Can you layer sounds with this. And can you control the volume of each sound with say a fader perhaps?

3 parts layer/split with independent volume. you can control one or more parts volume with a expression pedal

I'm not sure for this. The new Platinum samples (see my other video) are not available for the L3. I don't know if they will be in future. These factory sounds should be included in the L3... if you are interested it's better to ask them directly from their website

Marcoballa. I am interested in this product. But after going through your online manual, I’m still none the wiser so I hope you can answer a few questions I have. The idea is to operate the SX7 from a midi keyboard controller only. Program changes mainly. The YT videos posted only shows operation from the unit itself. Can program change, volume change etc... be made from the midi controller? Can the midi controller control program changes that are saved internally in numerical order from SX7? Does the sustain pedal have to be from the SX7 or from the controller? When layering, Does midi channel 2 have to be routed to midi channel 1? And does the effect the fx routing? This is not detailed in the manual. Appreciate hearing back from you. Thanks.
@marcoballa

ciao! thanks for comment. I'm just a "home-musician" (not the product manufacturer) and I just can try to answer to some of your questions. Yes, you can change program from the midi controller (I used a SL73). Yes, the sustain pedal can be from the midi controller. In layer you control (for example) both piano and strings from channel 1 (or 2, or whatever). Each sound has his own effect. :-)

marcoballa. Thanks. It is mainly for playing live but without having to have the module on top. The other module I use is no longer in production, and have long been looking for a suitable upgrade. Hence the questions. Even though I think the price is high for only a module, it is the best I’ve heard til now. Last question. For the sound editing. For example, tuning, velocity curve, string resonance, tone character etc... is that only for the whole sound or can each note be modified individually? A bit like the Roland ‘piano designer’ via its Bluetooth app.
@essjay2910

Sorry before I forget. Can the sustain pedal be reversed in polarity f used from a midi controller?
@marcoballa
@marcoballa 5 жыл бұрын
concerning the sustain pedal, I don't remember (I do not have the unit at home now), but for sure you can find something on the manual (in any case, on most controllers there is the option for that). please note that the unit has the "half-pedal" capability, so it's always better to use a continuous pedal, not a "on-off" switch, in order to take advantage of the great sound dynamics. sound editing is (as I can remember) for each piano sound, for the whole sound.

Dear Marco. I find LOTS of cool content on this channel. Could you tell if there is possibility of controlling effects' parameters like drive amount, delay time or other FX parameters with some CC messages on external midi controller? Or the only way is menu-diving in SX7 sound module itself? P. S. i also like Kansas! :) 1974-1977 best years for me
@marcoballa
@marcoballa 4 жыл бұрын
thanks for your comment! I do not have the Expander at the moment, but I guess you can do almost everything with an external midi controller... (I'm not a "midi man", as you can understand from my main vintage setup :-)))) ). maybe you can find an answer from the midi chart? www.dexibell.com/dexibell/documents/MIDI_IMPLEMENTATION/S7_S3_Midi_Implementation_Ver_1.02.pdf and: www.dexibell.com/dexibell/documents/MIDI_IMPLEMENTATION/S7pro_S3pro_Midi_Implementation_Chart_Ver_1.02.pdf

@pawelsz95 4 жыл бұрын
@@marcoballa I don't know what you mean as Expander. Anyway, I had read these files. There are some controls listed there, but there are only these few universal ones, for virtually every digital keyboard. I can understand you may not be a 'MIDI man' if you have lots of 'real thing' instruments. You don't need to deal with MIDI :)

@@marcoballa So, for the effect for e.g. Electric Grand you had to choose MENU > EFFECTS > PART 1 > FX-A and then modify parameters.
@marcoballa
@marcoballa 4 жыл бұрын
expander... is the Vivo SX7 itself :-) concerning the other question... yes, it seems, from the midi implementation chart, that you can only control (with external midi controller) the reverb level and just little else. but there should be an Ipad app/editor and you can change everything from that

Hi Marco, got a question on the size for loading samples. Is the 1.5 GB memory available in extra to the preset 80 sounds or it's just 1.5GB in total? Also how much size for an approximate platinum sample? Thanks!
@marcoballa
@marcoballa 5 жыл бұрын
According to what I remember (I do not own the module any more) if you want to load a big Platinum one, you have to make free space on the unit (it is simple: just unload all the useless sounds - guitar, bells, whatever... -. You can always re-load all sounds any moment you want). My configuration on that unit was: - japan platinum - factory upright - factory CP80 - factory rhodes - factory wurly - some factory strings - a couple of additional synth samples (from their website) Nothing else
@marcoballa
@marcoballa 5 жыл бұрын
the Japan Platinum is approx 800 MB, so about 3 times the internal factory sample for acoustic piano :-)

@@marcoballa Thanks for answer my friend!..., and which DP controller did you prefer with the more responsive, reliable and more realistic key action piano experience between Kawai MP7/ES8, Yamaha P515/CP88 and Roland FP90/RD2000?...

I just tested: - KAWAI MP11 --> GREAT keybed!!!!!!!!! - YAMAHA CP1 --> very GOOD keybed!!!! - YAMAHA CP88 --> "normal" keybed (nothing more) - Roland RD 2000 --> "strange" keybed (I'm not a pianist, maybe it's great for a classical piano player, but the KAWAI is SUPERB!) - KURZWEIL Forte --> TP40 keys, very good!!!! I also tested: - Studiologic SL 88 --> TP40 keys, (same of the Kurzweil Forte) My favorite at the moment is the TP40, very "fluid" and fast responsive, the most similar to my vintage CP70 electric grand piano!

Thank you for this demo. You helped some of us making the decision. Should we buy or not. Not for me. Thank you. $400 for spectrasonic keyscape and maybe $800 for a decent new or used laptop will be a much better choice for some of us. Can't say exactly what it is, but something doesn't sound right in VIVO SX7. Yamaha CP88 and spectrasonic keyscape are the closest to the real thing in my opinion. Good luck anyway.

@@marcoballaThank you. I did listen to the platinum samples, and there are something wrong when you press hard (ff-fff dynamic) on the key. Hopefully this crispy none piano sound can be adjusted so it sounds correct. Let me know if you plan to investigate on this.
