It seems so funny to have Dexy's described 'one hit wonders'. Here in the UK they were Top 40 regulars for 7 years, with 9 top 40 hits and 2 number one's!

MTV in its early years gets a lot of credit for introducing songs and groups like this to the USA
@BobSurunkel
@BobSurunkel Жыл бұрын
One reason for that is because very few artists were making music videos in the early 80s, so they had to find them anywhere they could. They were more popular in the UK which is why many of the early breakout artists were from there. Also, a lot of big name artists felt making videos was beneath them. Bruce Springsteen famously said he'd never make a music video. He eventually caved and made a video for Dancing in the Dark.

I loved this song when it was a hit in America in the 80s. Thanks so much for bringing back the memories. Watching it on MTV l’d heard the group was from Scotland and figured the video was filmed on some street somewhere in Scotland. Little did I know that many years later I’d be buying a house on that road (Hayles Street) just a few streets over from Elephant & Castle in Southeast London. So no it wasn’t filmed in Scotland. That corner where they’re bopping in front of the shops is where Hayles Street ends at Brook Drive. It was the last place I lived in England after moving to Holland as part of a career change. I didn’t learn it had been filmed there until a couple of years before I moved away in 2018.
