One thing that I'm scared of, is Diablo 4 will take the same route as Diablo 3 did in terms of dropped items. I feel much more excited to find a unique in Diablo 2 after a day of playing, than I am to finding 100 legendaries in the span of 10 minutes in Diablo 3. Having something be 'legendary' should feel as though it is special to find, not have 20 of those items drop every second.

@Netherlag1 Жыл бұрын
There will be unique items in Diablo 4, which are one tier above Legendary items and much harder to find. So that could potentially make your concern a non-issue. However, it's true that unique items being scarce don't automatically make them exciting to find, unless their stats are actually unique and not just another level of linear scaling with some legendary power slapped on. Let's take Skin of the Vipermagi for example, which is literally unique in a sense that it's the only body armor in D2 that gives fcr, all res, and also a skill level.
@MixMeister5000 Жыл бұрын
@@bioboost12 It's not dumb at all... keeps the whole world relevant. I'd rather be able to kill mobs in all different acts with some sort of challenge than just blow them over with a fart. Almost no one goes back to NM mode in D2 to make themselves feel more " powerful . Also in D4 you get power creep when you find the right piece of gear or get a new skill or passive, also altars of Lilith etc. Level scaling is good and people don't even realize it lol

Here's a thought, if you've already cleared the dungeon and gotten the aspect, any future visits, the door should just be opened and a mob kill progress counter gets put in, once you've killed 90%, the boss room is opened. Removes the shitty door mechanics as you've already opened them in the past, and adds a very tolerable mob clear objective, which allows for a decent margin of missed enemies so no back tracking unless you're super careless.

The whole "endgame" concept is destroying gaming. I hate that devs AND players don't care about the actual GAME anymore. All anyone focuses on is rushing as fast as they can through a boring, uneventful 30 hour story and gameplay just to get to the end where the game "really starts" the game should start at minute 1! I have no reason to want to play any game that doesn't get good until hr 50 and even then it's still not even good because the gameplay loop wasn't made to be good, it was made just to farm, and there's more to gaming that farming. That's why D2 is so great, it balances every aspect of gaming into one

I feel like this is a cop out answer. The burden of balancing should be placed on the devs, not on the players. I do agree that accessible slots should be limited to some extent but 4 is a bit too restrictive considering the state of the current skill trees. There is some potential for combat rotation diversity but I feel like its presently underutilized. I think 8 would provide enough balance between freedom and limitation. If you only want to utilize 4 skills thats your choice and thats perfectly fine. Wouldn’t you agree that it would be interesting to see hybrid core or even skill builds? I mean I’d like lunge to close in then bash as a barb. Or whirlwind then ground pound. Some space for a mobility skill and another shout would be nice. I’m sure other classes would benefit as well. If I had that then I’d likely be missing out some effective passives, or maybe the hybrid build would be more effective as skill points are already limited. In the end, its open to interpretation and creativity which would play a factor in how fresh the game feels even in the long term.

Agree with all mrllama said. When you say you'll create a 'sequel' it's like a promise that you'll use the same ingredients as the first but improve it and add new things. Examples of these could be God of War, StarCraft, Patapon etc. In Diablo, the 2nd was built on the 1st, but unfortunately the 3rd was built from another game, and now the 4th was built on the 3rd. Simply put, Diablo 1&2 are a different game from 3&4. They're just using the IP to sell.

Even Skyrim, with its five Dwemer / Barrow / Fort / Cave / Ice Cave tile sets, managed to make each single dungeon feel unique. Same with Elden Ring, most of the time. Surely Blizzard could have done the same if they wanted a more slow-paced, "dungeon delving" experience. On the other hand, if the goal was to stay true to the fast paced Diablo formula, I think a big part of annoyance in D4 is the key / door / event gimmicks. Durance, Chaos Sanctuary, Countess, Nihlathak, they're great because they play to the central pillar of the game: figure out the path in a sprawling procedural map -> explode demons into chunky salsa along the way -> kill cool unique boss. No BS to slow you down. Keys and puzzles and events break that loop. They're a net negative on the core experience.

On the topic of itemization -- when I was playing around with my rogue I found a lot of passives for skills and within the tree that cared about making things vulnerable. Because of this I was actively seeking items that had boosts for vulnerable enemies. It is something small, but it did mean that I CARED about the stats on the items. On numbers occasions I passed on a "better" weapon for example because I had something that was weaker but had vulnerable bonuses which actually increased my damage potential.

Yeah this is good imo, but the trouble is it just won't matter if the scaling is what MrLlama noted from what he's heard from other testers. Honestly i think the most important thing about d2 was the itemization. Which is why d3 and d4 wont last as long as d2 has. Every item type that drops has uses or the chance of being a best in slot for a character. Whites and socketed gear can be your bases for your runewords. Whites can also be imbued via charsi quest (2/20 tiaras!). Blues can roll BIS for some characters with stats like +3 jav +20ias. Rares can roll with many mods and get some crazy boosts, 3 res boots, hit recovery etc. Sets when combined can offer really great boosts as well. Uniques are just that, unique, nothing else like them. Low level uniques can be BIS like magefists or goblin toes, mid and high lev uniques also, everyone wants a shako if they can find one. Than you add in the runes/gems/charms that you can also find along the way...every item has a reason to exist and be used rather than picking them up, never looking at them, salvage all, rinse and repeat. I truly believe that this system and how rare some of the items are, has been one of, if not the biggest reason d2 has been around as long as it has, enough people still play it, that they went through the nightmare of trying to remaster it and they nailed it

in CB I did around 90% of them and your concern about the dungeons is real. not only are they filled with extremely repetitive tasks. on top of hat the linear layout structure + the low monster density. And I clearly agree. After doing all these dungeons many times with many different classes I couldn't tell you which one was where. And I took screenshots of every single layout. I had to write notes on the screenshots to be able to remember their location and if they would be good or not. UI is horrible, not only the fonts. There are actually rly 4 different fonts. Inventor tabs (Character) Charname, Profile button, Item name. DMG DMG DMG DMG = millions of DMG ... as soon items start to have attack speed + skill cooldown reduction or recourse reduction the game starts to get interesting but weapons are super limited on every other skill than base and core skills all other skills have a really limited dmg improvement. Superbad is also that you are very limited on certain weapons for certain skills. Freedom of choice is almost not existent. The best items are unique class-specific items. By far. Rares are just better statsticks. You cant remove unique aspects so think about it ;D Difference to D3 gambling is that you are not hunting for the items you will behunting for the rare aspects with high rolls. and can then trade them which makes is a lot different. Vendors are rly selling very nice items. In CB i found crazy strong rolled juwelry. So checking in if you have weak slots its for sure worth. Espeicaly if you play HC you wanna be up to par with your character lvl.
@ParanoiaAndroid Жыл бұрын
I also did CB and from what i remember, all dungeons have those annoying, very high HP, tower-thing you have to destroy while monsters spawns constantly around it. and once destroyed, it spawns a rare boss. upon destroying 2-3 towers and killing it's bosses of the map. only then unlocks the boss room. I remember having a very long feedback in the feedback form about it being very annoying at dungeon repetition. i guess they kind of listen and changed it into just 'keys'. But its still feels the same annoying mechanic of slowing you down. correct me if i'm wrong. im just recollecting it from what i remember.

Honestly, I was never really excited about D4. I finally got hardcore into D2 after D2R was released. I've been playing the Diablo franchise ever since the very 1st game was released, and I still have A LOT of nostalgia for D1. For some reason I didn't play D2 until like 5 years after it was released, and even then I would start to play it and then quit after I got to Hell difficulty. I would always get frustrated with creatures that had certain immunities, such as physical attacks. After D2R was officially announced I finally started to get into D2, the way it's meant to be played; and D2R is pretty much everything I wanted it to be. I'm glad they are continuing to support the game with new content and updates. If I could have 1 video game wish granted it would be that Blizzard would do a Diablo 1 Resurrected, fixing bugs, adding new loot and integrating the majority of content that was created for the game but was removed before release to be held over for D2. Quests, NPC's and areas were developed, but ultimately left out. Yes, I am hyper aware of the Belzebub HD mod that does exactly everything I just mentioned. I'm also very aware of the other popular mods. I've never really been a mod guy. They're fun for a weekend, but ultimately they feel like fan fiction to me. I prefer official releases, and I would absolutely love an official HD remake of D1.

To me D2R is the D4 we needed. The Diablo franchised died after D2. D4 just solidified this notion. The folks making the games arent even the creators anymore so the true creativity isn’t really there. They got skills but not the right creativity. It’s like what happened to Lord of the rings with the Ring of Power. After Peter Jackson, any one trying to follow the footsteps will never be as good or as genuinely masterful as Peter. I want each dungeon to be random as well, so that if you run the Pindle dungeon, and then run it again later, it will have different mechanics/layout/monsters. Hell, have boss monsters have a group of random mechanics that they choose from, so they have different attacks to watch out for each time you run into them, to make fights different, especially when you are expected to run them over and over for the end game. If they have the overworld map as largley static, they need to lean into the randomness where they can. One of the main pillars that makes Diablo what it is, is randomness, and not having that makes it leas like Diablo, no matter what name they call the game.

@Omawolfram Жыл бұрын
It really baffles me, that after more than a decade of the long-lasting rogue-lite boom, they still refuse to implement more elaborated procedural systems into their game. The core gameplay loop of ARPGs consists of extremely repetitive tasks. Why the hell would the game designers neglect this important aspect. D2 had very rudimentary ProcGen Systems. D3 toned it down, but rogue-lites weren't popping off yet and the game had other deeply rooted issues. However, I have no excuse for D4. It's said that bad ProcGen makes everything feels the same, but the success of Rogue-Lites have proven that ProcGen can be fun & exciting, increase replayability or even tell a compelling story (e.g. Hades). I already gave up on Blizzard after D3 and decided for myself that they dont make games for me anymore, but it's still astonishing to see how little they understand about diablo.
@Thynqikan Жыл бұрын
boss monsters with random mechanics is the heart of Diablo2 with the unique packs you encounter. You do not know what abilities they have and it creates that "uncertainty" that is extremely appealing. It absolutely MUST be in Diablo 4 otherwise the game is dead on arrival.
@LordJaroh Жыл бұрын
@Thynqikan Not just the suffixes/affixes though. I would like to see actual attack patterns be from a randomized pool, so that you have to figure out how to fight the boss each time. This would add a very large element to boss encounters especially that seems to be missing.
@alisaforster28697 Жыл бұрын
@@LordJaroh now that would be innovative. Fighting a certain bossmob in one game would have them fight defensively, in another game offensively, in another game they try to flank you, etc. Hell, maybe even bossmobs that emulate real life pvp fighting patterns. But i dont see blizzard implementing something like that. Atm they tend to simplify eveything. Attack power instead physical damage, attack speed, attack rating, frame data, Fhr, etc. No stats (instead of balancing them out properly), etc..

One thing that kind of bothers me is the devs perspective on this game. They made Immortal for the common person, and now it seems like Diablo 4 is made that way as well. Blizzard developers are not Diablo developers. The team that was responsible for its genius was disbanded decades ago. Blizzard's corporate perspective on gaming doesn't include the original goal of giving their adult players content that invokes fear and nightmares. "Let's make something terrifying to sell" and "Let's make something to sell and make it terrifying" are not the same. They've never adhered to the philosophy that went into the creation of Diablo and they never will. Diablo III was blizzard's attempt to make a passable but "sell to everyone" marketable knock-off. This is just the next iteration of that knock-off.

Your comment about WOW is exactly how I felt. I just don't get what they were thinking. 1 was the beginning. And 3 was nowhere near as good as 2. But at least 3 still felt like a Diablo game. And for me, this was their chance to go back to basics and make it more like 2, but with the good points from 3. And they just went further away from the model that most of us love. So it seems like I'll be back on D2R instead. Though it still pisses me off some of the silly changes they did on that, such as making the Amazon really fucking old instead of a hot young blonde with tig bitties. But there you go.

I didn't like D4 either. I tried to like it, but the biggest thing for me was the itemization and the levels scale with you basically making you feel weak the entire time. I miss a unique dropping in tristram and making you feel significantly better, at least for a period of time. To be fair, it is hard to compare anything to Diablo 2 because that game was a masterpiece.

I agree with a lot of what you said here I started to feel like I was the only one who wasn't that impressed with the game. Few things that really annoyed me is that there was no overlay map! I don't like wasting time opening a big solid map that covers my entire screen to see what side room I missed. Also not having a stash in any of the small towns I visited. Almost as if they want to funnel everyone into a central hub main city for that "MMO" interaction/feeling instead of letting me dump my loot at the nearest village. I'll be trying the Necro though next beta just to check it out. Maybe if endgame/pvp is decent I might end up buying the game but for $70 I need more info and convincing so we'll see.

The designers of this game are zoomers that have no understanding nor respect for the D2 and classic game designs, they just want to do something their new way because it is "modern". There's hardly any reason behind a lot of the designs such as the map, the skill UI, and the way object interaction works. They just want it done in ways that modern casuals are familiar with so they can say this is a modern game, not because these are superior ways of doing things.

I support MrLlamaSC he played A TON of this type of content and who criticizes him for this low rating of this game I can just think they don't know what they are talking about. This game is just bad because simply who makes it does not know what are they doing they are paid to do it this game is not made of nerdiness this is a job what they have to do because they bosses give them this to do it and the creators are not the problem. These problems come from above the creators of the game and this is why further problems are with modern gaming come up all the time, and you lose interest and WANT a new game because they capital guys just want MORE dough and not making things, these capital guys DON'T make anything other than crunch for workers.

I love your take on the emote quests. They’re so cringe and don’t belong in a Diablo game. Look around the world, and they think something like that belongs in it? They must have very contrasting personalities working on different aspects of the game. Just like the UI. Wtf is that mobile looking crap
@Juggernaut76 Жыл бұрын
You mean the 30 second quest you are not forced to do that acts like a tutorial? It's a new feature that people are going to use to communicate in the open world or in parties. You know, you might want to emote a "Thanks" or something from time to time. Any complaints about this feature or the quest I cannot take seriously.

My most disappointing aspects of Diablo 4 , that it is a like MMO now... Events, only online thing, battlepass. For me Diablo always was single player experience. Diablo 2R looks way better for me.

escort tasks were the worst as they are extremely slow. Repetitive dungeons: I am hoping they have more variety designed for the full game and maybe this was just for the beta. I really like the ability to pull the aspect off of legendary items to add to rares, that is exciting towards itemization.

Tried the beta on PS4 and man... the things that bug me are things that are so easily fixed with some extra UI options. The option to resize/remove the minimap, the option to turn off ALL combat floating text, the option to hide quest and challenge popups... simple issues with simple fixes. As for the UI presentation... we can only hope it's a tacked on placeholder that'll get a makeover before release.

@Messiah Show That's gotta be a bug because it only shows up when you elect to not show damage numbers. Ended up switching back to the numbers cause it was less intrusive than all the immunes. I need like, 70% of this UI gone.

@@kevinoneil5120 Yeah maybe but I hope they fix it so all dmg and effect name disappear. I want it clean, I even hated the red outline so fixed that as well. My game ended up looking really clean and nice except the immune immune immune stuff and so on.

The inventory UI also has a weird priority. It's like the reverse of what I'm looking for. I'd argue that seeing your current resistances, dodge and critical hits is more important than seeing your current attributes and an abstract power value. Like who in the world cares that you have 38 Dexterity? Now what about 1% dodge chance going up to 2%? Relegate the attribute numbers etc. to the secondary screen and turn it on its head: when pointing on your _crit/dodge/etc chance_ on the main screen, then show how your gear reaches that number. "Aha, it went up because this and that" and then your vital survival stats is glanceable too.
@josephkim007 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you on the dungeon layouts. Also, the quests that require the emotes took me out of the immersion a lot it would be better without all of them. Thank you for your video. as a person who played the beta version, I could really resound with you on your opinions.

@@Excaliber158 no, not the tutorial quests :) there’s two I could think of (I think llama went over them) but I was stuck at a side quest where I had to say sorry at a shrine or something. Biggest gripe for me is you can't see the stats of gear on the ground, have to pick it up, find it through 30 items in your bag, look at the terrible UI just to find its not even worth the mob dropping in the first place
@Thynqikan Жыл бұрын
it is interesting that it bothers me as well. In D2 the size difference of the item and smaller inventory makes it very easy to find the items you have picked up but with D4 every item graphic is the same size so you are having to look at more.

@@nikmidclayton5933 everyone wants to see wat kind of animal D4 is. After trying for 2 beta weekends on PC & PS5 i gotta say - its looking pretty generic. Maybe PoE 2 will be more interesting with its skill revamp coming that Chris has been silent about for too long now... the arpg genre is in sore need of innovation and D4 is touting seeing ur character in cutscenes as some sort of selling point like it has never been seen before...
