2Pac, in 1996, the year that he passed, was not the beloved “Icon” that your generation seems to hold in such high regard. He was looked upon as a traitor, misguided, sort of con artist in that he was pro black, then the next song talking like a gun toting, gang affiliated “thug”, when he should’ve stayed true to his roots! So he was sort of an enigma, that we knew was going to end tragically! When we heard that he passed, it wasn’t a shocking thing, it was a feeling that was inevitable, you can’t play both sides of the coin

I'm from South Side Jamaica Queens (50, Lost Boyz, Canibus, Smurf, Ali Vegas, Onyx etc) and when I was in highschool was around the time Mobb Deep was just putting out The Infamous album. Havoc's brother was known throughout the borough, there was a few young bois that had names in the hood. Killa Black was one we heard of from time to time, he got caught up in some shit and had to go on the run. Freaky Tah of Lost Boyz was also another one of them ones, he is infamous for shooting up one of the only movie theaters we had in Queens (sunrise) and then there was E Money Bags. I don't have to discuss. Nas brother Jungle was another wild one but he don't have as many stories as the ones I mentioned. He was definitely known for bussin his gun though... Point of all this is, Prodigy and Havoc were known to be stick up kids before they got on and early on before Infamous. They was them dudes that would catch you slipping walking out of foot locker or the bank and you'd feel something pressed up against your rib cage and hear P voice telling you to come off that chain. I don't know if they moved weight or any of that but we heard a lot about them all the way in Jamaica Queens... That they wasn't hustling like that in QB but if we take the train from South Side off Jamaica Ave... Don't get off in Queensbridge... You'll come back to the hood barefoot. There's so many stories from back then... It feels crazy to look back and know QB was a few miles away from 109 and Merrick and they made It and so did I. God is good. RIP Bandana P

I heard it was crazy out there back in the day. Bro said dont stop in QB or you'll come back barefoot lol thats wild. I've heard a lot about E Money bags, bro was raising hell. I know you got a lot of stories! Did you ever see 50 in the hood?

@@DexTVReacts yeah he was, Bags was a problem, he shot Just on the same block all the kids from the my highschool had to walk past to get to the bus terminal... He didn't give AF. I just saw my comment from yesterday, my bad for the run on paragraph, wrote this before I passed out after I watched your video. Nah I never saw 50 in the hood, I may have when I was younger cause I lived on 129 and Guy R Brewer until I was 10 and he's from 134 and Guy R Brewer if I'm not mistaken, but I don't really remember those days, most of my memories come from 109 and Merrick, a few boulevards over, I was there from about 10 and on. I met Freaky Tah, he came to my building a few times before he was killed, met Cheeks on Jamaica Ave when Legal Drug Money Dropped, wanted his autograph but the block was too packed. I bought the CD and we dipped. LL Cool J at the car wash on Archer Ave, I see Smurf a few times but I don't know if he was already beefing with 50 or they was still cool, met Rae, Ghost and ODB, they came to my highschool and was giving out stickers and posters. Always would see Ja Rule and Chris Black by Wyanda Park in Hollis, him and Chris Black lived a few blocks away from the park, DO Cannon was with them once, he was another wild one, it was crazy when I saw him for him to get killed a little while after RIP Cannon. Seen Mic Geronimo and Royal Flush, met them at Hot Wax, and old Music Store, Mic signed my copy of his new album Vendetta, and met Billy Danze from MOP on Archer Ave... But nah, never seen 50

This song was released (August 96) before he was taken from us. I remember recording this off of Pete Rock/Marley Marl, Future Flavaz the first time it was ever played. It was a Sunday night The next morning, I went to college and was playing this over and over in my dorm room. I was thinking how that 💩 was truly about to get ugly and was waiting for a 2Pac response.

They would play undergeaound rappers from around the country, Unreleased s9nhs, B-Sides from Singles, certain songs from movies soundtracks, etc. They would also have artists come in and freestyle. Dudes from the West, MC Eiht, Alkoholiks, Xhibit and others mad like a 30 second song for Future Flavas. I remember the radio calling Prodigy when 2Pac got shot in Vegas (b4 he officially died) and the host actually asked P if he had anything to do with it! 🤣 He was like "nah, his mouth got him shot!" 😂 I always liked Pac, and we knew he was wild, but damn, from the stories that have come out since, he was out of control! He was spazzing out and all about the violence, all day every day! He died with charges pending in multiple states! If you watch the news footage from after the robbery, you can Jimmy Henchman and Diddy outside, Jimmy calls Diddy over to says something to him, Diddy looks shook, and then the cops call Diddy back inside. You can see Biggie there too looking shook, they were all surprised that it went there! 2 days later, you see Pac going to court in a wheel chair! Crazy time! It's good to see him get so much love now, but back then he was making just as many enemies as he did friends!
When this song drops back in the day I was loving every second of it..... I'm not the biggest pac fan. Mobb deep first album is a five-star classic. MOBB 💯

I love and miss NYC hip hop. Real rap. Real lyricists. No computer sh*it to go to. And beats, and production. Yeah, there were computers mid ‘90’s, nowadays but how stupid😊 it sounds now. DJ’s and producers would have to dig in crates to find stuff to sample. What sucks to me is the art of DJing in hip hop. Almost extinct. As a young kid I’d go the shows to watch the DJ. My favorite DJ pioneers were K Herc, Flash. (Too young to see them live). And then I’ve got Premier, Flex, Screw. DJ Babu brought back turntabelists even that was awhile ago.
