Dexter's Mill Creek Dam Removal

200 years ago, Samuel Dexter built a sawmill along a tributary of the Huron River, later called Mill Creek. This drew people and businesses to the area, creating the village of Dexter.
100 years later, Henry Ford rebuilt the dam, but never got a chance to use it. Another 100 years, and the dam was removed, with the site returned to nature. Check out the past, present, and future of this historic site.

The history that is lost is just a few years compared to the thousands of years that came before

Very true. It's not great that we lost that, either. Hopefully we're at least doing a better job of documenting and preserving now than was done not all that long ago.

They've got a start at it, but they're only damming off a part of the river, at least for now.

That park is so much better than the swampy muck that was there before… The bioswale and storm water runoff control systems there are cool as well.
