For those just tuning in, this video is still very helpful in 2024 🤓

Thank you for making this. I've owned the clock for years but hardly ever play OTB and never learned the clock properly. I'm recently playing more, casual OTB. The modes on the bottom of the clock require a good magnifying glass. I googled for the manual and there's a "photocopy" PDF out there but it's a mess. This video helps me a great deal although it still wasn't 100% clear to me about setting the increments. At this point I mostly want to play blitz, or "slow blitz", or "fast rapid", so I want to easily get to 5+0, 3+2, 5+5, 10+5, things of this nature. So, it doesn't matter which setting "slot" I use? Whichever I use, it will be saved in memory, yes? So if I let someone use the clock, and I get it back, it could be set to anything in each "slot", right? I wonder if there might be a more suitable clock, simpler to set.(?)

What are the differences between the DGT 2010 and the DGT XL chess clocks?
@cdblues20007 жыл бұрын
In the Manual time controls (ie 02) why does the white clock start immediately when pressing the start/pause button instead of waiting for white to press the lever? Should it work like the pre-set timers (ie 01, 5:00) the white clock doesn't run immediately so the black clock doesn't start until white hits their lever after their first move.
@Wholesalechess7 жыл бұрын
Hi! That is a question you should ask DGT - only DGT can tell you for sure if that's what the clock is supposed to do. You can contact them on their website. www.digitalgametechnology.com/index.php/support1?mavikthumbnails_display_ratio=1.25

charles dixon I believe it’s because in Chess rules, white always starts first. So it simply starts the timer right away for white.

How i can make a hard reset if the clock only show a number one
@Wholesalechess6 жыл бұрын
You can do a hard reset on the clock by removing the batteries, waiting for a minute or two, and then putting them back in.

There are several pre-programmed options that say "move free" e.g. #17 "5 min + 2 sec/move free". What does "move free" mean? I cannot find that term explained in the manual. Thanks!
@blurr1903 Жыл бұрын
I’m sure you already figured this out, but it means delay, unlike bonus time, delay does not add to your total time but simply gives you extra time at the very beginning of your move

Yes, the XL is definitely a better clock than the 2010, but there aren't many major differences. Controlling the DGT e-boards is the biggest improvement the XL makes over the 2010.

Is it possible to configure a 2 hours for the first 40 moves time control on this clock? Because I don't think there is, and that is very disappointing because 40/2 is one of the most common time settings used in tournaments.What makes it worse is that such a disability with the clock was never mentioned in any review, and as I mentioned already, that's very important information to be aware of before one buys a $45 clock, and it's terrible for somebody to leave it out.

It is definitely possible to use 40/2 on this clock.

Wholesale Chess Ok well then how do I do it? I have a tournament coming up in a month with time controls 30/60, SD/30; d5, and of course 30/60 is 30 moves in 60 minutes, which is the same concept as 40 moves in 2 hours. I know how to set the clock to multiple time controls with delay, but the manual says that the 2nd time control starts when the time in the first control runs out, and it specifically says the 2nd time control does NOT start after the first 40 moves. So would you please explain to me how I can set the clock up for 30 moves in the first hour, please?
@Wholesalechess9 жыл бұрын
Greer Fried I see. I misunderstood your question. Generally speaking, the number of moves is counted only so you aren't penalized time-wise as long as you play that number of moves in the allotted time, but the sudden death time is independent of that. We recommend you contact DGT for more help on using the clock (they would know better than we would): support@dgtprojects.com
@manuelgarzahernandez96058 жыл бұрын
+Greer Fried Its posible to configure 2 times, but you will be counting the moves because in a tournament every player writes on paper the moves of the game. So you ll see if reaching the 40th move, or before that one player has spent his time.
@BauerMan246 жыл бұрын
Hey I have a tourney coming up in two weeks and this video reminded me of option 3 which is 2 hours followed by 30 min sudden death (the number of moves does not need to be programmed into the clock because the time will be added after the initial time runs out) if the player runs out of time before move 30 or 40 then the time added is irrelevant and you call clock on your opponent. However my tourney says 120/40 SD 30 d10 so how do I add the 10 second delay? Is the 10 seconds only applicable to sudden death? This clock has a standard 5 second delay

Is there a quick way to start on the manual mode without having to run through all the digits of your previous setting? I like how it saves your previous manual times but you should be able to quick start it from there. Am I missing something?
@johannwilder14378 жыл бұрын
Ok just to correct myself and not take any business away from a GREAT product, I figured it out. You CAN do a quick start up from a previous manual setting. Look at comments below. Somebody explains it. Great product, DGT!

If I edit one of the manual options (for instance, option 4) and I play a game, is there a faster way to reset the clock to the exact same time setting without turning it on and off then pressing the check button through all the settings again?
@michaelstevens957110 жыл бұрын
You can press on/off twice to turn it off and back on, when program 04 is displayed, press check, and the press the play/pause button before moving through any settings. So basically to reset after a game, it's four presses, on/off (2 times) -> check -> play/pause

@johnh5259 Жыл бұрын
The so-called "instructions" are absolutely HORRIBLE. Are the people at DGT completely unaware that many U.S. tournaments have a time control with a delay? I have spent well over an hour trying to set "G/45, inc 10" and the closest I can get is G/45 with a 45 second delay, even after I tried very hard to set the delay at 10 (and it was displayed as 10). I would gladly pay more for a clock that is made in America and has a numeric keypad, along with a manual written in clear English.
