Hi Danica, Simon here :). I was diagnosed Type1 diabetes about 3 weeks ago. It was more a ''surprise'' than a shock since i figured it out alone by the symptons a day before going to hospital that it was diabetes so i was kinda...calm?Thanks to my calm personality i took it very good, my life isn't over, i'm not sad, i'm okay. Sure i wondered for a moment ''why me'' but then i just thought : Now it's a part of me, so deal with it. I stayed in the hospital for 3 days, and in the mean time i surfed a lot on the internet reading about diabetes, what i'll can and not eat and stuff like that XD. Then when i came back at home of course i searched other stuff(for some days, even now) about diabetes to learn as much as possible. And then i went on youtube and i found your channel and i watched some of your videos. So first of all THANK YOU for making them :). You helped me a lot, i learned some cool adivces (like how to tell your friends about diabetes...they took it pretty good, we even joke about it and it doesn't bother me, i will continue to do what i was doing before, but now i'll just eat ''healthier'' (i wasn't doing that before :V ) control my blood sugar and get shots.I'm kinda already used to them, but i miss the experience out of the house...even thou i've already went for a pizza and to the cinema. Anyways thank you again for making this videos, they help a lot, believe me and keep it going :D Bye P.S.I'm 22 years old if you were wondering if i were around your age.

Imagine knowing you'll get diabetes because your mom is diabetic, is just a matter of when. That's how I lived my life from age 7 to age 53. When the symptoms started I was in denial, but eventually it got worse and I got to the hospital with 500. I love the clinic, seems like a 5 star spa, and even diabetic food was great, down to sweet things. I knew more or less what it would be like, so I got into the routine and up to speed pretty fast. It's been a month now, my numbers are great and my experience with my mom was a great education!

Thanks for another great video! I just realized while watching that I have never heard someone else's diagnosis story, and I've had Type I for 35 years. I felt very similar to you when I was first when diagnosed. It's nice to know someone out there gets it.

Woah. Nearly everything you mentioned happened to me, symptom-wise. Little did I know... Diagnosed a month and a half ago. I even had the Wilford Brimley-based denial, the ER call-ahead and Nurse Ratchet's twin sister. I'm 25, so I apparently broke the type-1 diagnosis age curve! Rockstar. I teach high school, so I got to introduce my students to what diabetes actually is. And I still find myself making diabeetuhs jokes, even thought I have it. Thanks for the videos. Peace!

Thanks :] I'm learning that there's still a lot of learning to do. Everything has gone well so far (haven't hit crazy-low and only spiked above 200 a couple of times). It's still new, but I'm adjusting to the whole new-way-of-life thing. My kids tell me I'm cool, but not when they're taking finals (or a pop quiz for teh lulz) :D

I was diagnosed at 11, it will 10 yrs in august and have never really learned to deal with it but i'm working on it. My blood sugar was 1700 at diagnosis and I've been on and off the pump since. I know its still going to take some time but I'm really looking forward to this artificial pancreas project (using the bg monitor to create a closed loop system). If you haven't looked into it yet I highly suggest it.

i got diagnosed with diabetes last week, im 20 years old and been a bodybuilder for 4 years... the first responds to that was how the hell is this possible, i eat the most clean diet and workout 5 times a week, and here i am with diabetes, im getting use to it now with the testing glucose, but i haven't started taken insulin yet im on pills to see if that's all i need and so far they don't seem to be doing so well, my average glucose level is from 14-18 and the normal person should only be at 4-5, having a sugar level this high freaks me out, specially me being a fitness addict, i can just imagine what this sugar is doing to me. but when i start taking the insulin im going straight to a pump.

I was 3 whan I was diagnosed in 1960, so my memories as a non diabetic are very remote.I agree with all of what you mention.I especially agree with having the name changed to Live-abetes.When the first type 2 was diagnosed they should have been able to think of a new name.Sorry I cant do the video thing

I feel like the only person who got turned loose the same night they were diagnosed - as soon as my blood sugar came down I got scripts for insulin and that was it. I didn't get in hospital education or anything.

I would never eat. My parents scared me into eating by telling me if I didnt, they would take me to the hospital. Now we know they should have. It was my 7th bday, and I was puking, seeing things, crying. My doctor said it was the flu. I only weighed 38lbs.I remember puking & sneezing at the same time and the puke came out my nose. Ew. I'll have to skip ahead because I don't know what happened while I was passed out. I woke up in the ambulance and they asked me if I knew where I was. I replied the hostpitle.my BG was 666, and I had large keytones. My parents stayed w/ me, and my sisters stayed at my grandmas house. People came to visit all the time. I was there for 4-5 days. I was happy to go home, but I was confused and scared. Now I've had it for a little over 4 years, and I'm a pro, I'm used to the needles, on a pump, animas ping, and teaching my family about my condition.now I am at a healthy weight.I don't enjoy diabetes, but I don't have a choose but to deal with it, so I do. I rather deal with it then die, so I do what I have to.

Hi Danica. My son was diagnosed at age 4, he hates that he has it but he is a fighter. He is on an animus pump as well. Do you have any advise on making him feel better about being different. His sugars are very unpredictable so we are trying to get him a CGM and a D.A.D. I want him to have every tool available, but I also he has a good attitude like you do. His story is on here as Xander's Story but there are a lot of Xanders :) but you can check it out at "an alert dog for Xander" on fb

i did too, i was giving my shots immediately and testing sugar cause i told the nurses "Hell im gonna have to learn this sometime" however i was 22, i think it depends on the age your told at. Also, how afraid of needles and blood you are lol. But i still suffer from every single one of the other problems and situations she describes, are you not the same there?

Danica your videos are great but can you find someone that has type 1 diabetes that has had it from the age 9 month or below. I am unable to find people that have had it that young. I know it may not make a difference to anybody but the longer you have it is what i am in question of. Thank you Cathy
