I installed it in 1.5 hours in a long bed tacoma. I did have some experience because I had the AutoVox X1 for 2 years before I got this one. They are cheap but screens and cameras are relatively cheap in general these days..... I am ok with spending an hour or two to install a new ones every 2-3 years considering you also get feature upgrades. It's worth every penny having full unobstructed rear view on a truck with an otherwise useless back window.

Okay now this one looks better, i was considering the DL9 but didn’t like that it wasn’t wide enough, vertically and horizontally.. the mirror and the view…. But the only feature it’s missing for me is a in-cab camera.. that would be the ultimate rear view for me

I have the same one. I love most things about it. Works great in the dark(not common with others especially with the rear cameras) I can read plates of the car behind me in the dark its that clear. Theres only 2 things i dont like. 1 you cant take an existing saved video and move it to a locked/undeletable you can make a video locked if you hit the lock button while the video is being recorded if its a video already saved and you dont want it to loop over it youll have to pull the card and move it with a computer to the locked videos folder. 2. Much like every other dash cam ive ever bought the battery doesnt hold a charge. It was like that new. I have two of these and they are both that way. I recommended the camera to my brother and he has 3 in his vehicles and all his were the same. Its not a huge deal but its there so parked crash detection will record when someone hits your car while its off. And to be able to watch video playback while not getting power from the car(like if your pulled over and have to prove the cop wrong your not gonna be able to unless you have the cars power turned on). It also makes it so it doesnt keep accurate time/date settings so your time is off. My brother did pull all of his apart and replaced the battery in all his units. He said his are all keeping charge now. They are a two wire solder connection to replace. Other than those couple things out of the 15 plus different brands of rear view mirror with rear dash cams ive tried the akaso dl12 is still the best one ive had by far. And for the price and piece of mind its great. Mine has already saved my ass from a ticket when a cop was lying and a lady in a range rover backed into my truck in a parking lot and called the cops and told them it hit her car. She got a couple charges for false report and somethin else after i showed them the video. I was goin down the aisle and she backed out on her phone and didnt look in her mirror or turn her head or anything. I had stopped as a car ahead of me was pullin into a space and i had nowhere to go until they moved. Left a scratch on my truck bumper...her bumper cover was on the ground lol cheap ass plastic shit

@@Snorfl. the battery icon shows charging but the screen is never dim. But the icon would show charging anytime its receiving power from the outlet either way. Its not going to not be showing charging while plugged in unless your running it while the power port is off.

I installed mine for 30 mins only without any problems. As long as you know where you going to hide those wires your fine. Basically it's plug and play , and if ever you have a backup camera just install this inside as a rear recording camera that's what I did my VW Tiguan.

I have a little suggestion. Probably will drive you nuts until you do it. Get another cam system and install it above where you sleep. You can get instant recorded intel if disturbed. Letting you know just what to expect. You can get use bear spray or street sweeper.

Good review only problems are it boots up in duo mode all the time, have to swipe to show rearview only every time. No options to change to boot up rearview only, and the rear camera fogs up easily in cold and rainy weather.

This is a really good review. Question - the mirror on my car is about 10 1/4” wide. How wide is the front camera on this device? Can you turn off the gps? So it doesn’t record like mentioned below the speed? Also and can we turn off the sound from the dash mirror? Can you also erase from the unit or you need a cpu? also is this legal to have moving backup video in california? Update: I got it. If you don’t have the gps cable plugged into the system it doesn’t track gps but no speed displayed either. You can have the sound off from one of the settings. It erases from the unit. No need for cpu. Also you can turn off the little “ harp” boot up sound

Was very disappointed with this camera. Thought it would be an improvement over the DL9. This unit just couldn't handle night well enough. Plus, the cropping wasn't very great in my experience. Would up returning and getting the vantop 12 inch which is a much better performer especially with the camera. PRO TIP. If you ever upgrade your unit, all you have to do is exchange the display and swap the camera. These different companies/ units all have the same inputs for wires. Just FYI. I like Vantop over Akaso. It's cropped better.

The night vision on this is very poor. Everything else is superb you had me sold till I saw the night vision , you can get little cameras on the back like that one that can see like daylight in pitch black Ive seen one for $25 if I knew the connection was the same on that as this one your showing I would get both and join them, shame really , great video many thanks Ray K. Nice product video. I would be concerned about the longevity of the rubber straps. i didn't pick up on whether it's a capacitor or battery dashcam... How did it handle the California heat? And what's the fps of the video recording? That's a nice feature to be able to see the back if visibility is blocked and the image is a lot brighter than using the mirror. The only disadvantage in using the rear camera (when visibility is not blocked) is you lose the benefit of a 12 inch rearview in that you don't see through the back side windows in the mirror...

The front camera records in 2560X1440 at 25 fps. The rear camera records in 1920X1080 at 25 fps. It uses a rechargeable battery for the parking record mode. True about the LCD display not giving you the peripheral side view, but you can turn off the LCD if you want with a press of the bottom power switch.

If the mirror is shaking, then it's an issue with the mirror mount of your factory mirror. Some car's have more of an issue than others.
