@@katef6154 Yes...it is! You can hear the transposition at 1.20. The tonality drops a semi tone on that chord. You are correct that there is no actual high C written in the original but the cabaletta is written in C major and the high C has been traditionally interpolated at the end for generations. It fits the emotion of the scene very well and closes it in an appropriately heroic way. Jose sings it here in B natural...one half step down. For all his wonderful gifts...Carrerras never really had a secure high C...hence the transposition.

@@katef6154 Kate!!!! The original is in C major. This is in B major. The original has G’s at the end not a high C but the two interpolated high C’s have become traditional. This version is half a step down in B major with two interpolated high B’s. Check the pitch if you don’t believe us all!!!!!!!!!!!!

carreras was great tenor even here losing greatness he sang heavy roles too soon the high c is unimportant my father and i had or have high c but we were baritones ricness of tone lack of any force better to be great bassor baritone than a passing tenor if note is great c b bf not important

High C is interpolated. Verdi wrote no high C in the original. Carreras sings a high something, for sure. No high anything in the original.
