@@JenTCC OK a little story time there used to be an object called the world stone granted anyone god like power however, after it disappeared, the angel, despite being wisdom incarnate he didn’t know where it is, so he disappeared for a while, and eventually ended up on the human world, where he grew disgusted at humanity, because humans had some thing they didn’t a choice between good and evil think about it angels are born good demons are born evil, he believes in no living being should have that choice that and humanity always chooses evil so he went insane and decided to wipe humidity out

Malthael saw how despite everything, as long as the soulstone which contained Diablos soul as well as the rest of the prime evils and most of the lesser evils souls, as long as it remained in the mortal world the cycle of Diablos rebirth would continue as his influence over mortals even when he was just a mere whisper/shadow of himself would always lure an ignorant mortal or a power hungry mage, warrior, king, queen, or noble to open up their body and soul for him to possess and thus be reborn and try once again to destroy the mortal world as well as the heavens. Malthael sought to stop this by taking up the mandle of death thus gaining the powers of death and souls, and sought to contain the evils within himself, as the mandle of death he would have power to withold the evils in chains forever, however to do so, he would need hundreds of thousands perhaps millions of souls to contain them and stay powerful enough to do so, the Nephalem (the heroes you play in diablo3 who has a little bit of angel and demon blood in them a hybrid if you will) was asked to stop Malthael before he would consume both the souls of mortals and angels, they managed to defeat malthael but as he was defeated the soulstone shattered and all the souls of the evils trapped within was released and would now be able to return to destroy the world again. (which is basically what we have been waiting for to happen since the end of reaper of souls, and which is what might happen in the upcoming Diablo 4)

@@JenTCC something about the worldstone being shattered in Diablo 2, and then he decided all demons must be destroyed, and since humans are half angel half demon (if I'm remembering that right) that includes all of humanity. That's also why he spared Tyriel, because he had no demonic essence within his soul

@@RhantheSlayer He kind of went mad and spent a while wandering through Pandemonium. He then somehow convinced himself and a host of angels that humans all had to die due to their composition being partly demonic so as to not unbalance the eternal war. (It's possibly a certain soulstone might have been corrupting him at this time given his use of it)

Imperius didnt die, he was merely wounded, Diablo does not want Imperius to die, he is far too important to him, as Imperius is the mandle of Valour however with valour comes hubris and overconfidence, Imperius is the first in the line of battle and the last to withdraw, but since he cares so much for his valour he is also short sighted something Diablo can use to his advantage.

Also at that point Diablo is the embodiment of basically all sin so it serves him (and probably entertains him) more by having a broken and defeated Imperius watch as he just strolls through his home to destroy everything.

@@MaxArch Indeed. It does sort of make sense considering the forces of hell are slightly stronger than the forces of heaven normally (in terms of sheer hypothetical power). With the unity of the council fractured by the outcasting of Tyrael and the disappearance of Malthael, the unified power of Hell stomps (although Imperius did get a scratch in to his credit). I imagine Auriel and Itherael would have been there for the battle but the animation budget said no.

The Angels, much like the demons, do not really die either tho. It has been strongly implied that the lesser angels might lose their identity(unconfirmed), but the great ones generally do not, unless they grow corrupted. Something I suspect Diablo has always planned for Imperious. No other archangel is quite so susceptible to corruption. He could very well become the "Angel of Wrath", just as Malthael became the "Angel of Death."

@@Nyarlathotep_Flagg Yeah it makes sense. We know from the Wrath cinematic that the prime evils reincarnate when destroyed so it stands to reason their angelic counterparts do as well. It would be interesting to see if Malthael could ever return or what would happen if Tyrael died as a pure mortal.

Quick story summary for main parts of D3: Angiris council was basically leadership of heaven it was made of 5 archangels, Malthael (Knowledge), Imperius(Valor), Tyrael (Justice), Auriel (Hope) and Itherael (Fate). Malthael was a leader of the council untill basically the moment tyrael broke worldstone in diablo 2: LoD after which he left with the conclussion that to end the eternal conflict it is needed to destroy all demons including nephalem (us) because we are partly demons as well. He just had to figure out how. After Malthael left council Imperius became the leader of the council but Tyrael was scolded for messing with mortals and that's basically why Tyrael left because he found Imperius to be an actual imbecile (my words but imperius is stupid) because while heaven was not messing with the mortals demons sure as hell were. Because he rip of his wings he fell to the sanctuary (not killing decard cain in the process although he still died to a butterfly). Black soulstone in D3 was created originally to contain any souls and it was used by Diablo to contain all the Great evils to make Diablo basically evil incarnate. Diablo was beaten by nephalem (us) but black soulstone with all the great evils remained in heaven which was not good for the heaven, Tyrael decided to rebuild horadrim and bury the Soulstone because he was not sure how or if he should destroy it. Malthael said it's reapin' time and stole the soulstone and altered it to basically rip all the souls from sanctuary. He started that we fought him he recalled the stone back to shatter it and infuse himself to beat us with extra power up with demon juice and still died to us. He disintegrated releasing all the evils in the stone back out. with no stone around Tyrael bacame a depressed local fixer telling nephalem where to find jobs.

It's not Diablo's real/original form. That's his patchwork prime evil state. Having absorbed all the other lords of hell, and possessing his daughter's body(yes, Leah' was unwittingly Diablo's daughter. And her cultist mother tricks her, weakening her, and helping her father possess her). The original state of "The Prime Evil." Is the many 7 headed dragon Tethamet. Upon him, and the good part of Anu killing on another, each head became a "Great Evil"/"Lord of Hell." Of which Diablo is the Lord of Terror.

Only the cinematics don't tell the whole story. Tyrael didn't kill Deackard Cain (btw a major character in Diablo 1 and 2). Maghda mortally wounded Cain. You cannot get the whole story only from the cinematics. There a such huge gaps between the cinematics. You don't even see Leah's fate.

The Reaper used to stand for Wisdom in the heavens before the abandoned them and took on the aspect of death, becoming the "Reaper of souls" hence the "brother"...

He didn't actually kill her uncle, that was done by a cult leader later on. But I suppose he did set the chain of events that killed him in motion... Not that he'd likely survived either way if he didn't... Then the world would have been domoed ^^ The nephalem would never have learned about the demon's plots, and could never stopped it in time without Deckard. It's the same in pretty much all the Diablo games up to D3. Deckard Cain is a scholar, and points the hero in the right direction.

Mmmm... Kinda sorta... The angels originally held a vote on if they should kill all humans because of their partial demonic ancestry, and enormous potential. And Tyrael gave the deciding vote that advocated sparing them - Even though kind of feared them(the nephalem as they were, and were knwon back then. Much more powerful than the "humans" of the current era), he could see no justice in it. Ultimately they agreed to sanctuary to the humans, and made pact with even the demons - To leave Sanctuary(the mortal world) out of the fight, and withdraw from the mortal world. The Demons did ofc not keep this, eventually circumventing the magical pact and boundry by tricking humans to let them possess them, or summon them into the world. And the angels stupidly just sat there and let it happen, except for Tyrael. It's kinda sickening how they blame humans for their flaws, when their choices have resulted in them living in absolute desperation and misery. They sealed away the powers of their birthright, their great magical might and aptitude(crossing of demon's and angels, the nephalem(human ancestors) were much more powerful than either. As ultimately they're basically in essense small pieces of the original creator god Anu reunited. Literally made in the "sort of image" of the original creator god, reuniting some of the good and bad parts that he once split himself into(angels/demons)).
