Dhamal in Shah Jamal : Sufi whirling

Dervishes go into trance at Shah Jamal Sufi shrine in Lahore during Thursday night ceremony. The drummers are famous Sain brothers.
The form of expression for fakirs and dervishes from radical, "drunken" sects in Pakistan is a trance called dhamal. There is a lot to say about it, but as all mystical experiences, not only of Sufi tradition, it transcends words, what is the core experience is not only unspoken of, out of fear of persecution, but perhaps unspeakable. This is why they dance. They dance in abandonment of their own ego, leaving self, this bondage of historical moment, unifying with the saints that lived long ago, but in another sense are always present, and ultimately, unifying with divine. As travelers on the spiritual path to God seeking 'unio mystica', trance is for them crossing a threshold between this world and the next, and thus a ritual of transcendence.

Dargah in Ichra Lahore, when he Grew old and Could not Perform any More Papoo sain was Given the Role of Official DRUMMER at Dargah saheb after a dastaar Bandi,,,Goonga Sain and Mithu Sain are also from the Un written school of Drummers,, where they Become Spirituel as well as Physical Students of a TEACHER,, in real Classical and Traditional way, May His soul rest in PEACE,, they have Brought Fame to Pakistan all over the WORLD,,,and these recordings are an Evidence that MUSIC never dies,,FORTUNATELY YES i saw the Original Funeral news on the net..when drummers were accompanying him on his last Journey a Month ago,, what a way to go, Just sheer Devotion and Dedication,,he was a real Mulang, and went into trance to become a Whirling dervish while drumming in a state that he Practiced with Papu Sain,having seen them so many Times at Baba Shah Jamal R.A. shrine,,All the best Sain Jee,,All the best,, ,,

Many foreign tourists visiting Lahore listened to Sufi Dhole at Baba Shah Jamal on Thursday. That was Gunga Sain's Dhole performance. Gunga Sain fascinated many people. He was a really nice person. It was like an angel to me. It's sad, it's too early. Gunga Sain ji Thank you. We are proud to have spent time with you.
