Former VT-EVA named Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal. Delivered October 1996. Word on the street is, VT-EVA and EVB will be flown and converted to freighters for AerSale. The other two are not airworthy and will be cannibalized at Mumbai itself.
@thompsonriverrailfan8 ай бұрын
It's been confirmed several times that EVA will be scrapped in Roswell unfortunately.
@MrBryan868 ай бұрын
They wouldn’t be converted to freighters, but cannibalised for parts. There are plenty of younger airworthy freighters stored, anyone who needs one can easier fly them out rather than convert these 747s that has sat in India for years
@gani9998 ай бұрын
@@MrBryan86 Air India's B744s have lower airframe hours and cycles than other B744s of similar age. They would still have life in the freighter market. Two of the four B744s are going to be scrapped in India, with the parts getting shipped out by containers. If they all were going to be scrapped, I don't see why they could have all not been parted out in India. There should be no reason to fly two of them to the US solely for scrapping. Unless I'm missing something.
@Mr._ag_yt18058 ай бұрын
No one is gonna be converted to freighters, VT-EVA and EVB will be flown to Roswell and will be scrapped there and other two who are not in flightworthy condition will be scrapped at BOM😢 Tata is very cruel in terms of people. They broke every indian avgeek's heart💔 these birds were easily flown for more 5-6 years
@gani9998 ай бұрын
@@Mr._ag_yt1805 Tata? What Tata? Get your facts straight please. The B744s were not transferred to the Tatas when they acquired Air India. They were retained and sold by the Indian Government.

Air India has sold these aircraft to foreign companies, which will most likely use them as freighters, for transporting cargo and other supplies over long distances. The other two Air India Boeing 747 aircraft will be disassembled in Mumbai for its parts. The process is conducted to extend the lifecycle of the aircraft and reuse their parts as spare or scrap metal.
@RoParky8 ай бұрын
It's headed to Roswell, New Mexico and will either be sold as parts, or converted to a cargo plane!

I wasn't a fan of anything Indian but always thought the old discontinued livery of Air India was the BEST in the world. It was as if the 747 was specifically built for it. I always say dont mend something which is not broken but the Indian govt feels to mend something till its broken and thats how we wind up with the present pedestrian livery.
@rajr10328 ай бұрын
Air India is back in the hands of the Tata conglomerate, its predecessor, Air India International was founded in 1948 by late JRD Tata who was also one of its first pilots.
