They should change the rule so that when outside of the circle you must do one of the following: 1. Be in contact with your lie when you release the disc with no supporting points in front of your lie or 2. Your last point of contact with the ground before your release the disc must be your lie. If you jump from that and release the disc before you land that’s fine. This makes it easier to call and allows players some more creativity when faced with difficult lies. If we need to increase the size of the circle a few meters that’s fine too.

Why not have a machine throw disks at baskets in a defined pattern hitting different parts of the basket accounting for variables: speed, wind, spin, nose angle, distance, plastic, hyzer angle, and whatever else. Use a computer analyzing the video to record where the disc hit and if it falls in the basket. Compile this data for all basket types. Then, decide what are acceptable catch rates for different variables. Any basket that exceeds those defined rates passes. This would develop a set of data that is much easier to make decisions on, rather than a few professionals hucking 10 discs at a basket and calling it good or not. This might be a dream. But it could become a reality pretty easily and quickly. Perhaps not terribly cheaply. Simon Lizotte's friend already has a robot to throw discs fairly reliably. Add an auto-load, a video camera, and some software to record the data and calculate the scores. At the least, we would have a heat map of best spot to hit a given basket type given my putting style from a particular distance. And we would know what putting styles work the best in which conditions. Basket designers could use this data and the system to design better baskets. Just sayin'. This could be really useful information for a variety of consumers.

I'm pretty sure that's why it's filmed. They will count how many putts at which angles stick, and based on that define a percentage that reasonably should stick. They can also sort out any outliers, like if everyone makes 98% of their putts, but Gannon only makes 50%, then that's a Gannon issue, not a basket issue. The way I see Jump Putts is like this... Try to throw anything while both feet are off the ground. It is certainly harder and less accurate than one or both feet being grounded. Essentially a jump putt while both feet are off the ground makes it a harder shot. Yeah, you "foot faulted", but you also made the shot harder on yourself and shouldnt be penalized for it. Idk. Just my 2 cents on that matter. As far as Step Putts go tho, very different. If you release your putt when the step-foot/forward foot touches ground, that should 100% be called. Reason being, in that scenario, you are now multiple feet closer to the target upon release, clearly giving you an advantage. Foot faults, on drives NOT putts shouldnt be called either if your foot slightly touches the marker. Seems really petty. On putts sure, but not on drives or approaches. Unless you're totally on, or past your marker, its giving you zero advantage to be slightly touching the disc. If anything its changing your footing slightly by steping on the back edge of your marker. Maybe actually a slight disadvantage to you. Seriously, who even watches their feet during an X Step? A couple millimeters onto your marker is petty as hell. What do I know tho? Ive only been playing 2 years now. Just sharing my opinion. I will say this again however, having thrown things all my life, I can 100% say that throwing anything while both feet are off the ground offers zero advantage. You actually lose power and accuracy by being in the air upon release. If it were the other way around, we'd all being throwing Tee shots while jumping into the air. If you have to slow-mo or pause a video to notice it, its probably petty bs.
