Today I’ll bring up some topics as to why I feel that Blizzard and the Diablo team are doing anything they can to avoid referencing Diablo 1/2

Every diablo game has introduced new classes, except diablo 4. So the spiritborn is honoring the past when viewed with that context in mind. I've also been playing diablo since the first game and I'm happy to see new areas, classes, stories, and lore coming to the franchise.

It's a good thing they didn't immediately go with paladin. Every diablo title has added new classes. The biggest jump was from d1 to d2 with warrior, mage, rogue. To diablo 2s necros, druids, assassins, barbarians, paladins Amazon's and sorcs. ,And then in d3 we got a witch doctor, demon hunter, a monk, wizard, and a new spin on the paladin with the crusader. The rogue was brought back to cover a bunch of the Amazon and demonhunter playstyles so it would not make sense to bring either of those classes back into the game. Understanding that, its easy to assume the spirit born will cover the monk/Amazon combo but itll have the witch doctors visual ascetic. (Probably also some skills like spirit walk) I'm sure we will see a paladin or some version of that in the future but for now I hope we get a few new classes to enjoy and theory craft before the pally/sader is released.

You should see some of the reddit posts from the D1 to D2 jump lol, people were losing their minds. The truth is that as we grow old we don't adopt new trends, so we end up thinking "wow all this new stuff sucks, the old stuff was way better". It's the same function that makes us think people look old simply because of a fashion style.

It was driving me nuts. It’s Kurast not kurat.. And I’m pretty sure when they first announced the expansion they said it was Kurast. The people of the area now call it/know it as Nahantu. Since it is like how ever long after Diablo 3 I can see how it can change. It’s happened in the real world.

I wanted the Monk, possibly the Crusader. What I honestly expected was the Witch Doctor since they come from Nahantu. I did like the class. I think what would have been better is to have 2 classes. One from the region and another of some kind. I'll give them some rope since they have been doing good but I think part of the problem is the loss of devs who worked on previous Diablo games, this would have prevented some of the issues. They are trying, I can't get too mean about it since Season 4 is good, I hope the upward trend continues.

Those who originally developed Diablo 1 and 2 left Blizzard long ago when Blizzard was developing 3 and 4. Then the people who developed 3 and 4 are a group of self-righteous developers, 4 is even worse for DEI hiring. Most of the game industry is like this, you can see it by how western devs criticize Elden Ring in recent years. Either they don't care about games at all, or they think the industrial garbage they make is a masterpiece, but turn out they are just out of touch, and they don't care about their customers' opinions.

Definately agree with you on this. Ferguson should've been fired long a go. he fcked up the GoW franchise. now he is trying his utter best to do it to diablo too. it took him a YEAR to fix his stupid mistakes and make the game somewhat playable (the druid leveling is still utter trash) . no other job in the world will give you that long to fix mistakes that should've never happened in the first place. he should've been kicked out of making games a long time ago. and whoever appointed him and is keeping him employed.

I get huge red flags from this design choice. We'll see in a few days from the playtest if it's a fun class but the words they're saying don't match up with my reality. They aren't "honoring the past" by overlooking witch doctor to put in Spiritborn. They're riding this niche-line to introduce a Rainforest-style shaman character. They honor no past by taking this route. It's my view that we don't gain much from a Nature Demon Hunter Mobile Melee Spirit Caster.

I actually don't have a problem with the D4 devs wanting to add a new class, but I do feel that they absolutely missed their mark. If they wanted to make a new class then it should have been one of the core 5 and then brought in whichever class they didn't use as nostalgia bait for the expansion. Either Barbarian or Druid should have been left out for the Spiritwhatever, and then when announcing the expac could have gone "AND WERE BRINGING BACK THE BARBARIAN/DRUID!!!" and people would have lost their minds with glee, creating bigger buzz for people who hadn't played the other games. It's amazing that they can't even plan their own hype properly.

Every installment has had new classes, no reason why d4 shouldn’t. Kurast is in Nahantu, it doesn’t specify where in Nahantu we are going but there is no indication of a change in the canon. People like to complain because they didn’t get what they want, which is fine, but as a day1 d1 player also, I’m not really as cray about getting the paladin back. Mostly because the Zakarum order was obliterated anyway in d2, which is why we have crusaders in d3, so there’s no real reason why there would be any paladins in d4, ever. Either another crusader or some other board and shield, with some kind of nomadic back story as to why they exist with no order to follow in the first place.

The paladin have all been dead from ages when Mephisto destroyed the area and corrupted the High Council of the Paladins in D2. The Witch Doctor are gone they've been transformed into the Beast men's in D3. The Crusaders are still kinda around.

im fairly cretin that even before D4 released, they stated that the first classes that would come out after release would be all new class types..... before looking at old classes to return. didn't all the paladins get corrupted in d2 from mephisto?? im pretty sure we will be seeing Kurast in this expansion as nahantu is the same region. they stated at blizzcon i think that nahantu is the name locals call it but outsiders know it as the torajan jungles, the same area kurast is in

Well, year passed since launch and we don't have - class balance, build diversity, loot filter(who the hell wants to see yellow items after 40-50 level?), more stash tabs. I don't have any fait in this expansion, as in this game. Waiting for poe2 and LE's next cycle. I have more faith in GGG(he-he, Cringe Wilson) and EHG. Edit: forgot about official trade site/AH. I love diablo 2 so much, it was my childhood and teenage years. D3 was exciting at the time, and while a lot of the gameplay has become stale it at least felt fresh enough at the time. D4 is diablo in name only, if they just changed the camera angle people would recognize it as the destiny clone that it is.

huge diablo 2 fan. my answer is yes. i’ve played almost every version of diablo 2 including project diablo 2, median xl, and path of diablo. d2r is beautiful and if you can get it on sale it’s well worth the value. it made me feel as immersed as i did the first time i booted up vanilla diablo 2.

Your preface unveiling your bias is enlightening, I would say you are simply not the D4 audience anymore. Blizzard chose their demographic, and the original game shipped as a 50/50. Fergusen even stated this almost outright in a vlog. D4 getting a new class is not just a surprise, it should be expected. None of the classes we had were new to Diablo, and every other iteration had a new to diablo class either out the gate or in DLC or both. Did you get angry when only the sorc got pulled from D1 to D2? If anything, the argument with more evidence in its favor would be that adding a new class is respecting the Diablo legacy.

I totally agree! I loved diablo1&2, 3 was meh and 4 had my expectations up but after spending 3 seasons im completely out. It's just hijacking an awesome ip and trying to bank on giving us crumbs at a time. Fixing the game is not adding new features, they sold us an alpha for full price and before its finally actually working they drop another expansion? Good thing I tried poe (poe is better in everyway except for the story but at this point we're expected to buy a game and expansion when the main protagonist isn't in the game)

Not having a holy class is wrong. I would love to play a Paladin in D4. I'm sure they will sell us Diablo in another expansion lol. Along with some other prime evils, each sold separately. If it was up to me I'd put al the classes that has ever been in Diablo in D4. D4 could have been the best game ever, but you got poor leadership, lack of experience/talent, and greedy corporate deadlines. So we get to beta test the game until sometime down the road it will be what it always could have been if they took more development time and testing. And they've done milked us for hundreds of dollars. Rod gets promoted not because of the development of a great game, but because he showed corporate that you can generate large sums of money with little effort by giving us just enough to keep stringing us along before we all quit playing and Diablo is a ruined franchise. That's how a person like Rod keeps getting these gigs. He could care less about the Diablo name, what it means to people thats been playing since DI, or the players. Until gamers take a united stand, most game companies will use or continue this practice.

But they would make a stupid and costly business move to NOT include the paladin eventually to the game sooner rather than later. Cool class doing an aztec jaguar mystic warrior theme being in the jungle it's just the name spiritborn is dumb... Data leak shows bat swarm attacks, rainstorm attacks, turning into fog so make of that as you will...just seems like a stealthy melee/caster class that uses items like necro so 2 handers or 1 handers and shield/focus...a mix of monk/witch dr with more stealth but item utilization of a necro imo What I think is we are going to see some temporal stuff happening...meph is going to try and use temporal magic to go back to the beginning with diablo in tristram but this time it won't just be diablo it will be all 3 brothers...this way they can bring back cain, girswald, adria and all those iconic characters and refresh the whole story I don't think they know where to go with the story except back to the beginning and re doing it...when we have a return to tristram the paladin class will appear

The boons for Druid are so fucking boring and bland even after the rework fuck this number game bs here’s an idea the raven boon changes ur summon ravens to give you 20 ravens that can blind targets and they attack 100% faster when u pop the skill it swarms the target and gives u 40% move speed for 10 seconds the wolf gives u a choice of timber wolves winter wolves or a dire the snake gives ur poison creeper the ability to make poison patches on the ground like when u cast it and u got a giant cobra that can spit poison throw in bear for more dr and the bear can a dire bear or grizzly the dire bear has a aoe slam with stun and more for dps the grizzly has a roar that boost ur defenses for u and party and pulls agro idk man shit is so basic on d4 for 2024 it makes my balls itch

I am always wondering why did they title this game Diablo. I mean there are like so many moving parts in the story and 3 prime evils and 4 lesser evils but diablo is its title. It makes ppl wonder like what you said, where is diablo? but from what i understand, they plan to make this expansion thing yearly or something like that. Not sure if we be paying the USD90 every year but they plan to milk it that way. Good news is there will be alot of story/character expansions. Bad news is we need to pay? not sure about how it is going to work. But i bought the most exp expansion set and damn i love it ngl. Had trouble understanding the story of diablo series as i did not read the novels and missed diablo 1 but damn....the origins story with anu and all that....take my money!

lol what story was there in Diablo the game? Oh right, basically none. You skipped dialogue and went to kill butcher, then skipped more dialogue and suddenly you're fighting Diablo. Big woop. Lore-driven fans are always going to be disappointed. If you want lore, go read a book. Otherwise just accept the media as it is, a game first and foremost. Their concerns are on monetization, balancing (which they're doing a half-assed job at), and I guess content releases like expansions (more monetization). I think it's a good thing that they're ignoring the legacy, because they know the fans of Diablo will still play the game and they're trying to bring in new gamers with this jungle theme. I think the trailer was a success because its main purpose was to get those who finished the campaign to buy the expansion. It was also a failure as a trailer because the context of the trailer was difficult to understand to those who haven't played the game. Like Lilith vs Inarius was easy to understand, even to a newcomer.

(and yes, i am excited to return to area such as the docks of Kurast as well as the ruins of Travincal, on top of other areas of the jungle that were never reached in Diablo II.)

This coming from a guy that if they could take over the reigns at Blizzard, would do away with everything that makes Diablo IV one of the greatest RPG games I’ve ever played (and I’m 45, so I have played a hell of allot of RPG’s in my life) by taking away the open world! Making Diablo open world was single-handedly the greatest thing that has Ever happened to the Diablo series and took it from a meh title to the heights of unimaginable, revolutionary fantasticness!! And to Blizzard’s credit, they did open world better than almost any other game studio and are second only to Bethesda in that regard!
