Dex was pushing for Michael to go through with the plan because Dex had put his life on the line to get into Sonny's inner circle. He was afraid that he wouldn't be able to walk away from Sonny all of a sudden without being suspicious. He felt that Michael endangered his life by calling it off. He felt that to just up and leave maybe Sonny would think Dex was up to something and send someone after him because he knew too much. Dex was also upset because he didn't want to leave Joss but he didn't think he could stay in Port Charles, date Joss, and still be able to leave Sonny's organization with no repercussions.

To be fair, Karen had a WHOLE life (however sadly short), marriage, divorce, subsequent loves and career after the Paradise Lounge (which he'd likely know NOTHING about). Dex looks at Sonny like a father figure now. He just admitted that to Joss. He has to be Jason’s son. Jason took off after Michael was a year it so old. When he found out that Carly was pregnant w Sonny’s child that she lost when she fell down the stairs during an argument with Aj. Jason was gone for almost a year he was hurting from loosing Michael and Carly. That would be perfect cause they can pic whatever mother they want. He can’t be Alex because Brenda got him back and raised him. Dex’s mom was married his step dad and he had other brothers and his mom was always beat by his stepfather just like Sonny was. So that wasn’t Brenda. It had to be someone he met during that year cause he needs to be younger than Michael and if they pick someone from when Sonny had the night club then Dex would be well into his late 30’s and Jason wasn’t even 18 when that happened. However when he took off for that year because he was betrayed and heartbroken by Carly and Sonny. He needed to stay away. So it’s not unreasonable for Jason to have had a 1 night stand. And the only way that Sonny is going to let Dex live when he finds out what Dex was hired for Jason being his father would be the only thing stopping Sonny from killing him and because he’s Jason’s son Sonny will forgive him and then fire him cause he’s gonna know that Jason wouldn’t have wanted his son being in the mob and doing his old job. And he’s also Michaels’s cousin and Drew’s Nephew. So Sonny won’t touch him. Also Sonny would feel like he hurt Joslyn enough so there is that. But him being Jason’s son is the only thing that will protect him no matter what he does.
