To me it's ludicrous how good the D2 designs actually were. I really like the D4 one as well, but the D2 designs have such a simple and natural aesthetic with great attention for detail and lighting. They really nailed all the area designs in that game. While D4 also has good environment design, the choice of color and general lack of contrast makes all the areas much less distinguishable and unique.

I see what you’re saying - what an interesting observation you’ve made. I wonder if you were to adjust the contrast within your monitor to pick up more black it’d make a difference.

You can zoom out when YOU play the game as suppose to watching someone else who's playing zoomed in.

D2R looks a lot better than D4, especially zoomed in. A lot of the environments in D4 look amazing...But when you look closer, there's some low res textures thrown in, some AI looking generation in the dead bodies, etc. D2R is just a lot of really nice paint over D2's "frame."

For some reason I've never been able to get the rocks and boulders to look right on D4. Always look washed out and loq res and I'm on about max on a 3080 1440p

I think what we remember from D2 was the Kurast Docks being the massive main hub. In D4 Kurast docks are not the main hub of Torajan; it's just a small town/settlement. The Kurast Bazar with the massive temples and pyramids is going to be the central hub of the expansion. The docks is just an easter egg for the side quests.

I don't understand why they didn't stick to the original layout. They just took some iconic spots and added them in somewhat similar places in D4. Both maps have static layouts, so what's the issue? They did manage to stick to the original layout with D3's Hidden Camp... They also had very high quality assets from D2R to draw inspiration from, yet they remodel everything in a generic, uninteresting style. This is not fan service, this is a disgrace!

Easy reason would be they wanted to show progression in time it's been roughly 80 years since d2 + the events that occurred during reaper of souls. Means most of the docks could have been lost.... of course that would be my reasoning behind why some of it is lost but also expanded upon.

Because d2 was made 24 years ago when rpgs were made complete upon release for high sales and repeatability for single player. They needed the game to be whole and from there they add and adjusted the game overtime to he co-op. D4 is made in an era of self-service online games that they continually add pieces over time to keep retention rate high, in short, to make more money. It's just business. Back then it was business, but that was reliant on a game being good to make a profit.

Just think, if they hadn't cancelled the original D3 from the original team of wouldn't be the over monetized shell of a diablo game it is today. The fact they outsourced the D2 remaster shows they were never interested in learning how to make a good diablo game.

In the expansion we are getting the Mercenary hideout (Spoilers!), it was just removed from the Spiritborn showcase but wait and see. If you want mercenary tavern...wait until season 6.

Then, directly south of that was Troajan Jungles (where Kurast is).* *I guess the Diablo universe changes and new territories spring up. I was trying to figure it out in game running around the map... they didn't actually shift that much, a big portion of northern kehjistan and southern dry Stepps was actually dahlgur oasis. much of it dried up

as a OG Diablo player since year 1999 - current....... I MUST SAY that D4 visuals capture 100% the nostalgia and the "FEELING" that earlier Diablo games remenicet to most players NEVER TOUC D3..... D:Immortal is cool game, but D4 is gonna grow to be a D2 killer.. mark my word

PoE is a good game, but respeccing sucks, itemization and skill gems largely suck, your inventory is way too small, you have to buy stash tabs, it's so button-mashy I've killed a mouse scroll wheel playing (pro-tip: Don't assign a skill you actually use to the mouse wheel button) and your class advancement is gated behind a stupid trap dungeon. THe whole no GP/in game money, only a trade/barter economy sounds cool...But in practice is a PITA compared to how other top down ARPGs do it....Cosmetics are also terrible. Not just because you have to pay for them, but even those look silly with too much FX. PoE is also loaded with far too many seasonal artifacts and bloat at this point in its development history. If PoE 2 addresses all of this and more, it'll be some nice competition for D4.

PoE 2 has a chance to be real competition for D4. As for PoE 1, lets just say that game is too old, janky, and bloated to grab my attention. When PoE first came out it had half the content as D4. Eleven years later that game is too bloated. D4 is just three months away from its first expansion.

I love poe. Got three level 92+ characters, but I've also tried it out again just last month and it's network laggy. Was the same back when I last played it about 2 years ago. Hasn't changed since. Far worse than any lag from d4 has ever had for me. Idk, back then I simply ignored it, but nowadays I couldn't seriously play poe.
