Frankly one of the finest movies made in Hindi. Look at the camera work. It is so subtle, and far more innovative than what filmmakers do today. The lyrics - ah Shailendra was the finest wordsmith that anyone has ever written for movies. Music - the debut song of Salil Choudhury. By the way, the film was an adaptation of his short story. I can watch this movie a hundred times. This song, a thousand. A few more facts - throughout the shooting and from a few months before, Balraj Sahni ate half his diet so that he would always be hungry to portray the character well. To get into the character, he disguised himself as a rickshaw wallah and actually pulled a rickshaw. Nirupa Roy did the whole movie in one Sari, which she was not allowed to wash. I can go on and on and on. Salil Chowdhury was inspired to write this strory because he was a freedom fighter and the British were looking for him. So he ran away and lived in the remote villages, moving from village to village. This is based on what he saw.

Leave behind your Story Or a small Legacy Who know this path again You may travel or not Sacred Games may have used the song to make it feel retro or cool but looking at the original fills you with a bit of sadness and pride at the same time. The farmers are living a poor existence but still try to smile, laugh and philosophize even. Even though they cannot afford a full set of clothes, they are brave enough to talk about leaving a legacy ("Kuch to nishaani chhod ja .... ") ! "Do Bigha zameen" truly captured the farmer's soul of India at that time.
