Hey guys! This weeks video is about the signs of diabetes. Having some of the signs of diabetes doesn’t mean you definitely have the condition, but you should always contact your GP, just to make sure.
Type 2 diabetes can cause serious long-term health problems. It can be easy to miss as it develops slowly, especially in the early stages when it can be harder to spot the symptoms. If left untreated diabetes affects many major organs, including your heart, blood vessels, nerves, eyes and kidneys. Being diagnosed early and controlling your blood sugar levels can help prevent these complications.
COMMON SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES:
• Urinating more often than usual, particularly at night
• Feeling very thirsty
• Feeling very tired
• Unexplained weight loss
• Itching around the penis or vagina, or frequent episodes of thrush
• Cuts or wounds that heal slowly
• Blurred vision - caused by the lens of the eye becoming dry
WHY DO WE GET THESE SYMPTOMS IN DIABETES:
These symptoms occur because some or all of the glucose stays in the blood, and isn’t being used as fuel for energy. The body tries to reduce blood glucose levels by flushing the excess glucose out of the body in the urine. High levels of glucose being passed in the urine are a perfect breeding ground for the fungal infection which causes thrush.
RISK FACTORS FOR TYPE 2 DIABETES:
Three of the main risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes are:
Age - Being over the age of 40 (over 25 for people of south Asian, Chinese, African-Caribbean or black African origin, even if you were born in the UK).
Genetics - Having a close relative with the condition, such as a parent, brother or sister.
Weight - Being overweight or obese.

SYMPTOMS OF FUNGAL THRUSH INFECTIONS:
Thrush is a yeast infection (candida albicans) which tends to affect warm, moist areas of the body such as the vagina, penis, mouth and certain areas of skin.
Thrush is more common in people with diabetes as high sugar levels lead to better conditions for the yeast to grow.
Vaginal thrush (vulvovaginal candidiasis) symptoms include:
• Soreness and irritation
• White curd appearance on the skin
• Pain during sexual intercourse
• White vaginal discharge
• Reddening of the vulva (the outer parts of the vagina)
• Itching around the vagina (infectious vaginitis)
Oral thrush (oral candidiasis) symptoms include:
• A nasty or bitter taste
• Redness or bleeding inside the mouth
• Creamy white coloured patches (lesions) in the mouth (cheeks, lips, tongue or the back of the mouth)
• Painful and sore mouth (can include the throat)
• Cracks at the corners of the lips (angular cheilitis)
Thrush in men (candida balanitis) Symptoms of thrush in men include:
• Reddening or swelling or soreness of the glans (head) of the penis
• Itching around the tip of the penis
• Discharge beneath the foreskin
• Nasty odour
• Pain during urination
• White curd-like appearance on the skin
• Painful experience during sex
PREVENTING TYPE 2 DIABETES:
If you're at risk of type 2 diabetes, you may be able to prevent it developing by making lifestyle changes:
• Eating a healthy, balanced diet
• Losing weight if you're overweight, and maintaining a healthy weight
• Stopping smoking if you smoke
• Drinking alcohol in moderation
• Taking plenty of regular exercise

I think I have it but at the same time I tell myself I dont, I'm only 14 😪 I already wear glasses so I can't tell but lately my vision gets blurry in my glasses. I drnk normal amount of water but daily I urinate about 6-12 times a day

Aahhhhhh! I have a lot of these symptoms! Pee a lot during night, twitching skin, and blurry ziggly vision once in awhile. However I don't have any kidney pain or overweight. I do have stomach pain but I drink cabbage juice and the pain completely go away. Is this some kind of warning for the future?

my doctor the other day took five vials of my blood and a cup or urine for testing, I was curious of what they were testing so I looked and diabetes was on there, so for curiosity I started doing research about diabetes and found out I share almost all the symptoms.however,I dont really eat bad and im just about 5 pounds above the usual weight for my age and height (16 and 5'2) I probably don't have it but it still worries me.Because these symptoms have caused me a lot of problems in school.

en cee hello! Smoking causes inflammation; inflammation leads to cellular damage and oxidative stress, increase abdominal fat. These 3 factors all contribute to development of diabetes. Hope this answered your question.

@@learnlovereflect6628 sorry, I can't help you guys. I was given blood forms so they could test but the taste disappeared as suddenly as it appeared, so I didnt get my bloods done. My doctor suspected it was hormone related for me. Very strange, never had it since.

Sorry to hear that. If you're in America, you can utilize a free clinic for regular screenings. If your income falls below federal income guidelines, you should qualify for Medicaid programs which is free and/or greatly reduced insurance for things like exams, xrays, medications, hospital visits and the like. Hope this helps.

I get these regular burning sensations that feel like I’ve been stung by a wasp and then as soon as a rub the area the pain goes away...one time I was standing while talking to a group of people and that stinging pain hit me so hard I dropped my tote 👜 and cursed out loud...is this nerve neuropathy?

I have none of these symptoms but I have a darkening around my neck and the skin looks cracked which I heard is a symptom of diabetes

Try cardio I used to have the same thing around my neck and it went away after exercising a lot
