I work with kids with disabilities in my classes at school and I feel bad for how some kids and adults treat them. They don't deserve any of it and it's not their fault for having the disabilities. Some even turn out to be smarter than "normal" kids or adults! Thank you Dhar Mann for making videos like these to show how some may get treated! Edit: Thank you commenting and everything and to the people that have commented about being disabled in a way, I would like to say hang in there and you will find a lot of people who respect and love you guys! Love you!

My oldest daughter has an IEP and struggles with math but she does her absolute best . To everyone out there who has an learning disability, keep going and don't give up no matter how difficult it is! You can do anything that everyone else can if you set your mind on something! I'm on the autism spectrum, learning was often a slow process for me. In middle and high school, I had a separate teacher who would pull us aside for tests and reviews and such. That actually made classes more fun. Also, in 6th grade, I really struggled with the unit tests and I got Fs on 3 or 4 consecutive tests. (In that school, they were Es.) Anyways, one unit I studied harder and took the test. My teacher e-mailed my Mom and she came home and sternly told me that the teacher graded my test. Then she lightened up and told me that I got a B+ on the test. That's probably the test that kept me from flunking. :)

I really love this video. I grew up with a learning disability so I learned and completed assignments at my own pace and sometimes needed more time than others completing them and had reading comprehension problems. I really loved what the teacher did with the student about giving him challenges and then explained three of the most common learning disorders/disabilities that is common in some students who learn differently/at their own pace. For a while, I've been feeling like im not as smart or intellectual as others and it could be due to the fact that I grew up with a learning disability and it takes time for me to understand and gain knowledge on topics. this video helped me to understand that I am smart just like anyone else. I am just intellectual and smart in my own way and that is okay. I used to not to want to engage in intellectual conversations because of this. But I realized that I just need to do more research, reading, listen to videos, podcasts, documentaries more than once sometimes. "We are uniquely smart in our way and learn and complete assignments and tasks at our own pace and that's okay".

I’ve actually been hoping a video like this would be posted because I have always had ADHD and was finally diagnosed with it at age 4 and for me it’s hard to stay sitting still a whole class or pay attention to something without getting distracted. And when I was younger I did find that with reading and writing I will get distracted from my school work just to do that which in a way can be helpful because I’m still learning just in my own way but it doesn’t help when kids are talking so loudly next to me or throwing crumpled up paper balls when I’m trying to either do my school work or read and write.

Yes! It's so hard to focus on your schoolwork when there are a thousand conversations going on, cause while you know you should pay attention to it and not to the conversations, your brain sometimes goes "nope! Sounds more interesting to listen in than to work" and as much as you try to focus, you just can't. Or when you're hyperfocused, you sometimes get people mad at you or yelled at because you weren't paying attention to what they were saying. I have ADHD but I found out recently. Now I know it's not my fault, but I used to get mad at myself for these things

I really love watching this video! I can relate to this considering the fact that I have autism and I went through at lot during my childhood. You see, I was unable to talk until I was like 3 or so, participate in some autistic academic programs that make me transfer to different schools, got regular visits with a speech therapist, go to an school speech pathologist to improve my verbal communication skills, etc. Now, thanks to all of this, I can talk regularly and understand things clearly (most of the time). So you see, everyone (including those with disablities) has their own speed when it comes to this kind of thing.

I feel grateful for not being in an American high school or in America for that matter because there's way too much bullying and I don't know how people can cope with it. It is absolutely what it said. I don't have normal dyslexia thankfully, so my reading skills are pretty damn good, but I am also what is known as a speed reader, and when I do read I take whole groups of words and somehow make them into the full sentences without reading every single letter at a time. Still take it all in as well. The only drawback for me with this method of writing is I go into full concentration mode so once I'm in there and someone talks to me, I either don't hear them or I jump outta my skin!!

I believe you can do a great video on it.

Once in 3rd grade, a really popular and rich girl who hated me tackled me to the ground while the teacher wasn't in class. She grabbed my neck and knowing I have bad asthma (it gets triggered when I'm stressed), she grabbed my neck and strangled me. Obviously I got stressed, and I began to have difficulties breathing. The girl's friends took my inhaler and hid it. Some other friends took a knife and cut me very deep about twenty five times. Our teacher then returned and separated us and I was sent to the principal's office. The teacher told the principal I strangled the 'poor girl' because she had won a race in P.E.(I couldn't participate because of my asthma). I was suspended and grounded for 2 years. I had to transfer schools and apologize to the girls in front of the whole school for intensely bullying and traumatizing them. I still have scars from this incident. The witnesses spoke against me. Everyone bullied me at that school even the teachers, so no one believed my side of the story. Also, I got hospitalized for this attack.

I was diagnosed with a learning disability when I was a child, no one realized it, no one picked up on it until I was in the 3rd or 4th grade, even being in special classes I still had problems. My mother along with the teachers thought I was being lazy. Not giving my age I still have a learning disability. As the years went on I taught myself how to read much better than I did as a kid. One day I picked up a book and began to read it, I ended up loving the book, I only don't have problems with reading but math as well. I have come along way, I am now writing a tell all book. I know that I'm going to have someone proof read to help me do some cleanup, but I'm ok with that. I'm proud of myself. I know if I could come this far, anyone can. He ended up having the same teacher and she was really good at working with children that had learning disabilities. I never had this woman as a teacher but she was awesome. Probably one of the best teachers in thAt taught 3rd grade. I wish I had her. She didn’t let anyone pick on him. He continued being in different classes even when we got to high school. There was one girl I used to be friends with made fun of him. The strange part was she used to take some of the same classes that he did when we were younger but was able to work through it when she got older. I reminded her of that whenever she would pick on him. She never talked to me that much once I reminded her of that. She knew she was dead wrong for what she did.

As bad as it feels to say, sometimes Im glad I can mask my neurodiversity, it hurts to think of it like that… but I can’t help it. Also random side note, so you know how us dyslexics sound out words when we’re reading? Kinda like there’s a small voice in the back of our head? WELL I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THAT’S NOT HOW NEUROTYPICAL PEOPLE READ! Apparently they just look at it and sorta know the word, like they’ve memorised it? As someone who has a learning disability this video resonated with me on a extremely deep emotional level. I struggled a lot all throughout my school years, especially Elementary and high school. Elementary was pretty difficult high school was even more difficult I had a extremely difficult time understanding what my teachers were teaching the class and unfortunately a lot of my teachers were not very understanding of this and they were quite frankly disrespectful and absolutely disgusting about how they reacted to my difficulty understanding certain topics. They just simply did not care. I can only hope that nowadays most people are less ignorant about people with learning disabilities and more kind and understanding towards those individuals. I know school districts have a long way to go in terms of dealing with people with learning disabilities but I feel like nowadays schools are definitely improving on this issue. It’s more acknowledged and talked about then it was when I was in school which was a long time ago as I’m currently 26. Of course I didn’t struggle with all topics we learned in school I have always been good at reading and writing so those were always my strongest suits. Math and science was probably the most difficult for me. I am glad to say that while a good majority of my teachers we’re pretty awful I did have at least a few teachers that were kind and caring I remember really liking one of my reading teachers she was fun and just a bright enjoyable person to be at around she taught me a lot about writing and how to best writer you can be I think because of her that’s why I’m such a good writer. I don’t wanna toot my own horn but she definitely is the reason I love and enjoy writing she’s one of the reasons anyways. I had a really cool art teacher as well. Great Dhar Mann episode as always.

Wow Dhar thanks for highlighting all this. Goes to show that just because people who have learning disabilities doesn't make them different than those who are fine. They just do things differently and are unique in who they are. That's what makes them special. All these characteristics combined with character is what makes us human. Thanks for taking these into consideration Dhar. Also shout out to Colin the Teacher. Pulled that performance out very well. The fact that the meaning of revenge from their perspective means to let them know how it feels to be put in the situation the same way as how they were going through, that too in a neat way was good to watch. Goes to show that you never know what a person is going through unless you are put into their shoes is a great message Dhar.

I relate to this a little too well, I’ve never been bullied however I have been the “dumb one” my whole life. I always felt looked down at by my peers and friends and especially in group work, other kids never really gave me a chance because I never knew the answers, I never was able to pay attention very well in class so I missed most of the material, and therefore was often useless in school. I’ve always had a hard time feeling confident and especially during my childhood days back in elementary school before I was even diagnosed with ADD, I always wondered what was wrong with me and why I can’t do things as easily as other people. I always needed extra help on everything. Now as a junior in high school, I understand better now what my issue is and that a lot of people struggle with it too. I still feel really insecure sometimes though, and I still have bad self esteem when it comes to academics. I’ve had friends who have also looked down on me even during my high school career. They will criticize me for being behind in school and will think that I’m irresponsible and a burnout but they don’t know the whole story. I think we need to try not to judge each other. I believe that people who show effort and try their best that’s all that matters. I understand that some people find dealing with people with learning disabilities annoying because they need extra help sometimes or accommodations but we should never put each other down for those things!

I relate to this so much as I too have a learning disability. If you mind I’d like to talk about my past for a moment. So all throughout my life ever since I was born I’ve always struggled to learn and grasp things properly, in a sense I guess you could say that I’m a slow learner. But anyways because of this I always got bad grades in elementary school and middle school even now I’m high school. Also when I was in middle school I remember I had to be put in smaller classes so I could get extra help and I saw myself as stupid because I had to be put in these small classes, I was a freak who wasn’t like everyone else. Kids even made fun of me and bullied me for having a learning disability. I remember I became a reject in middle school and no one wanted to be my friend at all. I remember I began to question whether I was really intelligent or if I was stupid. Things really got bad when I was in 8th grade, I had a math teacher in 8th grade who put me in the very back of her class so she didn’t have to help me. Whenever I’d raise my hand for help she’d always avoid me and she always treated me so badly. She constantly made me feel stupid. Whenever she would come to “help” me she’d just bash me and ask me why I couldn’t learn like everyone else. Because of her I became depressed and combined with being bullied I became even more depressed. I remember almost every day I’d come home and cry because I began to tell myself that I was stupid, that I couldn’t learn and that I was a failure. I remember one particular day my mom had just picked me up from school and I broke down in the car and asked her “am I stupid?” She of course told me I wasn’t but that didn’t help as the self hatred and self loathing had already taken over my mind. Even now I have all F’s in junior year of high school because I have lost literally all motivation to do work because I still struggle with depression and still hate myself. I wish I never grew up in such a horrible school environment because if I didn’t I wouldn’t be hating myself now and I wouldn’t be depressed. At this point I think my only option for success is to get my GED and dip and leave school. 😒😔

This is one of the best stories of Dhar Mann. So educational for me and I’m sure for many. Society is clueless about what these genius minds are going through in their day to day and needs more awareness and education. So great for teachers like that who bring light in the dark. I often think how basic we are compared to people like Andre. We need to be educated not about how to treat these people but rather what they feel. Special Ed classes should be banned. These are just boxes to put people in and label them as “disabled” I’ve never heard these genius minds be called “people with different ability” unfortunately, they’re labeled as “disabled” 😞 and they go in life thinking of themselves as such. Dhar Mann please make more educational videos like this. More stories where the viewer can see what people experience. Thank you 🙏🏼
