DISCLAIMER: these are just my thoughts, some of them might only be disturbing based on how i interpreted them, so just take this selection with a grain of salt
had to bust out the oldies for this one, which made me realize that the new season is actually not that disturbing (other than the family episode bc i HATE the family episode i HATE the twins oh my GOD) also this one isn't censored and i'm not planning on making a censored version bc like,,,, that's the whole point. anyway, please enjoy my dears! :)

The entire “eating healthy” episode is so fucking creepy. I think what really gets to me is the idea that the duck can tell he’s in a catatonic state but can’t do anything about it, even as he’s being eaten alive and can fully feel it.

I wonder if Joe and Becky will insert themselves into the series as the actual masterminds. That would be cool.
@BOZMINE
@BOZMINE Жыл бұрын
My theory is that Roy controls the teachers and side characters, working in the Red Guy World from the end of episode 6 because he knows it's impossible for Yellow to find him there, and Lesley controls the main trio, big boys, and bigger boys. Does anybody control Roy? Who knows. Who controls Lesley? Who knows. I'd find it really cool if, like the reply above suggested, it was a self insert of Joe and Becky controlling everything like the true masterminds. But I guess we'll never know who's behind it all. (Unless they make another season and reveal it then... PLEASE???? PRETTY PLEASE?????)

The cannibalism scene in DHMIS 5 is the most visually disturbing, but if we’re being honest, the most disturbing thing in this show (to me) is the second act of DHMIS 6. I see the whole bit with Red Guy as a reflection of life, an endless stairwell of moonlit light and and endless flood of people who are all the same. Red Guy stands out among them, with personal dreams, and not only that, but creativity as well. Watching this man suffer from missing his friends (unless you believe the MatPat theory, then this statement isn’t true) and the trauma from episodes 1-4 is just so outright disturbing to me. Watching an isolated person try to open up and express himself before being booed off the stage for being himself is way too real for me. I both love it so much and am deeply disturbed by it.
@abhainnxv1554

Honestly I never really bought the whole "this scene is actually a flashback", mostly because MatPat gave *no* evidence that this was true.
@pinkdruid2347
@pinkdruid2347 Жыл бұрын
As disturbing as it is, I honestly love your interpretation of Red Guy as a character. It kind of makes his monotone voice make sense in a way. Like think about it. At first it seems like it’s just for humour, or to add to the unsettling tone of the show. But Red Guy speaks the least like a cartoon character and the most like just a normal person. And he’s very soft-spoken naturally. He reminds me of just kind of a shy and somewhat moody teenager or like maybe mid 20 year old at times. I like the idea of Red Guy as representative of a person who has a desire for freedom, creativity, and self-expression but who feels trapped. In the show it’s the house and the world they live I that’s trapping him. But I think in a metaphorical sense, he may feel trapped in his own mind and body. Or by society. He wants to express himself but he struggles with showing and understanding emotions and relating to other people. He acts moody and like he doesn’t care, but he’s so happy when he thinks he has a family, he clearly does have a desire to belong and to have good relationships. It’s very relatable tbh.
@TheGuy10111
@TheGuy10111 Жыл бұрын
@@abhainnxv1554 If he needs proof that his theory is wrong, he needs to rewatch the karaoke bar scene. Notice that Red Guy ‘forgets’ one line of the creativity song when singing it: his own. He takes a pause after saying “I use my hair to express myself”, and then repeats it again. He’s moved on as a person, and realized that maybe creativity is the answer.
@TheGuy10111
@TheGuy10111 Жыл бұрын
@@pinkdruid2347 I’ve actually avoided theories about the new show just so I can kept pointing this out: I have a theory about the ‘Transport’ episode. Yellow Guy is too dumb to remember things, and if we’re being honest, the only thing he remembered was eating Duck since it was so traumatizing. “Then why doesn’t he remember DHMIS 6?” Because we see him slowly degrade himself at the end of DHMIS 6, with his eyes bleeding and his hair leaving, it makes some sense he would’ve forgotten. We’re supposed to believe that Lesley resets everything at the end of every episode, but there’s one thing: what about Red Guy? If we’re being honest, I think he remembers 1-6. “Then why does he go along with the terrible stuff?” Because it doesn’t hurt him. In ‘Jobs’, he gets his job as the boss of a company. He’s elevated from being treated like nothing as a simple worker in DHMIS 6, and he likes that. In ‘Death’, his friend dies, but he knows he can’t stop that. However, he misses him and is trying to get a replacement because so. As long as there’s three of them, he’s happy. In ‘Family’, he meets his family again, and is happy. But that’s the turning point for him: remembering DHMIS 6. He sees his own kind isolate him again, and is brought back home. ‘Friendship’, his anger can be seen. He yells “We live in an actual *NIGHTMARE* ”, and swears towards his friend. He’s frustrated with whoever’s controlling this, and wants it to stop because he KNOWS it’s wrong. And then, ‘Transport’. Red Guy just seems like he’s bored when he talks about wanting to get out of the house, and claims he’s ‘happy’ when he’s showing no emotion, but he honestly is. After DHMIS 4, he’s realized what his friends meant to him, because he left them to be brainwashed as he stepped into the real world. He regretted that since he COULDN’T save them, and ended up being the outcast from society. But now that he’s back with them, he can save them. He’s trying to desperately escape because he wants his friends safe. He knows the ‘guy on the road’ was Roy, which is why he throws him out so angrily. Red Guy just wants his friends to be safe, and with that, he screams about it. He’s probably even crying at the end. He says that “We’re so close”, but close to what? Close to escaping. And because of Lesley’s anger, she wipes everything from his mind. He doesn’t recognize Tony, or Roy, or the Briefcase for a moment. That’s the beauty of Red Guy. As a character, he evolves. Sometimes in the wrong way, but often in the right ones.

I saw it as kind of a gentle admission that the things they're satirizing aren't that bad. In episode 1 we're meant to understand that children's television is stupid, inane, and harmful, but episode 6 is an admission that everyday life is even worse than that, and any attempt to create something, even if it's inane, can be an escape from the nightmare of life.

Rewatching the older series alot of what disturbed me back then now feels tame, probs cause of how desensitised to disturbing things I grew to be. The original DHMIS did a good job at capturing a very sudden, unnerving feeling that slowly ebbs into dread. The scene where Red Guy is being overwhelmed by the computer, but it's a wide shot of the dark, still room around him was a really good representation of how I felt as a kid accidentally clicking on something disturbing in my grandparents house at night, when I knew I shouldn't be on the computer anyway. Or when theres ever something bad happening, the "teachers" will always insist as though it's fine (casually saying "looks like someone's having a bad dream," how the meat guy continues his song without listening to Duck and Yellow Guy objecting the whole time, or even just the notepad firmly repeating "I use my hair to express myself" when Red expressed his opinion) which is a good way of showing how it feels when you're undergoing mental abuse/neglect and everyone around you either is inflicting it or cannot see it so they all discount any time you speak out and assure you that being treated that way and feeling that way is totally normal to every person, basically gaslighting you into thinking you're crazy for being able to see something is wrong.

i absolutely love that we can assume these two shows take place in the same universe/are the same show, any negative feelings i have about either can be balanced out by the other. season one's visceral claustrophobia and body horror balance out perfectly with season two's existentialism and devastatingly powerful story

The fact that yellow guy was assumed to have eaten duck FORCEFULLY is so fucking scary to me. He didnt even know it was him. His friend that lived with him. Left alone in a dark void to just think about what he has done. No one around but him. Not even the teachers. No one to explain it. Just him. He had eaten his friends without him knowing. All those moments of them being brutally murdered flashing to him in realization was even more scary before him knowing the horrors of what he did.

imo the creepiest parts of the show arent the gore, but the unsettling settings. its all just very slightly off from being comforting. like the factory episode, the factory looked so _incredibly_ scary to me.

i first watched dhmis when i was about 10 i think? i have always come back to it and love it and when the tv series came out on channel 4 i SCREAMED. the way they captured the same eeriness and disturbing vibe without being totally different makes me so happy and love dhmis so much more.

5:04 Yellow didint eat duck on purpose. The steak guy / Spinach can forced him too. It’s more sad than disturbing. As yellow stands there is shock and fear. You can tell how scared he looks and I wanted to cry. Yellow would never purposely eat someone. He cares for duck so much, he tried digging up his grave. I fricking love this little dude.

No joke, 0:33 scared me more than anything else in the series. The setting was already super unsettling, and him running _towards_ the camera makes it seems like he's chasing you. Which makes it all the scarier that he's running _away_ from something chanting "help me." Particularly when episode 5 of the YT series is arguably the scariest one, for _Steak Guy_ to be terrified of something is a horrific sign.

I thought the telephone ringing in 5 was hilarious, it’s almost like the creators are saying, “haha these people are scared by almost anything, watch this.” All the other horror bits in that episode were genuinely terrifying though to make up for it.

4:42 This is one of my favorite parts in the series. The singing to shrieking is so good and creepy at the same time. It's part of why the healthy episode is one of my favorites because it does a great job genuinely freaking me out unlike the other ones, minus the family episode cause that one was messed up too. *you shouldn't eat food from a strangers plate :)*
