The PS Portal did have an issue with a specific kind of micro-stutter, where it would stutter constantly for a few seconds, then stop, then start again, etc. due to a mismatch between refresh rates of screen and stream (I think). Final Fantasy VII has demonstrated excellent optimization for the PS5 Pro despite being developed on Unreal Engine 4! This shows that Unreal Engine 4 can be very well optimized for the PS5 Pro. I also believe that the developers managed to optimize the game effectively due to close collaboration with Sony, as the game is a timed exclusive. However, it’s uncertain whether Silent Hill 2 will allocate sufficient resources for proper optimization in Pro mode. In this case, I believe that the adaptation label indicating that the game is optimized for the PS5 Pro is not entirely justified.

@Jossages3 күн бұрын
In what way was AC6 technically accomplished? I've been an AC fan since the beginning, but I think the main reason AC6 runs okay is because the content is less demanding. As usual their art direction is doing the heavy lifting to make the game look good. I just went back to that video you mention... "I think graphics go beyond just pure tech, and I think Armored Core 6 shows... That what FromSoftware does even if they're not pushing the boundaries of technology, they know how to utilize their tech in combination with their art to create truly stunning looking games" - John 2023 He then goes to talk about more art direction stuff.

The opinions expressed regarding Sony’s intended acquisition of Kadokawa were a bit odd to me. Kadokawa is a massive media conglomerate who has subsidiaries in many different industries (anime, film, manga, book publication, gaming, etc.), I mean Kadokawa even owns Famitsu. They also own some pretty significant game development studios outside of just From Software like Acquire (Octopath Traveler, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, etc.) and Spike Chunsoft (Danganronpa, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Shiren the Wanderer, etc.) all of whom work with publishers that offer games on many different platforms outside of Sony’s. Kadokawa was pretty good at allowing their subsidiaries to work with outside companies to achieve their goals, which in end benefits the consumer. Sony’s ever-expanding grip on the anime and manga industries also raises concern. To add to it, Sony is not as receptive to offering their products on their competitor’s platform and not to mention Sony’s recent PC policies when it comes to requiring PSN accounts (that are limited to specific regions) that would lock out a lot of PC gamers from even being able to purchase their games, if Sony is successful, many people from specific regions of the world who have played and loved games from Kadokawa’s subsidiaries (From, Spike, etc.) would not have access to those companies’ future releases on PC. So overall, I think that if the acquisition were to go through, it would be a negative for many industries and I don’t think that From’s games maybe having better framerates on one platform would be better for many consumers who would no longer even have access to purchase their games (and many other products).

That being said, I think PC enthusiasts steering the conversation to a hypothetical future where you have to login to PSN on PC, might get access after console and perhaps lose access to From Software titles in specific regions while completely ignoring Xbox users (as well as a potential Switch 2) is really quite telling. It shows me that it's all about me me me me and little to do with the people that will be most affected by an acquisition: the workers at the studio. If you're a fan of From Software games (or Spike Chunsoft/Acquire which just get completely ignored and disregarded in these hardcore spaces even though they make games that plenty of people love) you should be more worried about Miyazaki and other people in leadership positions at From Software leaving because of this acquisition than timed exclusivity. Seriously, these games don't happen without all these people busting their butts making them. Acquisitions suck for workers, suck for consumers and haven't really been great for many companies in the gaming space. They reduce the amount of options workers have by funneling the bigger IPs in a select few companies. This is bad for us, when there are only a few big companies controlling a large part of the revenue of an industry, they can dictate things in such a way that there are few other options. Also yes, PlayStation is being dumb about the PSN login and region nonsense on PC, no disagreement there, I just don't think it's really the main thing to worry about here.

I wish more reviewers (as in literally any of them) would bring up how broken the AI seems to be in Stalker 2. They seem wholly incapable of flanking or taking cover in any meaningful way (unlike the original 3 games), to the point where simply standing inside a building and firing out will see most of the human AI running in circles, standing in the open, or somehow losing track of where the character is. The first 3 games had some actually clever AI, whereas this one feels like glorified COD AI. All of that is also overlooking the fact that A-Life 2 is either bugged, or outright not in the game. I get that performance is bad, but even if it's improved, the core game is just mind-numbingly easy because of these problems.

Alternate both so they never get close to you. Their attack pattern is so annoying I'm not even sorry for using that. I love exploring this game, the weapons are cool, but they really need to improve the AI.

First of those that actually needed it before even PSSR, it ran like dog sh*t and looked like dog sh*t (silent hill 2, jedi survivor, for example). Curiously PSSR couldn't help things... As it needs some work to implement it and not just a tick to check and it'll run. To me it tells a story of incompetent developers that are not so skilled in coding and making things work back end but rather just rely on the stuff that's been put there by engineers at epic (both use unreal engine). It's curious again though that a properly tuned game like callisto protocol which ALSO uses unreal engine... Looks brilliant with PSSR. Then again UE4 titles like FF7 rebirth and stellar blade also look mighty brilliant with PSSR, where the game even before PSSR looked good enough (thou rebirth was very blurry in gameplay) and after proper PSSR implementation, both games just improved drastically. Unique proprietary engines I don't even need mentioning from the likes of insomniac, santa monica, naughty dog, nixxes, blue point games, PSSR looks just outstanding pushing the games to look so clean. It's just curious as if a pattern is drawn that reveals competent and incompetent developers at hand.

@@sermerlin1 but Callisto isnt that demanding in comparison to other RT/Lumen and Nanite features And we cant call the devs incompetent when we have an example of an AI upscaler working properly at the lower resolutions on PC The Silent Hill 2 segment shows that the TAA option is better, so how can it be the developers? its the upscaler isnt suited for lower resolutions. All those in-house engines you mentioned are running the games at a higher base resolution on the PS5 Amateur, so when given more gpu power and upscaling it will look better
@sermerlin13 күн бұрын
@imo098765 how can it be? Because you need to take time to implement it in the pipe line. Make all the assets shaders and parameters work with the upscaler. Se how the upscaler UPSCALES and then further optimize the upscalers parameters/code as well as shaders/assets so that it works better. By the looks of it bloober did nothing of the sort and is reason why lumen looks like dog sh*t with PSSR and why RT is so glitchy. Callisto IS actually pretty much a demanding title but it's damn well OPTIMIZED title so it looks good and runs very stable while having RT shadows AND reflections while running at 1440p and above. It's completely the JOB of developers to optimize every aspect of their engine, assets, shaders, vfx. The poorly working games with PSSR literally indicate just that. Poorly done job as when job is done right (lets excluse first party) it shows outstanding improvements. Increased texture resolve. Much better anti aliasing effect and more stable image overall. Respawn and bloober teams are just not competent to dish out performing working game and it's a fact. If PSSR was bad as well as development for PS5 pro then we wouldn't see good results. AT ALL.

Another Stalker 2 issue that's very prominent (and already acknowledged by the devs) is the broken controller support. There is 0 deadzone on the analog sticks meaning the character becomes extremely hard to control and feels like he's gliding across ice. Now on the PC version you could argue a lot of players are on K&M but that certainly doesn't apply to the vast majority of Xbox gamers. I actually had to stop playing because the floaty feel of the game actually induced motion sickness for me. A simple dead zone slider in the menu would have solved the issue.

YES to the "how" PSSR updates are handled. If we're going to drop this kind of money on a console that right now has major issues with an advertised feature... I want to know when and how upgrades to the tech are planned. Will a console firmware update upgrade the version of PSSR across ALL titles that use it? I believe this is possible and would like an answer from Sony. If each game needs to update .. it will undoubtedly be a mess.

Copied from another thread: If you're a fan of From Software games (or Spike Chunsoft/Acquire which just get completely ignored and disregarded in these hardcore spaces even though they make games that plenty of people love) you should be more worried about Miyazaki and other people in leadership positions at From Software leaving because of this acquisition than timed exclusivity. The problem isn't related simply to Sony or Microsoft, the problem is larger. It's how our system is setup globally. We need better worker protections, and we need to have our global regulatory leadership push back on these acquisitions. Instead what I see is people choosing sides based on some preference for PC, Microsoft or Sony's efforts in the gaming space. This is completely myopic. You can see this with the PC folks that had no issue with Zenimax being bought because they weren't affected. You can see it with the folks who shrugged when Insomniac was bought because they loved their PS4 games. I could go on. I dunno, I guess I wish people just had principles and didn't vary them based on the whims of some shareholders or whether they might have a minor inconvenience. That really shouldn't be the takeaway here.

Ollie saying that Sony buying From Software means they may do Day 1 PC releases is one of the wildest things I've ever heard on this channel. Surely that would make it almost certain NOT to happen as long as Sony continues to be obsessed to be the only platform obsessing over hardware sales.

@ think about the future though, everything Microsoft buys ends up worthless because they can’t make their own games they just buy popular ones but that won’t last forever eventually people want new games and Microsoft don’t know how to make any good ones

How come I didn't see it earlier? Wow... it looks so... real. (touches his face) The wax is nearly as hot as skin. (takes a big sniff of him) It even smells exactly like him...! (begins role playing) Oh, beautiful statue of Adrien, your wax is so soft! Your yak hair is silky. Your eyes are so green. (twirls) Oh, shall I be a statue, too! Everything would be so much easier. (embraces him) Why haven't we been molded together in the plaster of destiny? Marble to marble, wax lips against wax lips, entwined for eternity... Ah... @@pinny_wiz8090 Are you talking to me? I have no idea what you are talking about. In general I'm against media consolidation, and would prefer if developers had more freedom. Unfortunately development costs have risen so dramatically that mergers aren't that surprising. FromSoft is actually one of the few developers that have managed to navigate this and be successful, so the argument that they need more financial support just doesn't apply here

Just a heads up, taking an ssd straight from ps5 to ps5 pro didn't work well for me. Ff7 rebirth became super glitch and had crazy frame skips and pauses in every major hub or small town. Uninstalling and redownloading fixed the issue. Do you think it was shader caching issue on normal ps5 vs pro? Or something else entirely? Just a PSA since I know a lot of outlets said go and ahead and just swap ssd and everything will be peachy.

im a UE5 apologist, and an RT evangelist, but i think software lumen looks straight up terrible in stalker. software lumen doesnt even seem like a feasible option to me, the issues are more distracting than traditional rasterised lighting artifacts ever were. its no wonder so many people think RT is a gimmick when this is the presentation from the most ubiquitous engine on the most popular platforms
