Boycott China: The Harsh Truth | Dhruv Rathee

Is it realistically possible to boycott Chinese products? In this video, I explain how it can be done by individuals, governments and businesses / companies using the backdrop of US-China Trade War. Firstly, I explain what was the impact of US-China trade and how it led to companies moving outside China and economically affecting both the countries. There was a loss of approx 1% GDP Growth rate. I bring the same example to India and explain the importance of Free Trade Agreements with other countries if India is to reduce its dependence on China. I also explain the over importance given to Made in China products vs products / services by Chinese companies.

Thanks for this video, two things: 1. I think because India exports a lot less than what it imports from China, India can raise import tariffs to its advantage, because this will affect Chinese businesses more than Indian businesses - China stands to lose a greater amount of Business than India 2. To reduce dependency on China or for that matter on any country, India needs to improve is own capabilities. This is off course in addition to diversifying it's trade relationships that you have highlighted. As of now the reason why Indians don't buy Micromax is that its nothing in comparison to Xiaomi or One plus (not sure if these are Chinese or taiwanese, but you get my Point)

First I would like everyone to read this incident 👉 “During 1965 war with Pakistan, there was acute shortage of food. Adding to the woes, the US threatened to cut supplies of wheat if India didn't stop the war. At that time, India used to import wheat. It was a stepping stone towards being a self sufficient nation.” This has parallels to the situation today in our country. We are too much dependent on Chinese goods and software that it is not good for our country. What many people are saying that we cannot live without Chinese smartphones or Chinese goods because of the features they offer and the price at which they offer and they assume that poor and middle class people of this country cannot afford to boycott Chinese smartphones and other stuff. BUT THEY ARE WRONG. If at a time when our country was in abject poverty, our parents and grandparents could skip a meal for their love of this country, we can't even live without gaming, entertainment or good camera? The poor/middle class people including me can definitely do at least this much for our country. They are underestimating the power of poor/middle class and their love for this country. If skipping a meal can lead India to be self sufficient in food and milk then boycotting Chinese goods and software will definitely lead India to be self sufficient in these fields too. China is using its economy and its “economies of scale” to further its expansionism by annexing other countries land. We common citizens of India can definitely help our military and government during these critical times by not giving China any business from now on. I have seen many people taking actions in reality and not just posting on social media about boycotting China. So people are ready for these small sacrifices. But are you?

That won't change your life but it will make a tremendous difference for our civilization in the long term. I need a screen, I'll buy a Taiwanese or South Korean brand. My laptop is a Lenovo. I bought it second hand: 0 pennies for the CCP. In 4 to 7 years, when it will die, I'll buy a new or second hand Framework laptop. My next phone won't be from a Chinese brand.
