Yes, Mattenet sometimes is annoying... but it is funny to watch him. And often he is able to play amazing rallies. Table tennis needs different styles and characters to make it more interesting.

Mattenet really fought there against a superior opponent and made the match really tight (except the 2nd set of course!). It's obvious he is trying to shorten the points more and more with attempts to be more aggressive than he used to be and when forced to go to the back court he tries to counterattack more quickly. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the technical stability to sustain an aggressive game all the way, his short game is unsufficient, he is also a poor receiver and he seems to be always on the edge (he makes easy mistakes after a great point, he is prone to miss his serves in crucial points, he doesn't have a coherent game plan...). He's got a lot of work to do but he is also talented therefore as I wrote in another vid, he may go up the ranks again if he continues to improve. His victories over Andrej Gacina and Tiago Apolonia are encouraging. Ovtcharov solid as usual, he is a deserving member of the top 10.

faut qu-il arrete de se reposer sur sa technique mattenet... Il croit trop s-en sortir avec juste la technique.. mais il est pas du tt assez aggressif... A un moment faut prendre des risques et attaquer pas rester sur la defensive.
