the situation of needing to give him a reason to be there.

I was fine with Dewey dying but he needed a third act character death and he needed to go out in a more badass way. Dewey needed Chad’s fake out death scene. Stabbed by both Amber and Richie. If Stu comes back, Stu killed Dewey and not Amber

I know ppl want it to continue from S6 and not to pull a halloween franchise on itself. But...after Dewey’s death, i dont care if they change it up and it does not continue from S6. I am perfectly fine with it. I really hope that in the future...even if only in a decade...they will bring back Neve, David, Courtney and Jamie for a direct sequel to Scream 96. I would love that. Everything does not have to fit into the scream universe as is...

Considering he was a close friend of Randy and his family, it makes sense. Dewey could have remembered the videotape trick and made it before he died. We also have a good chance of seeing flashbacks with him, considering Gale hasn't written the promised book about him yet.

Messing with time lines in movies and television is confusing I wish this wasn't as big of a thing as it is. Making a movie or tv show and then undoing a lot of what you did by just pretending it didn't happen is just weird like why do it in the first place if you are just going to undo it later. It's a good way to confuse people and not have clarity. Take for instance the conclusion of the original Roseanne show how it concluded and we find out a lot of stuff that happened in the show didn't happen but was written in a book Roseanne wrote as a writer. Whatever happens in this movie I don't want it to be distributed by Spyglass. Spyglass is what has fucked up these movies.

Neve is calling this upcoming movie Scream 7. So I don't think we're getting a continuation after Scream 4 but instead a continuation of Scream 6. So if Dewy comes back I think he will be in flashbacks.

Dewey shouldn’t come back. I know the fanbase loves him but it would be confusing bringing him back and erasing the timeline of Screams 5 and 6. Plus where are the stakes then? They’re not going to bring Dewey back to just kill him off again and I don’t think they’d kill off Gale for the uproar if Dewey did come back. If the OG3 are ‘untouchable’ then there’s no tension when they are attacked in the movie. We know they’re going to survive.

Death is no barrier to further appearances in the Scream franchise (Maureen, Randy, Billy and Richie are examples of this), especially since David Arquette himself has hinted more than once that Dewey could still return in one form or another.
