First of all, thanks a lot for this amazing content. Secondly, I wish we had shops that have half of your skills here in New Zealand, I swear the majority of the workshops here only know how to load the parts canon and fire without any hesitation. I've been a technician for 10 years and only 2 years ago I started learning the way cars should be approached. I went around my area to 5 different auto electricians offering to work 2 days a week for free and no one got back to me. So I decided to recruit myself at the University of KZbin, channels like SMA, pine hollow, scanner Danner and recently you guys! I've still got a lot to learn, I might even travel overseas to get hands on experience from actual experienced technicians. I only recently started loving this industry and I think I'll enjoy it even more inthe future. Again thank you for sharing knowledge, it's something money can't buy!

If you think it's terrible in New Zealand, it's infinitely worse in developing countries (like Nigeria, where I am). I've learnt more from those channels you mentioned than I did during a partly abortive "training" I paid for; one in which I learned more from personal observation and research than by explanation(s) from someone else (due to the fact that they either don't know or won't tell; luckily, I have an engineering degree so I learnt more than they imagined I did). Next step for me is more hands-on experience. Good luck in your journey.

If mechanics had to personally pay for the parts which they put on a vehicle which did not resolve the problem, perhaps they would think twice before throwing stuff on the wall. Appreciate these kinds of videos and sharing the thought process for making a correct diagnosis.
@joshuagabbard2998
@joshuagabbard2998 10 ай бұрын
To that mentality, if customers wanted to pay for a fair diagnosis every time, rather the standard 1 hour then a solution must be provided there would be less throwing parts at it. This is a special case where the customer or another shop damaged a pin and is not typical for most cars. Usually most cars have common failure points and a experienced technician can come up with a most likely cause. If technicians had Crystal balls they definitely be wrenching!
@dc-wp8oc
@dc-wp8oc 10 ай бұрын
@@joshuagabbard2998 The typical BMW owner does not wrench on their cars so suspect the damage was caused by a well-paid BMW wrench turner. The shame of it is, that even with all the diagnostic tools available to mechanics today, few mechanics seem to be well versed in making the correct call in a timely manner. As to "wanted to pay for a fair diagnosis every time..." here are two comments. What is a "fair diagnosis"? First, a mechanic either makes a correct diagnosis or an incorrect diagnosis. It is black and white. Problem is resolved or it isn't. Second, the customer is charged regardless. Whether it took 10 minutes or X hours. Point is the vehicle owner always pays, for time and for parts even when those replaced parts were not providing the solution. The evidence for this last statement is seen in the trunk of this customer's car, at around 45 seconds into this valuable video. There may be some locations that will cut the customer a break on a very difficult outlier diagnosis and solution, but that is as rare as honest and competent repair technicians. Unfortunately, this applies to other trades as well, not just those in the automotive repair business.

It's pretty common for a lot of auto repair shops throw the parts cannon at a car and it still doesn't work and they charge you a bunch of money to not fix the problem. It's a professional auto repair that will take the time to actually do the tests. And fix it

Following the data and sticking to the fundamentals is key in diagnostics, IMO. Something that I also tend to do when I come across a vehicle such as this, I do a quick overview of what's been done already. I don't try to undermine anyone, but I will do a quick go over of any connections, splices, things of that nature. Great process and great video guys!

Just found your channel a couple days ago, this is the second video I was interested in, I LOVE IT, exactly what a car repair channel should look like, will keep an eye to see what other nice options you will be offering in the future videos and something that is not normal that you might have a little extra time to offer is, are there any recalls or TSBs for the particular repair that you are doing for us, thank for the scanner, scope, schematic, maybe at times you can show some Service Info, these are what I call the 4 S's and are the most important, I have a few more S's but don't expect to see them as much. You have a new sub'r to the channel, thanks for being very good at what you do, do you have any previous channels that we can go look at, cheers. ONE suggestion, could you put the vehicle info at the beginning of the title of the video as opposed to in the description, ie: BMW 328i 2007 2.8L etc, etc please?

BMW uses both Type A and Type B ISO relays. (The style that was used in this video) Type A has reversed 30 and 1 of the control terminals (85 or 86). I have not found another manufacture that has ever used the Type A relays. In my experience everyone else uses Type B and they are standardized. And to be clear, BMW uses both styles. A good example of this is the light green relay they used for their fuel pumps prior to the fuel pump modules. Some of the other colored relays BMW used were Type A also. When in doubt, always look up service info as Royalty Auto mentioned.

A source Voltage is the Potential Energy that pushes the current through a closed loop. You presentation is excellent. Why folks use the parts cannon beats me.
