I saw Sam as an allegory for redemption, but yet a penance that must be paid. A career path that both led to the loss of Sarah/Sara/Charlie ...and would also prevent finding new love with Sam. A true torment of Tantalus for Jack. Teal’c was on a similar path,… A noble warrior burdened with unsurmountable guilt,… dedicated towards punishing one’s self and attempting to make right his wrongs through continued self sacrifice and torment. All the while knowing that the debt can never be repaid. On a sidenote, I’ve spoken with hundreds of veterans. Civilians, like myself, seldom understand the dynamics of a military career. We say “Thank you for your service.” but don’t understand the true definition of that service. It’s a continuous, never ending sacrifice wherein a tenuous life and career can be found. A life where survival takes a backseat to duty. What we see from a distance appears to be a ship in orbit. But in reality it is a ship crashing to the surface at all times,… But the surface curves away before they can reach it. Forever on the brink of the ultimate sacrifice 24/7...365. Many episodes of Stargate SG-1 attempt to exemplify this reality. And I know many fans have come to respect that.

The casting directors didn’t get that memo, in S1 they cast someone to play Sara O’Neill who looks EXACTLY like Sam but a bit older, she looked nothing like that in the movie! Love Martin & Joe Mallozzi, our PTB shippers! ❤️

Makes sense there wasn't the connection in season 1 as they may be said to be "feeling out" their place and weren't so comfortable with the familiarity that continued proximity can confer over the passage of time.

I always kind of saw Jack/Sam as the "old married couple" type of thing. They DID have feelings for each other, but neither one really felt as if it was something that they had to show off like you would see with younger couples. Kind of that "so familiar with each other that affection isn't needed". Almost like a grandma/grandpa type of thing. Just been around each other for so long that "being physical" seems more "disturbing" than "reassuring". Sam/Daniel as brother-sister type of thing. Sam/Teal'c as an almost "proud father" sort of thing. Where Teal'c was the 'proud father' of Sam who achieved so much in her career that he got to be a part of and witness. But when it came to "actually being a couple"? Never really felt right that the team-members would go in that direction. Seemed kind of a "cheap thing to do" for the characters and actors. Especially when you take into account all the restrictions while within the military and the same unit. It just simply wouldn't work for the characters, actors OR the show over all.

The only characters that seemed like there was a possibility could be Daniel and Vala, but it's only touched on when Daniel says they can't have a relationship; "At best you're an unstable emotional wreck. And I'm not saying I'm much better....I never thought I' get over my wife, the idea of being hurt that way again. But never in a million years, in a million million years did I ever think that person would be you."

@@andrewmalinowski6673 - Well, they did have a serious relationship while trapped on the ship in the last episode, only to do the "time-reset trick" that wiped it out. So we did get to see it. But yeah, those 2 are the only ones that make sense in regard to 'romance'. But only in the "opposites attract" type of way that could be easily avoided by simply one of the two "moving on" from SGC for one reason or another. It was a good "flirty" back and forth that added a LOT of good humor to the shows and especially Daniel. But I got the feeling that after the events of Ark of Truth that they would naturally go their own ways, and when Daniel showed up for the 2-parter in SG-A, he seemed to be content without Vala around. So, while "possible", in the end I figured that they both just 'went their own ways' with no real hard feelings or resentment. Possibly "relief" as far as Daniel was concerned. LOL
