I was born and raised in one of the most , if not the only religiously diverse country in the world. Let me give you a hint. It's in the Balkans. We had Jews, Muslims, Christian Catholics and Orthodox living in peace for generations and still continue to today. I have no religious bias at all. I can tell you with absolute certainty that the Arabic influence in the Balkan music, which came via the Ottoman 'Empire is an absolute beauty. It also influenced Spanish music as well, it's called Flamenco. It gave Spanish music a soul. There are sounds in the eastern world that the western world can never comprehend. The emotion in this guy's voice is like a message from the distant past. it is the eternal human condition of being lost and yarning for purpose in this world. Rumi believed that the Nay was the instrument which God used to communicate subliminal messages to humans to make them feel and make them humbled. The sound coming out of this guys mouth is nothing short of Devine intervention. Victor Hugo said: 'Music is that which cannot remain silent and cannot be expressed by words".

Kurt K you are right if they didnt have guitar the rest would be too orientalist and i wouldnt endure the concert. Another funny thing when the guitarist started to play i said to my friend this guy must be from norht because of his style and when i turned back to home i learned he was eivind aarset and i was already following him in spotify and he is also a big parcitipant in a hell amount of my favourite jazz albums. I just found out about this masterpiece most random ever. I was with my girlfriend in my car and I was looking at her while she was telling me something. Something made me look the other way and when I looked in the opposite direction I saw a poster announcing Dhafer Youssef's performance in the concert hall where I live. Luckily I searched it and played this performance. Me and my girlfriend are going to their concert soon. Can't wait.

It doesn't matter where are your from, what you pray to or if you even do it: this is mystical.
@hossamismail4683
@hossamismail4683 8 жыл бұрын
It does matter as music generates from cultures. Music depends mainly on two things; senses and emotions and those are massively affected by culture and the surround environment. So it does matter where you from and what you believe in and what you yourself are and feel. Music is an undefined language that can only be translated by cultures. Example is take this piece and try perform it with different genres it will sound completely different and you will enjoy some of it while the others not as much.
@g.eguibar4258
@g.eguibar4258 8 жыл бұрын
Hossam Ismail Culture magnifies the exposure to some artistic expression, and the emotional relation associated with it; also, it can be developed. This theme doesn't hide any culturally concrete sense of the world except its own style (what can be translated into formal caracteristics), but possesses the inherent particulars to unchain an afective reaction in the audience. Music genres are a different thing. Cultures have their own way to conceive the same genres. In addition, a composition could not be interpretated in other genres for the simple reason that it's made in a defined musical languaje to conserve its aesthetic, formal and technical qualities. However armony can be percibed by anybody who has had some kind of relation with music, in a general sense. Sensibility is cultural, but not only cultural, and in this was based my last commentary. Regards from Spain.

Absolutely magical and transcendent. Amazing is that moment at 5:41 when Dhafer tries to get closer to the clarinet player, realises his lead is too short, grimaces at 5:45 in slight frustration, then accepts it as part of the here and now, and goes straight back into the 'zone.'

Just discovered this today, not many words to describe, other than beautiful. If I had to describe this to a friend I would call it transcendental middle eastern jazz blues, emphasis on the "transcendental" part. Truly healing music

Quelle transcendance... Quelles sensations.. Quelle beauté.. Quelle bonté.. Amour et paix pour chacun. Infinie gratitude. Such a song and music are a kind of link for hearts worldwide. No borders,no languages can stop the feelings,sensations of souls.

Dhafer, my deepest respect for this three musicians master piece. Beeing a life long musician I could cry out of pure pleasure when ever I come back to listen to it. I d like to already now invite you to play at my funeral in appr. 50 years. Beeing a 1500 shows FOH-sound-engineer I panic everytime when I see your jack cable nearly popping out. This creates so much extra tension, even though I know it wont. Seeing how you wanna get closer to your co-musician but cant cause the cable is too short makes it even better. PS. I also appreciate very much the way you mention your sound crew in the other concert video!
