I always thought it was a bit of a rip-off to close Disney early for a special ticketed event, but charge full price for the day. Disney is essentially selling your time to someone else and pocketing the extra cash.
@basicleighdisney5643
@basicleighdisney5643 Жыл бұрын
That's why it's important to check the calendars and avoid attending parks that are closing early for those events. However, there ARE benefits to going to that park anyway. They're normally less crowded during the regular park hours because people who don't have a park hopper ticket or annual pass generally don't attend those shorter hour days so it can be easier to get more done in those shortened hours. It's all about perspective and good planning.

Those are great parks to start a day with and then park hop to another park and finish the day out there. Say, magic kingdom is closing early. Spend the morning there from rope drop to say, noonish, go somewhere nice for lunch during the hottest part of the day, and then finish out the day at Epcot or Animal Kingdom. It works pretty well.

Universal does this, too. They closed universal and islands of adventure yesterday at 6pm for a private event. If I didn’t have passes, I’d be pissed.

@@basicleighdisney5643 how far ahead of my trip date do these calendars stop adding private events?
@basicleighdisney5643
@basicleighdisney5643 Жыл бұрын
@@s.p.3738 Private events are a different thing, and I'm not quite sure if Disney has a cutoff time for those. Party events or the after hours events should have set dates several months in advance, although they could potentially add dates on for after hours without that much notice. But the parties at MK have set dates by spring when tickets go on sale. Sometimes you can look at a prior calendar year to see which days of the weeks had Disney events because they usually don't change those from year to year.

it was so much simpler in the 1990s. I had a 3-park pass my 2nd time at Disney World in April of 1994 and going from park to park was super easy, just show your pass and away you went no matter what time it was. Food was moderately cheap (we were each given $20 and we had some to spare by the end of the day after eating twice). Things are so much different now and so much more expensive.

I worked at Disney World in the early 80’s. It was much simpler then. Everyone had a passport. No fast pass. No (or very few) reservations were required. Everyone was on a level playing field. Now you have to be rich just to enter the parks! The more money you spend, and it’s off to the front of the line. Disney has always been about making money, but it has gotten out of control. Between the cost and the rules, that along with all the fond memories I have, I choose never to go back.
@daylightdaylight6612
@daylightdaylight6612 11 ай бұрын
Yes in the 80's there was no fast pass, you had 2 lines,now you have 1 line fast pass or similar and 1 normal line, so now the capacity has been halved. Previously, for example, tthere was a capacity of 100 people per 15 minutes (2 lines: 2x 50 people) now due to the splitting of the lines into fast pass (or whatever it may be called) and a normal line, one only has a half capacity of 50 people in the normal line and a minimum number of people in the fast lane, in short, the capacity per 15 minutes is much less than before.

I'd appreciate that as a video topic as well, though since my food allergies are uncommon I doubt mine would be brought up. It's capsaicin that I'm allergic to, which is in almost everything. And most people trying to give me advice on what to eat are like "oh this and this don't have peppers, I didn't taste peppers" when it's not peppers that is the big issue, it's most things having some sort of chili powder or chili oil in it that is a huge issue. You are NOT there to relax. I have been to Disneyland and Disneyworld many times. It is NEVER relaxing. You have paid a huge amount of money and your goal is to do as many things as possible in as short of a time as possible or you will be wasting your money. At least, that is what it feels like. I see A.J. recommending taking a break away from the parks in the middle of the day to re-charge. Do you realize how expensive that would be? Figure $200 for a single day ticket, and that you will be in the parks for 10 hours. That is $20 an hour. Say you are a family of 4. Say you take a 2 hour break in the middle of the day. That is 8 hours of break time @ $20/hour = $160.00. You are paying $80 per hour to swim at the pool in your hotel that you are already paying $200 per day to stay at. Disney vacations are lots of fun, but they are never relaxing (unless you have unlimited time & money). Of course, that is never an excuse for rudeness whatsoever, and I agree you should ALWAYS be pleasant to the cast members and other guests.

It doesn’t have to be as early as it used to be but it would be nice if it were 11 or 12 instead of 2. I am about to go to Disney in about a week. I am curious to see how this plays out as we are traveling with our dog and staying on property in a dog friendly cabin. When we go to the parks our dog will obviously not be joining - so I’m just curious how that’s gonna work. Now, our dog is crazy nice and there’s no liability there but they better not let her out of the cabin! I personally like to check in and leave the do not disturb on for a couple days or the whole stay. I kind of understand the reason (which is after Mandalay Bay) but I still don’t like it. I’ll make my own dog inside sign if necessary.😂 I’m also bringing a furbo cam to watch our dog remotely while we play in the parks so I’ll get to see if anyone does indeed enter….

I still haven't had a chance to visit one even heading into my 30s and I've been planning to go to the USA and finally experience Disney World (perhaps DL as well, depending on my travel savings) in the next year or two, and while I'm excited... I'm also dreading it. The excessive planning required and all the little rules, plus the _expense_ and constant money-fleecing just seems so overwhelming. I'm going on a holiday for a once-in-a-lifetime experience (living so out of reach from a Disney park and the cost of living constantly climbing), planning a visit shouldn't require a PhD in Disney Park Experience Planning, especially for people like me who don't have the means to go regularly enough to know what they're doing to plan efficiently, like the frequent visitors do. However, we were so used to just grabbing our tickets and booking a hotel (we also always stay off property), that we had no idea the reservation system was a thing 😬 Luckily I heard about it on one of the DFB videos i watched about a month before our trip, so we were able to go to every park still, just not on the days we'd originally planned.

The ice thing seems silly, but it's kind of important from a security standpoint. Loose ice is very hard to check through by security, with people hiding drugs (more common) but possibly also firearms or even explosive devices beneath ice. Hey I don’t mind a hotel staff member coming in while the room is occupied as long as they knock first. I asked if we needed to be there or not and they said it didn't matter. We ended up actually being present because we were resting up before our second park of the day. And they definitely do knock. The constant interruptions caused us delays getting to our reservations for meals and rides. During a previous visit she and her dog were actually physically attacked by another guest out of the blue and unprovoked. Children hit her dog with toy swords and lightsabers. The rest of the day all the castmembers would call us Queen and Princess which was really nice for my little sister and we had so much fun. They just keep building more and more hotels, which means more people in the park. I used to enjoy taking my kids here when they were young. Now, they would have to pay me to go there.

"Please keep your hands and arms inside the ride at all times" applies to all your functioning extremities. One hand on the safety bar and at least one on your phone does not count. Besides that, electronics are electronics and an unprepared jolt or splash could mean snap, crackle, and even pop. Leave the ride videos to the pros. They often have better equipment than you and sometimes have arrangement with the parks for their recordings.

I’m all for reducing single use plastics but what annoyed me most on my trip back in February was not having lids on the cups and the ones with self service having limited refills. Even less a fan of “get your food first” mentality. I get the point but with a family of 7 with various food allergies, we’re not fans of risking getting our drinks sloshed on whoever volunteers to fill up the table nor is there a point to all of us clogging up a line when dad can grab a table while mom is in line with 1 or 2 teenagers standing off to the side until the order is ready.

“All means of getting around that could be easily morphed into an extreme sport are banned.” Man, I REALLY hope Disney never discovers wheelchair motocross! 😂😜

Boy they just keep making reasons not to visit, and go over to Universal. I last went in 2015 and thought it was getting ridiculous. Park hopping was my thing. I miss the early 00's and 90's. The whole Genie pass shenanigans is why I have no plans to go again for quite awhile.

It's funny how much money we have to spend and how they many rules and limits Disney has put out. I hate the reservation rule and the park hopping rule. Like we pay thousands of dollars and you're telling me I can't park hop before 2pm? Absolutely ridiculous.

I will never go back to Disney without a free semester of Disney rules. I used to just go to Disneyland or Disney world. Universal is much easier.

After going back to DW post-pandemic, I was shocked at how simple it was to visit Hong Kong Disneyland this year.... it was kind of a last-minute layover, so we just showed up (on public transit no less!) and bought a ticket at the entry gate.
