Haven't bothered to calculate in-game but are you sure it isn't (BaseDmg * (1 + EleDmg)) + (BaseDmg * (1 + EliteDmg))?

And the problem with this is that fire elemental is the most effective so there is only one way to go for clearing higher torment. Magefist and Cindercoat makes fire elemental stronger than any other elemental damage. So when Blizzard wanted more diversity in builds and took away all the effective builds like WW barb and CM wizard etc, they just did the same mistake again with elemental damage.

Is it not that bonus fire skill damage on the weapon, bracers etc. just buffing "Skills" that use fire damage, and the bonus fire damage on the item such as the Devastator increasing the basic damage output.???

When i have 50% lighting damage and a weapon with 2000 lighting damage, does the lightning damage increases the damage of the weapon by 50% so up to 3000 damage?

no that affix on your weapon does not contribute to that at all. Only case that it does something is when you have a '+10% dmg' affix on the weapon, in that case this affix only applies to non-elemental dmg and physical dmg (bug).

i have 60% crit prob and 502% crit dmg + 25% cold dmg + 25% arcane orb dmg, my base dmg is 1.100.000 + mage buffs = 1.6M should i lose some crit and win elemental?

Yeah i guessed that , imho they best synergic possibility from a DH point of view (2 1H crossbow) are Fire on : SoJ / amulet / bracers/gloves/cinder Cluster arrow dmg on helm (so you are not forced to andariel) And elite dmg where it's possible , SoJ/Sets

My fire monk with +80% fire dmg and with fire TR and fire epiphany can just walk and clear T1 whole screen when epiphany is on by jsut running with TR. It also helps to have 40% cooldown reduction and that is a stat i am trying to buff even more. And with hexing pants when i move i do 1.2M deeps. And all that with my 600 sheet DPS monk. That's why i despize naps who just brag about sheet dps. Elemental damage + skill damage have multiplication effect.

one of my friends was trying to be leet and basically riped my gear to shreds saying i am focusing way too much on fire damage, im at 100% with 1.3m buffed all skills are fire and with a mirrorball my magic missles hit like a truck. he has barely any effective deeps i reakon i would destroy his damage. ill admit my toughness is lacking though got 200k hp :( but im hoping to get some better rolls on legs i already have so i can reroll vit or life% but apparently rngjesus is a douche.

Since we're talking about it, when is it worth it to put a diamond in your weapon over an emerald? Ever? I feel like the answer is never but you bring up a good point about the potency of +elite damage.

The way things are now it simply isn't worth it. You want prioritize getting a give stat on the piece of gear where it can roll the highest. Since only weapons can get 130% CD, that socket should be reserved for emeralds, while replacing a crit damage ring (max CD 50%)with SoJ (max elite damage 30%, max element 20%) is a much better trade.

I figured as much. Man they need to rework socketing and gems in general, it's just annoying that there are no incentives to socket anything besides a ruby and an emerald in weapons and topaz and emerald in helms are worthless too. Also fix Monk/Barb/Wizard 2Hers...

Agreed. Crit damage and monster HP are just too damn high atm. Combined with the overcrowded primary affix pool, and nearly worthless secondary pool, it's hard to find space for experimentation with other stats without crippling your damage output. I'd also like if gems were reworked to give more class specific effects, so we could all benefit from rubies/topazes/emeralds in our armor, instead of just spamming more main stats.

Hey dude, yes it is, like if you're a demon hunter you want bonus cluster arrow dmg wherever you can get it without sacrificing important stats. Hope i could help

Depending on the legendary, on fire walkers fire dmg increases the dmg, on Shard of Hate lightning dmg increases the proc, But on Fulminator and Thunderfury they are unaffected by it. So it's not very consistent att all.

Its 1.6 +20%. And if you have skill bonus it's 1.6M X 1.2(fire bonus) X 1.2(if you have 20% bonus to specific skill)

Well, even too much (at the point of 180k dps) should be better than trying to get strength to equal 200k dps added from another 20% fire skills. It would take quite a lot of strength if you already have almost perfected gear to get 200k dps.

imagine on top of your high dps +%elemental, +%skilldmg, +%elitedmg, +%dmg to demons it will cumulate and you will do sick dmg its hard to figure out what to get on your weapon though %dmg %elemental %elite and the helm %crit or %skilldmg

this is obvious because of imbalance between multiplicative variables. what i would like to see is a comparison (calculation) of the balance where you set up attack speed + critical damage + critical chance + elemental damage + elite damage + main stat. i would watch that video.

my wizard is at 1.8mil dps and just over 100% bonus fire damage and 36% bonus vs elites, so are saying that is to high and I wouldn't loose much if I drop to say 70% to 80% fire damage and stack something else instead.

Only that there are no items that force you to chose between elite and elemental damage, except for SoJ, but these have both stats on them anyways.

moldran ur calculations for elemental are wrong...elemental is multiplicative not additive..for example ur 1m dps but have 20% fire ammy, 20% fire brace,,,20% off hand...its 1m x 1.2 x 1.2 x 1.2 = 1.728 instead of 1600k

I dont think this is correct, It should be additive between items and then multiplicative with the damage. damage X (1+firedamage1+firedamage2) for example If it's not working like that right now it would be bugged.

It's additive... it's only multiplicative between different effects, like walentaz said above me. For example if you have fire and cluster %increase, they will multiply > 20% fire, 20% cluster dmg = 1.2*1.2= 1.44 Base dmg 100k 100k * 1.44 = 144k Only elemental damage > 20% + 20% fire = 1.4 100k * 1.4 = 140k
