When it comes to flying out of Dallas or picking someone up, I prefer Love Field. Smaller, less traffic, I’m not saying the F word every other word like I do when driving in DFW
@chouseification3 жыл бұрын
DFW is such a mess - granted, road signage is horrible in Texas in general compared to a lot of places, but that place takes it to another level. My home airport is MSP but we lived in Plano for a few years in the 80s so I knew DFW from back then while dropping off or picking up dad on business trips. I had loved those bridges where the planes go over the road - neat stuff, but of course I was a kid passenger then, so hadn't noticed how nasty all of the roads were. Then a few decades ago I went down to Fort Worth a number of times over a several month period while getting a factory up and running - that first time leaving the rental car center at DFW was my very first time as a driver in Texas, and what a rude awakening it was, especially in a rental... lol The other thing I noticed when down there that I hadn't noticed as much as a kid - those roads all around but especially in the suburbs are super narrow, even the old neighborhood, where the McMansions' rooflines were almost touching. It was surreal. They really do build right up to the property line down there. :P The factory I was setting up was at Railhead, so I drove past Alliance airport every day - those roads were mostly nice wide farm-to-market (preferred industrial roads used a LOT by semi trucks etc for those not familiar with them) roads, so no issues there. :P

@jamesvazquez24913 жыл бұрын
As someone who lives in south Florida near PBI I would like that. If you want to sum it up, Miami is the largest by far and handles the overwhelming bulk of international travel to South America, Europe, and West Asia. It has massive air cargo facilities that go worldwide. FLL handles mostly domestic but does handle some routes to South America, the Caribbean, and Canada. It did have a regular route To Europe on Norwegian but that went away when covid hit. PBI the smallest of The 3 handles most flights to eastern hubs such as Newark, Charlotte, and Atlanta as well as several other east coast cities but also has fights to Hubs further west like Dallas, Houston, and Chicago. It is considered international because it does handle some flights to the Bahamas

Well, OK. This is one version. And it’s comparing apples and oranges. My family moved to Dallas in 1952, where I started first grade. Our home was just a few miles north of Love Field, on Marsh Lane, above Walnut Hill. That was Far, Far North Dallas outside the city limits. Only four houses, on the east side of Marsh Lane. Endless field from the back yard. Septic tank, butane gas tank, and artesian well for extremely hard water. We cooked/drank bottled water. Anyway, Love Field was just barely inside the city limits, if that. On the north, it’s blocked by Bachman’s Lake. And increasingly developing residential neighborhoods all around. It really had no opportunity to grow. It was locked in. Our neighbor was a Captain for Braniff Airways (he also raised ducks in the back yard. 😀). This was the pre-jet propeller days. He would sometimes comment it was increasingly stressful on final approach for Love Field, flying closer over neighborhoods and Bachman’s. Once, he was on a short-haul from DAL to Oklahoma City and one engine went out on the DC-3. He assured the passengers there was not anything to worry about. The plane can fly just fine on one engine, but it’s closer to get back to Love Field. He did successfully. It was on a late Monday morning. That’s traditional “wash day.” Moms had already hung the laundry on the line in the back yard. On final approach, Mr. Shanklin lowered the wheels, and that sprayed the entire contents of trapped engine oil from the failed engine, all over the freshly hung clothes. Legend has it that Braniff switchboard lit up like a Christmas with calls from really pissed-off North Dallas homemakers. They were NOT amused! Anyway, again, Fort Worth had it’s Amon Carter Field, not what it’s called here. Mr. Shanklin decided Dallas was growing too big and too fast. He and his family moved to a beautiful home with loads of land in Grapevine. He commuted to Love Field. And then the news hit that Grapevine will be the home of D/FW, and there goes the neighborhood! Amon Carter went to mothballs, and Love Field became a restricted regional with the Wright Amendment.

DFW airport is the most significantly developed Airport City in the world. Love Field feeds a luxury car market along Lemmon Avenue, the nearby luxury shopping centers of Highland Park, Inwood Village, Preston Center, Northpark Center, and the Galleria Dallas. Public transit sucks for both airports. I took the DART rail from DFW last time I flew in. It's a good five minute walk (in the Texas sun) north of Terminal A, which itself takes 15 minutes to traverse. The signs in Terminal A are not clear at all, and I had to ask an employee how to get to the platforms. And I'm sure it's even a bigger hassle coming from another terminal. As for Love Field, they didn't want to spend the money to actually connect the rail to the airport, so you need a shuttle bus from a nearby station.

As a former SWA employee, my heart is at Love for obvious reasons. Historic note: Love Field was where AF1 arrived with JFK the day he was assassinated and where LBJ took his Oath of office with Mrs. Kennedy standing alongside. It's curious the city leaders of Ft. Worth weren't more vocal about naming the airport Ft. Worth-Dallas International, potentially making its IATA code FWD, pronounced "Forward" instead of clunkily stating each letter.
@clayscloset2618 Жыл бұрын
Is it really that hard for you to say three letters and the same letters the Metroplex has been called for decades? And since the airport is in the middle it makes sense to go with the common nickname.
@lisasdfwhightechworld994611 ай бұрын
The Ft. Worth city leaders were very vocal about the name. Dallas and Ft. Worth city leaders had feuded for decades. Amon Carter, the Ft. Worth newspaper publisher and TV station owner, disliked Dallas so much that he always took a brown bag lunch to Dallas business meetings because he did not want to drop "one thin dime" into the Dallas economy. Ft. Worth wanted FWD, but the FAA stated that although most of the airport is in Tarrant County, Dallas was better known to the flying public and so DFW it had to be.

Love was supposed to close for commercial traffic at the same time Fort Worth Meacham Field did as part of the agreement between Dallas and Fort Worth to jointly build DFW. The Wright Amendment came about because Dallas was not honoring their side of the agreement. Love operated as a private airfield until Herb made a deal with the city. Fort Worth has since opened Alliance, a huge commercial cargo airport. Meanwhile, it's still impossible to get to Love because they can't widen Mockingbird. Add the fact that planes can't approach or depart to the west of Love because of the DFW ATC and suddenly planes are having to head towards downtown before banking. Love really shouldn't be commercial.. it's too small and the city has grown up too much around it.
@VahidMusictx Жыл бұрын
This is true. Dallas did some sucker shit by not keeping their promise.
@hrgx19815 ай бұрын
Here, let me fix some of this for you. Love was supposed to be close around the time Greater Southwest (not Meacham) when DFW opened, and all the airlines at the time agreed to move to DFW. Southwest, not being signatory and planning to only fly intrastate routes, was able to stay at Love Field following court victories. The Wright Amendment only came on the heels of airline deregulation as Southwest then wanted to fly outside of Texas from Love. Also, I've never seen planes banking to avoid downtown. Love is fine as it is now with the Wright Amendment restrictions gone. And saying it's impossible to get to Love is an exaggeration. The DFW Area can now support at least both airports. Southwest is reportedly discussing eventually taking gates at DFW, perhaps when Terminal F is built. McKinney was toying with the idea of improving their airport to attract commercial service, but voters in the city killed a bond issue last year to build a new terminal.

Southwest is the only person who didn’t sign off of this agreement and decided to stay at Love Field citing the use of intrastate air travel. Another fun fact: if Southwest wants to expand to any airport in North Texas, Southwest will lose one gate at Love Field. I live in Fort Worth and wish they would expand meacham airport. They been talking about having commercial flights for the last 10 years and nothing ever happens. Fort Worth is a beast on its own with 1 million people. So I don’t get why we share an airport with Dallas. Makes no sense to go on like this.
@Damianoutlaw5 ай бұрын
It will never happen. American Airlines is one of the largest employers based in FT Worth. Their hub is at DFW airport. AA has too much invested in DFW airport. If Meacham were to ever open to commercial traffic American Airlines would probably move to Dallas.

Loop 12 is not even remotely a highway east of I35. It's a city street with stoplights and a 35mph speed limit.

Love field for me! After 10 years of flying out of DFW I have never arrived at the same terminal I departed from. I hate that damn orange bus!

Get your car then drive to the terminal that your bag arrives.

What’s the issue with different gates or terminals? Park at a lot outside the grounds or take skylink to get to your departure and car. Or Uber or Lyft or alto there and back or get a friend etc. Not really as difficult as you think.

In spite of Founder's Plaza, DFW is too spread out for good plane spotting. Love Field is in Avery dense area, good for plane spotting. I hope you like SW B737's

@Nathan6662 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyglass170 They should have 4 as per the Wright Amendment. It stated that if the amendment was overturned, all gate ownership would return to the airlines that had them at the time of the amendment. SW had 4 gates when all the other airlines were FORCED to move operations to DFW. SW fought that tooth and nail when they wanted to overturn Wright, and, just like they were the only airline allowed to stay back then, they favored SW and didn't give back the gates to AA, Delta, United, etc.

people talk. so i'm gonna say this. love field staying open after DFW opened had nothing to do with the aviation industry. and yeah, all the aviation people just lost their shit reading that sentence. part of the agreement of opening DFW with the FAA was that love in dallas and GSW in ft. worth would close to commercial traffic. now give me just a little more rope here. the reason love did not close was due to somone's son standing up someone's daughter as a escort to a debutante' ball. someone blackballed someone from joining a country club. someone committed intercourse maximus on someone's real estate deal with the land agreement that was to become DFW. something happened somewhere. and considering the egos in texas and dallas specifically, think "what would JR do?" if you don't know who JR is i don't want to talk to you. think jerry jones on steroids. those are the types of egos we're dealing with in dallas. and that is why dallas pulled out of the deal and kept love open. i put this premise together listening to people in the oilfield talk. and as we all know, there isn't very much oil or gas in texas.............
