You guys are great! I recently started going to a T1D Meetup group and it's the first time I've been able to talk to other diabetics. It's been a great experience. Having a diabetic roommate must be so nice, you're totally right about the jokes. I didn't even realize what I was missing out on. Thank you!

Thanks Danica and Amy for making these vids! You can't know how incredibly helpful this comparison is - I got approval for pump just last week and I am choosing between Animas Vibe and Minimed 522 / 722 this week. It's very exciting and I've learnt heaps from your video. Thanks from New Zealand! :D

Love your videos. Just got my pump 2.5 weeks ago. Got the Medtronic revel with 3 ml reservoir. I watched most of your videos while jumping through my insurance hoops to get it and I am super excited to have it. Wish I could have had it when I first got diagnosed ten years ago

I have only had my pump for 3 weeks and my cgm for a week. I love them. At first I was doubting if I wanted a Medtronic snce it already looked outdated but terep assured me that I will get a no cost upgrade to the newer model comming out in the next few months.

This has been so helpful!! I can read pump specs all day but not having diabetes means I have no clue what actually matters during daily use. I'm researching various pumps for my 11month old (a reason the remote range is of interest to some) and knowing that color screen isn't helpful and reservoir size isn't the end of the world are things I need to learn. Thank you for the informal comparison and practical information.

Hi there, my name is Hayley and I have had diabetes for 14 years. I was on the medtronic for a very long time. I have been on the onmipod for 2 years now and love it. I am not trying to be a hater or anything i just disagree with some of the things you said and would like to express what I know about it. First of all a lot of people worry about loosing it but you always have your phone on you and your blood test and you probs don't loose those it is the same. Also what i love about it is that you are notified when there is a problem with insulin delivery which drove me crazy on the medtronic. In the 2 years i have been on it i have never had it fall off. Contrary to popular belief i find it very discret more than the medtronic. Anyways nothing against you guys just wanted to share what i know and you guys are very funny :)

The database is on the meter remote - and I've never used it either. But having been diabetic for 38 years, when my eyesight diminished from cataracts, I switched to the PING so I could actually read it with the lighted display. I couldn't even see the numbers or letters on the Medtronic Paradigm.

I am guessing that Amy has an older version of medtronic? The 523/723 that is the most current one and some of the features that she mentioned not having are actually available on the 723. Also, pathways program right now is currently FREE upgrade to the low-suspend VEO that is the next one coming out (hopefully by the end of 2013).

you don't have to pretend to bolus to find out the active insulin. I got my pump a couple of days ago and all you have to do is press the ESC button and then scroll down. It tells you everything, like how many more minutes until your next BG check, how many units you have had and how much is left, everything. but yeah (P.S....this is for the Medtronic insulin pump)
@erinannelies
@erinannelies 10 жыл бұрын
actually on the medtronic, not sure if me and her have the same model, but to get to active insulin, all you have to do is press ESC and it's right there. I also had the omnipod for a year and it worked pretty well for me. It was annoying with wearing tight clothing but I honestly didn't care..The thing that annoyed me most was how restricting it was to play sports with that gaudy thing on you. But it's a cool concept.

I have the Animas pump (for about 7-8 years now), and you can get a variety of different steel cannulae. I was ignorant of this for many years, and suffered HUGE problems with leakage when using a teflon cannula, to the point where I basically couldn't bolus any more than 1-1.5 units at a time without it just coming back out. Finally discovered the steel ones, and that problem is gone. The best in my opinion is the Accu-Chek Rapid-D, followed by the Contact Detach. Orbit 90, although popular for some reason, is absolute junk (yes, it spins, big deal... it also tears off incredibly easily and the connector catches on things and pops off, spontaneously pops off, and sometimes appears to be connected when it's not). I recommend anyone using the teflon to at least try the steel; it's less painful to insert, and contrary to what you might think, you don't feel it once it's in.

You gave some wrong advise in the Medtronic pump and 'ACTIVE INULIN". the way that you said to get to the active insulin you press the "ESC" key once (twice if you the the Medrtonic CGM), then the "DOWN ARROW" two or so times and you will see "Active ins:______". The way you described it of having to prtend to bolus is a long and rediculous way to get you active insulin.

You're both awesome and you can put that in your pumps and prime them! Thank you for your review, it's helpful to get experienced pump user opinions. I'm trying to decide which pump to get next out of, Animas Vibe, Meditronic MiniMed 640G system, Accu-Chek Insight or the OmniPod? Opinions welcome 👂 I won't be using CGM 100% of the time, so bolus wizard from BG tests/meter/results is important.

I have the Medtronic blue one. I have a rare auto-immune/neurological disease called Stiff Person Syndrome. Only 1 in 1 million people are attacked by this disease & it is unknown. Usually you already have D1 if u r diagnosed w it since effects GAD antibodies attacking ur musles/neurtransmitters cell& its the GAD65 that is also associated with Diabetes1. If don't have D1 there is higher chance (like 50%) u will get later in life,I was 36 when diagnosed. Dr thought D2 till 2008 w/bs of 900+

I'm old school. Disetronic aka Roche aka Accu Chek Spirit Combo. It's not sexy, but nearly bullet proof. The Swiss engineering is top notch. Dual microprocessors and brass gears. I had 6 Medtronic Paradigms die on me within a years time back in 99. I'm on my third Disetronic pump since 2000. I've never had one fail in more than 15 years. I loved your honest appraisal of each pump. I've used a Medtronic pump since 1985, when it was big as a brick. After three years of dealing with blockages in the tubing I went back to multiple injections. That problem no longer exists and twelve years later I decided to give the pump another try. I currently have the Medtronic Revel, but found their CGM sucks. I'm on day 5 of trying out the Animas because I've heard the Dexcom is much better. Other than a faster insulin delivery and being water-proof I'd say Medtronic wins hands down. I've read that the Medtronic CGM has improved since I last used it. Think I'll stay with Medtronic.

Medtronics is a solid pump. They are a cutting edge. I currently have the less popular Accucheck spirit and I love it Because it's never given me one issue but I just got the animas vibe that I will be trained on. I love the CGM on it but not sure now because I have no only the Dexcom but Dexcom share that allows my wife to see my levels anywhere I go. Maybe I should switch to ping since I need to keep the Dexcom share

I have been looking at switching pumps for awhile this was very helpful having that nice side by side of the pros and cons of each pump. I am a ping user myself and I did get it because of how waterproof the pump is I shower in it swim in it, we do a lot of floating over where I live so I do a lot of water time and this pump has been great for that. Medtronic is coming out with a new pump that is very waterproof that I have been looking at also. Let me know what you think of the vibe it is a downgrade to a older pump that they paired the CGM with so I would love to see how it goes for you.

Hey Danica! I have got a question: Is it possible to change a prolonged bolus once it's started? I mean when you decided at 1pm you wanted 4IE over a period of 4hours. Then you feel funny and have a bg-reading that is too high at 2pm. Can you say you want the bolus not over the remaining 3hours but instantly or over the next 30minutes? Or isn't there a chance to change it once it's set?

insulin on board sucks if I eat 100 carbs = 10 units if I eat 50 carbs then 50 carbs then it'll give 5 + 3~? makes no sense to me I'm probably more insulin resistant not sensitive the more I eat. I wonder why they didn't go ahead and add a program that automatically boluses when you're glucose is rising with the cgm that calculates your insulin sensitivity for you

I tried the pump(minimed), and I really liked it, but apparently I'm too sensitive to the insulin and the sets, even the latex free ones. It causes a crazy rash reaction that lasts for a month or so after. Has anyone had something like that happen before?I've tried Humalog, Novolog, and Apidra. Even just pen injections "burn" quite a bit.

I was just going to say the very same thing that I just seen that someone else already did because you absolutely do not need to pretend to give a bolus to see that you simply need to press the escape button once if you don't have your sensor on and twice if the sensor is turned on and that shows your status screen which also has active insulin as well as all the other information that you would need to know. The two of you should really do an update to this video to correct the mistakes that you guys have made in it because a video with mistakes isn't helping anyone.

I've only had mine for a couple months but I love it! Perks are it regulates your sugars more and you don't have to do daily injections only one every 3 days. And depending where you put it you can't feel it at all. So if you have to give a reason to your doctor just say for better blood sugar control.

Iam getting the omni pod in a week. I never thought about the plastic cannula kinking. I mostly just thought about the tubing on other pumps getting kinked or getting air bubble. Or even like getting knotted up or if u sleep on it if u block the insulin income. Has any of that ever happened to u Danica?

I had it for 3 years on and off. I had few problems and a faulty pod actually sent my to the ICU with DKA

Yeah thx. Well I have never had a problem with a bad pod except for a few times but they always alert when they are faulty bc there are trillions of little sensors to help me!

I have the omni pod, I find it better casue I'm only 12. I somethimes get made fun of at school because I have a lump on my arm/stumach (which is the omni pod) I am used to it now, I have been a diabetic for 2 years! When I first got diagnosed there was his one boy that made fun of me I used to pretend I was ok but then I would go to the school toilets and cry. He always used to get away with it unil one day me and my bestfriend set him up, he said "Oh look it's the contaiges little diabetic girl nobody go near her you might catch diabetes" then he started laughing! It turns out my bestfriend was walking up the coridor with my teacher when he said it. He got so told of he has never made a comment about my diabeties since. From time to time other people make fun but it doesn't bother me that much anymore. I am so glad you created this youtube channel because this is what got me through being bullied with diabeties, your videos we there for me to watch whenever I was feeling down and it made me feel like I wasen't alone that there were other people with diabetes to that I was't alone! Can I just say thank you, you are my roll model, I want to be just like you when i'm older.
