All the magicians and illusionist do a simple prep exercise which is used to extrapolate the necessary information pertaining to their act of the day. And there's a code amongst the practitioners that no prep work shall ever be recorded on camera. And this "subliminal influencing" explanation of how a mind reading works has also been perpetuated since the beginning of time but is not at all relevant for performing mind reading illusions. Example of a prep work could be as simple as - asking people to write their special person name on a blank piece of paper and asking them throw or burn that paper with you (magician) ever looking/ touching the paper ever. But nonetheless, those who perform such illusions have to have a great mass communication skills, crowd management skills and a lot of other complimentary magic skills to successfully pull of an excellent magic "day".
