The reason these games let you get "800%" value packs or beginner packs for cheap on your first purchase is because the first purchase is the hardest one to get a player to do. If they get you to spend once on their game, even one dollar then the chances of purchasing other things in their shop later is much greater. It really is a psychological tactic. Still, many games do this.

It's not a tangible item though. There are no manufacturing, shipping or labor costs involved in the creation and distribution of each pack, and the supply is literally infinite. So the contents of the pack is worth $0, and 800% of $0 is still $0. When you say they 'let' you get that pack, it kind of sounds like you still think they're giving you a good deal... almost as if they're taking a hit on that first one. You're right about the psychology though, and it's not just in games. It's pretty basic persuasion/salesmanship that can work even when that 'first step' doesn't involve any money changing hands.

With most games they you know, offer you an actual good deal. Diablo immortal? At its most basic level, the game is actually decent. Its simply the monetization that kills the game for PC/mainstream gamers. For a mobile-centric game, it is very polished compared to most of what are available on mobile. It will be successful in the mobile space, for sure imho.

They really should have monetized this like WoW. Nobody would lose their minds if they just offered up a 40-60 dollar price tag for the first tier of the battle pass system unlimited on your account and a sub option for the highest tier, offer cosmetics on the side, pets, some convenience items and you're good. They took it way too far and i hope there is blowback because i want to keep playing on PC, but i don't want to hit a paywall or support a game with such a disgusting monetization scheme in place.

For whatever reason there are cultists doing rituals in the middle of the paved road. You fight them, you fight zombies on the paved road, you fight skeletons on the paved road. You eventually reach the town, then you follow the paved road to the boss fight, then you go down the paved road to the dungeon. Then you walk down the hallway in the dungeon until you reach the end. That's it. They even have footprints on the ground to make sure you never stray off that paved road. If you do try to, you'll just find dead ends or invisible walls anyways."

I'm not going to pretend to know anything about Blizzards tactics or behind the scenes stuff, but I do have an opinion of this type of game. The developers have made a game that many enjoy, even the ones that try to act like they don't, and it's free. The way I see it is, you don't have to spend any money AT ALL if you don't want to, just grind. But why not buy some stuff from the store kind of as a thank you to the devs for making a game that you have fun playing and making it free, as in if no one buys anything from the in game store then how are the developers going to get paid for their work and how are they going to be able to afford to keep the servers live? I have bought plenty of stuff in f2p games such as Warframe, I've spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on Warframe because the game is awesome and I appreciate the work that the developers put into the game. I look at it as a thank you to the devs. Not everyone has to do it, but I feel if you are getting enjoyment out of it, why not?

Man, that's exactly my thinking when it comes to Free to Play games with ingame microtransactions. I didn't pay for the game, might aswell get a skin to just support and look cool while I play. I wish we could choose how much to pay for a game all the times. The true issue is the fact you can't get to the endgame without spending, paying to unlock dungeons, that's insane and ruins gameplay experience.
