Traditionally, advocates of nutrition for health maintain that with the right diet, medicine isn’t necessary-in other words, food is superior to medicine. Traditional advocates of medicine, by contrast, believe nutrition takes a back seat to medicine, which is all-powerful.
A growing body of data says both sides are wrong and that food and medicine can work together harmoniously, each enhancing the value of the other.
Today on The Dhru Purohit Podcast, Dhru talks with Dr. William Li about how food has the ability to combat and prevent things like cancer, cardiovascular disease, inflammation, and illness. They also discuss how certain foods can positively impact the effectiveness of medicine.
Dr. Li is a world-renowned physician, scientist, speaker, and author of Eat to Beat Disease-The New Science of How Your Body Can Heal Itself. He is best known for leading the Angiogenesis Foundation. His groundbreaking work has had an impact on more than 70 diseases, including cancer, diabetes, blindness, heart disease, and obesity. His TED Talk, Can We Eat to Starve Cancer?, has garnered more than 11 million views, and he has appeared on The Dr. Oz Show, Martha Stewart Live, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, and Voice of America, and he has presented at the Vatican’s Unite to Cure conference. An author of over 100 scientific publications in leading journals such as Science, the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and more, Dr. Li has served on the faculties of Harvard, Tufts, and Dartmouth Medical School.

Thank you for the list. Shopped for kiwis the other day and bought a couple, they were $1.00 each. One post I read said that Indian gooseberries are even more benefitial. My mother grew them in her UK garden, and we often had gooseberry pies. I have not seen them in the US. I have also realized that many gourmet coffees are organic, even though they do not say they are on the label, but if you go to the manufacturer's website, it tells you that they are. I do my best to only eat anti-cancer foods to help decrease by risk of Endometrial Cancer recurrence, along with removing other toxins from my environment and exercising. Joining a meditation group is next. I find eating this way is simple to do, and am confident this will make a huge difference to my longevity. I am confident that after hysterectomy surgery, and vaginal vault brachytherapy which was estimated to have decreased my risk to 10%, that I will be able to reduce that percentage even further. Both my Oncologists are supportive of my efforts.

My daughter got covid and I pumped her full of foods that Dr. Li recommended. She tested negative 4 days later. Her mild covid symptoms like headache, sore throat def improved within a couple of days. We kept safe. Still isolated, but so pleased that we can use food to stay healthy.

It is now known that isolation was bad for us. We need to have fresh air and use our immune systems which have worked to beat germs and viruses since we were born. This is the healthy way. Masks were worse than useless and would not keep out germs and viruses but make us inhale into our lungs what we should be breathing out. We would find these germ ridden masks all over the street, in the rivers and were just filthy litter.

Lovely attitude and research 🙏i just love the research and teaching of dr William Li - and fine conclusion - eat whole food Look for the local and seasonal and the organic - and dont overeat ( only eat so that you still feel light and dancing) and dont keep snacking - and maybe skip a meal. Be mindfull of how your body responds. 🎵🌺❤️🎶

When you eat all the time or in between meals it is like adding clothes to the washing machine when it is part way through the cycle. The body has to start all over again at the beginning. The poor stomach needs time to rest before the next meal so we should let it finish its work. I do not cook anything in oil I sauté with water. I don’t want to coat my starches with oil of any kind since oil make the starches unable to start digesting in the mouth and bile has to remove the fats to unlock the starches. I try to eat the best not just a bit better than the SAD diet. I do not do not need to use coffee since it gives me a strong stimulus when I want to live a very quiet life. Other stimulants are not used but I eat good food and stay hydrated with water as well. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for this very informative podcast 👏! So a few things I felt I needed to comment on. I LOVE THE BROCCOLI STEMS! I eat them raw and add them with the Broccoli heads. The stem taste similar to a Kohlrabi 😋! Second, Kiwis 🥝! I recently watched a recipe with Jamie Oliver and he seared the kiwi and added it to a dish! I can't wait to try that. 3rd. I've heard from a certain Dr. that the lectins from the tomato skin and seeds are not good for the gut health. What's your take on lectins in tomatoes and other fruits such as peppers?

Thank you, for all this very valuable health advice/info. Im so happy to hear that sun flower seeds are beneficial to health. Im sure that Dr Steven Grundy stated that sunflower seeds should not be consumed due to the lectins they contain? I’ve been watching various podcasts over the last few months on health & healthy food advice & I’m finding so much conflicting advice & information. I used to eat lots of raw spinach, but Dr Grundy says that’s a no no, again due to lectins which he states are poisons & responsible for a lot of health issues? Please could you help clear this conflicting advice up? Many thanks C

I use garlic powder instead of salt with black pepper sometimes but my favorite is paprika and black pepper I season fish with it or chicken sometimes I put a little Cayenne with it also but I have to go lighter on the Cayenne sometimes my stomach likes it and sometimes it doesn't my taste buds love it but I have to watch how much I eat but I actually can eat more peppers than I can Cayenne they bother me less if they're fermented if they're fresh they're too hot especially jalapenos but if they're fermented they're not that bad banana peppers I love but sometimes I read the jar and there's some things on there I don't like what I read but I guess moderation is the key.

Unfortunately the big pharma, FDA, isn't value the benefits of healing abilities of healthy food consumption, is Dr. Like you are rare gem in today's public is not aware of how harmful highly processed foods in the grocery store frozen section. Public needs to be more proactive in their own health.

My home state, Missouri just passed a law making it legal for our docs and nurses to be able to counsel patients about nutrition without being a registered dietician. Can you believe it was illegal for a doc to counsel you about the food you eat. My doc is very very health oriented and he can now talk food with me. Finally. Our lawmakers do this to us on purpose. Disease is a big business for big pharma and hospitals. This is on purpose.

@@stormy8092 totally, l never trust all the drug 💉 advertised on MSM to tell public to ask doctors, then lists of all the sudden effects is worst then the original symptoms. Big pharma don't profit if all the people are healthy. They ard trying to pass thd law to restrict vitamin sales without prescription fif decades now. Evil to the core.

Kiwi 🥝 is SO high in oxalates, you can actually feel them poking the delicate oral tissues in your mouth, and they imbed in your body tissues.

@@patriot20000 Really? I was thinking of the prickly/"cool" sensation of eating kiwi as the billions of oxalates contained therein. Spinach also, always felt "scratchy" in my mouth, leaving a hint of sandpapery feeling...I guess that was oxalates too.
